  • “When I think about my father’s service then and mine now, it feels like a full circle moment and I’m truly amazed at how far we’ve come.”
From being sent to a relocation camp in 1942 to being commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, former Army Capt. Sidney Sato’s journey is one to be shared. Listen as Marine Band violinist, Master Sgt. Erika Sato, details her father’s story.
Throughout the month of May, the Marine Corps celebrates and recognizes the contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islanders who have honorably served.

Master Sergeant, thank you for your service. Even as a natural-bin citizen, I am humbled and honored by your family's hard work and perseverance in the face of some of the worst attitudes of the time.
I also thank you for your dad's service. You all deserve honors and medals for what you have done against all odds, for this country when this country treated you so badly. You were instrumental 😉 in bringing this country into a more accepting society. Thank you for that as well.
I am grateful for you and your family!

Wow, what a life you and your family have lived... how terrible this country was to a whole group of people... embarrassing times. Your father seems like he was an amazing, strong man. Thanks for your service and congratulations on all of your success
