The release notes for their recent collaborative album, A.R.T, perhaps unfairly characterises Tobias Freund and Max Loderbauer's foray into dark ambient as "genre tourism." The heady experimentalism of concept-driven recorded work from the duo's inception in the early 2000s has seen them tackle reductionist technoid minimalism for Cadenza, craft an album of pieces composed solely with drum machines, and produce the longplayer NSI. Plays Non Standards which featured minimalist drones at the intersection of modern acoustic piano (played by Loderbauer) and electronic abstraction (as manipulated by Freund). Their acclaimed, yet infrequent, live sets have regularly skewed towards the organic and tonal qualities of the ambient aesthetic, functioning as a counterweight to the defined parameters of their celebrated output for Sähkö Recordings and Freund's own Non Standard Productions. The relative rarity of their live performances can be attributed to the sheer amount of analog gear required to realise the specificity of their sound design, as witnessed in this live capture: a fascinating mind trip through layers of deep submersion, simmering otherworldly eeriness and industrial pulses.

I still come to this set after all this years.
Masters at work. They aren't superstar festival DJs, but real experts whit knowledge how electronic signal can create a beautiful chaos! Lovely set. As Iam getting older more prefer this kind of sets.

It's very good but is it a track or a set ...i think this is more an 1 hour track, because if you look a the monitors it looks like, it is not recorded in one take , only the video make us belive that it is recorded live. A set as you call it, is for me the short form of "live set" and has to be recorded in one take, played live ....

Tobias Boiler Room solo set has influenced me strongly, his sustained focus and subtley developing sounds give me faith in electronic music. And today I found this excellent set, ta Boiler Room.

I needed to focus and work to meet a deadline and i finished in half the planned time because i kinda went into a working trip thanks to these guys.
excellent session of some very rich textures, skilled craftsmen at work!
A great sound and skilled performance. That is a really astonishing array of gear they have there but they actually make something that is complex, evolving, repetitive, dense, technical and trans-ambient all at once!

wondering what they're using to keep all of the sequencers synched regardless the delay occurring when midi messages are transmitted to the daisy chain . some sorts of midi clock or midi interfaces ? anyway these guys worked very hard for everything you see in the video

I love this. I don't generally like slow ambient music, but this is very nice. It's got a sort of Morton Subotnick feel to it. It keeps changing and evolving, without ever getting stuck in a boring rut like most ambient music. Excellent work here. Love the modular gear.

Abstract art a menudo no es claro, claridad lo limitaria a una sola imagen, al ser abstracto lo abre a multiples percepciones y multiples interpretaciones las cuales pueden a su vez pueden ser abstractas.
En música electrónica algo como "concepto" no se hace tan imperante aunque pueda tener gran relevancia aveces; disfrutar de las ondas y sonidos es el verdadero "sentido".
