  • The Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ, also known as "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas), is a significant religious and archaeological site located on the eastern bank of the Jordan River. It is believed to be the place where Jesus of Nazareth was baptised by John the Baptist. The site is recognised by various Christian denominations and has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. The area consists of two main archaeological sites: Tell Al-Kharrar, also known as Elijah's Hill, and the area of the churches of Saint John the Baptist near the river. Visitors can explore Roman and Byzantine remains, including churches, chapels, a monastery, caves used by hermits, and baptismal pools, all of which testify to the site's long-standing religious significance. The site is also associated with the life and ascension of the prophet Elijah & it was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It's a place that offers a unique opportunity to connect with a pivotal location in Christian history and tradition.
