Ditto, I was back in the city where I was born during the recent summer.(A former Comely Bank boy) I love Auld Reekie and have done so for over 70 years. That said, the vast majority of mediocre retail outlets dotted along Princes Street struck me as being way out of place, ergo, a series of ugly scars on one of the most beautiful thoroughfares in all of Europe, plus the dubious demise of Jenners was hard to accept. My first ever job was in the gents' clothing department at the grand old store, way back in the mid-sixties. Nonetheless, it remains one of the most spectacular places to live-and to visit.
My friends, I am humbled by the response to this video! This was so unexpected haha. I posted it just thinking maybe a few people would appreciate the architecture, first impressions and walking tour but this... this is was wholly unexpected. Grateful you are enjoying the video, for all your kind comments and subscribing. I am filming every possible minute of our Scotland trip, and will continue uploading to this series. The next video should be up by tomorrow, maybe even tonight. God bless, thank you for welcoming me to your beautiful country.
Edinburgh is my home town, you guys did real well seeing so much. I went to school with Pakistani and Indian pals that have went on to achieve real success in various businesses, still get great curries in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scots people accept anybody, loads of different cultures and people find a home in Scotland, folks up here tend to be non judgmental. The great architecture historically comes from some of the cleverest people around at the time. For such a small country Scotland has played such a large part in innovation and technical knowledge world wide for centuries. Sorry, love my home town and Scotland😊 All the best folks with your travels!
Thanks Shane, I’m so proud and humbled when tourists are taken aback at my breathtaking city… thanks for taking the time to display the city and your reactions to the beauty is priceless… don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need some advice to get around … enjoy
The algorithm brought me here. I live 10 mile south of Edinburgh and spent many days and nights there. So nice to see and hear other people love our city. I used to play in a wedding function band and played at Carberry tower many times. So so so so glad you are enjoying yourself. I’ll keep watching.
I live in an old farming town north of Edinburgh and it’s steeped in history too. Old buildings and there is even pict stones. Edinburgh is very beautiful but it’s touristy…. You need to jump in a car and travel north to really get the feel for Scotland.
@@grahamelliott6041You are the one who decided that Lisabeth said 'just north' of Edinburgh. She didn't. So you really don't have to be pedantic over something that wasn't even said.
I find it funny/strange that, coming from Edinburgh as I do, this guy's raving about the beauty & history of Edinburgh (btw - pronounced Edin-burra - NOT 'boro' 😊) and he's standing right in front of my mate's house (btw2 - pronounced Hoose 😊😊) in the Royal Mile !. In the 60's/70's there wasnt the same n̈umber of tourists here as there is now, in fact, in those days the only times you were guaranfeed to meet Americans, Canadians, Japanese etc was at New Year - right where he's standing at the begining of this video. Just off to his right is the Tron church and up until the 90's, thats where the nativex gathered in ladge numbers to bring in the New Year - I LOVED going to those 'parties', they were just so much fun, in fact I remember having a lovely 'snog' (kissing & cuddling) in the early 80's with a Canadian girl - Oh Courtney, where are you now ?? 😊. My mum used to talk of going to the Tron for New Year when she was young and that if you didnt go there at 9:30-10pm you had zero chance of making it as the crowds then (late 40's/early 50's) reached right up the Bridges - that must've been a fantastic sight !. But anyway, I just thought I'd mention the funny/weird thing, having lived all my life here I suppose I'm just used to all our beautiful architecture and so I dont feel the same excitemenf as the visitors do - but I do like meeting the tourists when they're here, its always great to meet people from differenf countries and get their 'points of view' on sport, food, politics etc, it makes for interesting conversations !
we don't really welcome English people tbh, it's more that Scotland and England are just seen as part of one country but in different forms. I never felt 'welcome' in England, I just felt as if I'd always been there, but with a different accent. We watch almost all the same tv, have the same football format really , Wimbledon, Olympics, prime minister, armed forces. I just find the separation notional. I don't for a second underplay scottish identitiy, history and culture. It's just I guess..well as a Scot, my long times living in England were the best of my life. But I adore Glasgow completely, it feels very special for me. I get 'subscription' emails from english sites I subscribed to, I can't even look at them or open them, I miss the place so much. Most english people I know, especially Londoners, have WAY more in common with eg Glaswegians than Glaswegians do with scots from the East/North East of Scotland. The latter are a country to themselves, especially the north east.
Edinburgh is gorgeous. I like the “New Town” because it’s less touristy. If you appreciate unspoiled historic cities be sure to visit Oxford if you go south, another gem. Be careful with Indian food, don’t go to restaurants around the tourist hot spots they won’t be good and the prices will be too high for what you get. Do some research first.

Here's some more fun facts : Edinburgh is home to the largest festival in the world , The Fringe , more than 3 million tickets were sold a few years ago and it has inspired hundreds of other towns & cities around the globe to do the same. The city is the 2nd most visited location in the UK for foreign tourists and has more American residents than any other part of Britain except central London. There has been a continual US Consulate since 1798. Inventor of the phone , Alexander Graham Bell , was born here , as was James Clerk Maxwell who produced the first colour photo and pioneered electro magnetism which is crucial for all our electronic devices city authors include Robert Louis Stevenson ( Treasure Island , Jekyll & Hyde etc ) , Arthur Conan Doyle ( Sherlock Holmes) and Jo Rowling , who was influenced by the magical Old Town and has lived in the city for over 30 years writing most of the Harry Potter books in cafes and the last chapters in the hotel with the clock tower. There are 3 volcanic rocks in the centre over 340 million years old with amazing panoramic views and there has been fortifications on Castle Rock for over 3,000 years. There will always be a warm welcome for visitors to Scotland !.
You need to visit the Necropolis in Glasgow the views of the city alone make it worthwhile- so good to see your impressions of Scotland - but just drink the tap water it’s the best ❤

We are pushed out of our seats from an early age by our mothers to make way for the elderly, pregnant women, and mother's with small children, along with developing that annoying habit of saying please, thank you, excuse me, and sorry. 😂
I don’t like Edinburgh but this guy is good at what he does. I like Indian food too and believe it or not Glasgow is probably the best place in the world for Indian food… I believe chicken korma was invented in Glasgow.
Lovely video. Thanks for showing Edinburgh off. But watching Americans struggle with basic cutlery is very triggering for a Brit. Lol. why o why can't you they ever seem to use both knife and fork at the same time. And without swapping hands.
Edinburgh is a lot older than that. Historical records at least back to Brythonic times when it was known as Din Eidyn about 1500 years ago . Archaeological research much further still. David I of Scotland decided to create 'burghs' in the early 12th C but that new designation was conferred on already existing towns.

If you dropped Central Edinburgh into a US State, you'd have to be a multimillionaire to even afford a one bed studio.
Wait to you visit York with its wall and beautiful minster.
try a haggis pakora they are pretty good. which reminds me vegetarian haggis is pretty good too.
Bro fell in love with Scotland. 😊 Wait til he finds out about Irn Bru & Buckfast.
We are pushed out of our seats from an early age by our mothers to make way for the elderly, pregnant women, and mother's with small children, along with developing that annoying habit of saying please, thank you, excuse me, and sorry. 😂
No, I think they use a washing machine
You are very welcome 😊...Enjoy
Edinburgh is a great capital city but the rest of Scotland is worth a visit!
I don’t like Edinburgh but this guy is good at what he does. I like Indian food too and believe it or not Glasgow is probably the best place in the world for Indian food… I believe chicken korma was invented in Glasgow.
City of my birth. Best city in the world. Best people in the world. Proud to be from Auld Reekie.🏴 Great city to just walk around and discover.
Copenhagen, Salzburg, Vienna, Paris, Rome, Florence, Prague, Warsaw, Krakow, Venice, Porto, Tallin, Gothenburg, Bergen, Zaragoza, Budapest, Llubijana etc etc etc are all beautiful cities.
Haggis Bon bons are excellent too if you can find them on a menu anywhere 👍
When you talk of our city to your friends. Please try to say Edin-burra. Or try say just Embra. We will thank you very much in the long run!
Great choice. You can walk anywhere in Edinburgh. Avoid the festival in August and you will be fine.
Glasgow is actually the curry capital of the entire UK
My beautiful home city ❤
Welcome to Edinburgh.
Burra, not Boro. Great video, glad you came.
If you want pure, clean water in Scotland you can pretty much just turn on any tap.
If you like architecture you must visit roslin chapel on the outskirts of Edinburgh
Lovely video. Thanks for showing Edinburgh off. But watching Americans struggle with basic cutlery is very triggering for a Brit. Lol. why o why can't you they ever seem to use both knife and fork at the same time. And without swapping hands.
That's what I was thinking. Why did the lady pick the skin off the fish with her fingers when she had a knife at her disposal?
You should have went to the mosque, there is a mosque kitchen that serves up some amazing food 🥘
Edinburgh is 900 years old this year, hence the Edinburgh 900 signs everywhere
Edinburgh is a lot older than that. Historical records at least back to Brythonic times when it was known as Din Eidyn about 1500 years ago . Archaeological research much further still. David I of Scotland decided to create 'burghs' in the early 12th C but that new designation was conferred on already existing towns.
Yes I completely agree…… I was giving the cliff notes version for a broader audience
