I heard a story about this place: When the land was donated and Elder Ephrem first arrived, there was no water. He told those with him to leave him there for 3 days, then come back. They did. He then instructed them to dig a well at a place he showed them. They dug almost as far as the machine could go. They said to the Holy Elder, "Geronda (Greek for Elder), it is a desert, we will not find any water." But the Holy Elder just told them to have faith and continue digging. At the very end of the machine's reach, they burst into an underground river! This is why, in the middle of the Sonoran desert, this Oasis-both of the body and of the soul-exists. Elder Ephrem will be canonized as a Saint very soon and founded almost 20 other Monasteries in North America. May his Memory be Eternal. Holy Saint Ephrem, pray to God for us sinners! It is a pinnacle moment of my life to receive his blessing in 2014. I hope to get back to St. Anthony's this winter, possibly for Geronda's glorification.
Thank you for the video, it brings back wonderful memories from my visit there. It is a beautiful and spiritual place. I was blessed to have met Geronda Ephrem.
It has been said that monastics and their prayers and contemplation keeps the world in balance and I believe that is the case. Long may this beautiful tradition continue and flourish.
When entering on the main road, the smaller church building is on the right. It’s a short distance from the main entrance to the complex. It’s a beautiful structure.
No thank you. I agree with a priest I know. So much money being put into American monasteries. They live like kings and queens compared to the homeless that we are to take care of. Also, not everything Fr. Ephraim did was right in guiding some he was a spiritual father too.
This is exactly what Judas said “why don’t we sell that perfume and give the money to the poor” this beautifully place has been built with the hands of many monks and hard working man. In this country every person has the freedom to do whatever they want. People on the streets uses our tax money; these monks uses people’s charities. God is found in: beauty, goodness and truth. This place has all three. Blessings brother
@@OrganistDomini Very succinctly said. I had thought the same about he and Judas. It is only right to praise God in all glory possible. May God bless you. From a Roman Catholic who has much love and respect for the Greek Orthodox Church. ☦️
Gee, I thought "the poor you will always have with you," and it is good to pour the richest ointment out upon the Lord. hmmm. In the USA, the only "poor"are those who choose drugs/mental illness over shelter and order. There is shelter and food for everyone, but you have to volunteer the most minimal kind of submission: not doing drugs/booze, taking mental illness meds if prescribed, going into job training if able, etc. Those who won't or can't are the "homeless."
One of my ex’s is an ex monk from this monastery. 😬💯 he always told me how much he hated Arizona… but the more he talked about how he hated it the more it sounded like a place I would like. So I moved to Arizona for a couple years. ❤️💯🤌🏻
Glory to God. What a fitting tribute to the Lord.

Such a beautiful oasis. Don't go in the summer - too hot. But in the fall it's magnificent. Just be sure to dress appropriately!
God Bless all Catholics wherever you are! Thanks for your hard work presenting the holy places to the world to share the good news!!

Το άγονο της ερήμου η Ορθοδοξία το μετατρέπει σε επίγειο Παράδεισο. Άγιε γέροντα του Θεού Εφραίμ πρέσβευε υπέρ ημών.

Yes, women must cover their heads. There is a strict dress standard. At the entrance there are clothing materials for visitors to be able to use.

Do women have to cover their heads to visit?
Yes
Is this still an active religious house? I didn't see any monks or nuns.
This has probably cost million and millions to construct.
Video is not the same place as intro picture.
That's a church on the Monastery grounds but a bit farther away from what's shown in the video.

Do little children enter here? Matthew 19:13-14KJV
Why it looks like Muslims going to a picnic?
Good question.
It is considered respectful for women to cover their hair/heads inside the church.
