Wow, sorry it was so difficult for you for a while. People can be really cruel, especially kids. Great video, thanks for sharing it with everyone. Hopefully it'll help people.
Great story man. Sorry you had a tough time in the beginning. I kept myself silent about who I was to my friends and family until I was 23. At that time though, I served in the Marines before DADT was repealed, which is why I never re-enlisted. Was tired of hiding who I was. Your story will help many others who are struggling with finding who they are. Thank you.
It’s up to parents to teach their children the spectrum between boys and girls at a young age. There is no need to make your children suffer. Every child has the right to be happy. We teach them about the birds and the bees but, nothing in between. This has to change.
Glad your story is part of our community. It's sometimes hard for kids to imagine those things can happen to them too. Kids think of themselves as being (intellectually) mature, but really theyre not emotionally mature. This is the main reason we tell kids to wait for sex & to come out. Your story is more important because your teaching them a serious life lesson. I know how much courage it takes to do this 1st hand, good for you HUGZ! THX for your service to ur community also! 1 LIFE
Wow. You've got a lot of courage. Hanging out in these tough, macho environments (football team, military) even after coming out, dealing with your dad, all that takes a lot of guts, and you've got them! It gets better, and it's getting better. And thank you for your service to our country! And for making this video!
Hey Cole, Thanks for sharing your story, I totally can relate to your journey, Myself I spent alot of time in school (everyday) not excepting who I was because, you hear so much bad negative in kids, people putting you down. When you hear enough bad, that you start to believe it. It's easier to believe the bad over the good. I was raised in Utah! Even though I couldn't change who I was, I tried to deny it and also tried suicide. I'm here and "It does get better!" Cole, THX for your service too.
Your so brave and such an inspiration to everyone....you should be very proud of yourself, n ur right "It does get better" Great video and thanks for ur service for this country
You are a courageous and beautiful young man. Congratulations for overcoming the homophobia from those closed minded Neanderthals that could not get passed their insecurities and narrow minded ways.
I really want to thank you for your story. I am 73 and came out in 1970. I also served in the USN. At that time being gay in the military was guaranteed to get a prison sentence if discovered. It is nice to know that the fight for equality is appreciated by people of a younger age.😅
Your such a strong person, I came out about a month ago, but it was controlled, and no nob heads found out, I wish itmwas the same for you!!!! Your an inspiration!!!
Cole, I just want to affirm everything you said. I've taught high school for several decades and know how vicious high school kids can be about anyone who is different. They do not understand how mean their behavior is. You should never feel bad about being gay. There is nothing wrong with it and what is wrong is the ignorance of the people who do not accept it. There is nothing sinful about being gay, it is as innocent as being straight is. Keep up the good work, Cole. You are a good guy!
You as a teacher should be shaping children and teaching them how to be better people so between the parents and teacher what your telling me is you're doing crap job at teaching diversity and acceptance. When i went through high school inbygr UK in the 1980s there was now major issue about sex ir sexuality we had out gay students and they where treated no different to ither students, one thing i do not us there was never a great need to be dating anyone at school and ot hardly went on in our year very few people dated. Your at school to learn abd develop to experience things long term relationship where not important. So bulling of students went one but by year 10 people where to busy with there education. To be worried about stupid group and who you hung around wuth maybe it was different in less academic schools but in our those who disrupted the education where removed, so we never had the gangs or fights. Because tge teacher kept control but they taught not to accept whst were where tokd by press media ir govt. To find out for ourselves. We where taught homosexual and heterosexual where equal that we where born with out sexuality and thst it was ok to love the same sex or opposite, that there was nothing wrong in exploring our sexuality. That we treat all people equally till they prove use wrong. Being gay was never an issue. So your statement saddens me. We had teacher who cared. You sound like a teacher who given up trying to shape children to make them more open questioning and understanding to remove that brutality from school where it should not be in the first place. Who runs the schools.
Thank you, Keith, for your comment. I have taught over 6000 students and counseled over another 2000 young people. I have taught in public inner city high schools and upscale private schools. I have never experienced the idealistic picture that you have painted. Instead, I have seen exactly what Cole has described. While Cole is now serving in the military in Italy, he is from the USA. You seem to be from a different time period and a different country. My reputation as a teacher was that I was the most difficult academician in each school where I served. My reputation as a counselor was that I was the one that students could most identify with because of my open-mindedness and ability to have empathy with them. Unfortunately in this age here in the USA, Cole's story is quite typical. I will say that since he made his video 7 years ago, the social situation is beginning to change in some large cities and the movement is towards greater acceptance and understanding. I attribute that to education. @@keithnewton8981
cole you have totally told the truth and I thank you for putting your story out there, im gay and the son of a military family and am planning on joining the Navy to serve my country as well. I hope there can be many more people like us that can help others come to grips with themselves and realize that it does get better over time. thank you buddy
just know you are loved and that people know what your going through and thanks for coming out for every person that comes out it makes it easier for otheres
Yeah, ive been there, i know how it feels. when my friends found out about me, they casted me away. only some of them stood up for me. It would be nice if you can make more videos about yourself and post them on youtube., it doesnt have to be your past. Im sure a lot of us wanna hear more about you.
That sounds like a very ruff situation but I think something some people need to hear. That it isnt always so easy for everyone. I think so awesome you were willing to share that you were able to share that to. If you ever want to talk some time id love too
Sorry you had to live that... I worked in an ARMY base for 8 years, I always hoped to meet other gay people, but it was always hard for them to be out in the ARMY, I miss my friends, but I dont miss working at the Exchange (i saw the bag)... thank you for sharing your story...
Thank you for your sharing. I hope it helps someone. It is amazing to see these videos. I hope you all appreciate that you have something that was not available when I was in my 20's. It would have changed my life. I accept how it is one cannot go back or change the past. But I rejoice at the courage of the many young men who do this so that others might have a better life. Ps, I'm glad you took that cap off to give us the chance to see how really handsome you are. Wish you all the best and that your life be filled with joy and love.
I'm glad you told your story I was also in the military after high school but I never came out in my school, My cousin who is in the same school you came out in junior high that's 8th and 9th grade high school is 10th 11th and 12th grade. I saw the kind of stuff that he went through I wanted no part of it. I dated men who were in their mid to late twenties nobody from school.love your story. Was totally awesome you got some nice brothers.
thanx you i am sorry for not being on my youtube i thought that this would be the only video i would post but i have decided to post more soon the word needs to get out there it gets better
Knowledge is power. If family, religion, or culture makes coming out difficult for someone, the following blog post about homosexuality may provide valuable help: “Homophobia: To the Community” homoeroticpoems.blogspot.com/2014/04/to-community.html
I am so happy that u r an openly gay soldier! I joined the army in 2007. I couldn't come out yet but now I love that everyone can come out and we can be a family doing it.
It amazes me how many people say they got "beat up" but I never hear anything about an ARREST. Do minors think they are exempt from getting help from the cops?! The reason these bully punks, aka LOSERS, get away with this is because their victims let them get away with it. I'm glad your brother beat up at least one of the 3 losers - but you could have had them expelled from the school and arrested.

I just want to say that I am very impressed with your Coming Out Story as it was brief and went straight to the point. I feel like I want to meet you in person.
Peace be upon you, as a fellow human beings I just want to say that:- If you got anybody in your life that ever speak to you ''how did it come to this'' in the wrong ways, you know what I mean. This is what you tell them, you just look at straight into their eyes and you says: 1. In a way, I pity the haters, bigots, religious hypocrites, whatever, because they must be incredibly disturbed within themselves to care so much about who loves who, and want to control that (which brings in arrogance). I laugh at those who hide behind 'religious belief,' especially when they deny it. I'd have more respect for those who just admit they're a bigot. Thanks to the religious bigots, and social media, our younger generations are rejecting religions exponentially. They realize you don't need religions' dogma to believe in whatever god you choose.
Please God save this innocent child from the path which leads to fires of hell and show him the true path .And save him from perverts below who are encourageing him by sending theses messages. Have mercy on these wretched souls.

Please God save this innocent child from the path which leads to fires of hell and show him the true path .And save him from perverts below who are encourageing him by sending theses messages. Have mercy on these wretched souls.
Go to hell yourself
