I just recently discovered you channel, and I have to say it's really great. Almost instantly subscribed and have watched just about your entire back catalog in about a day or two. Great presentation, really useful information, and great tone to your work. Also, it's always nice to see another S1H user.
Thanks so much Stephen! It makes me very happy to hear you made a trip through the back catalogue. A lot of those first few were for an audience of 0, so pleased a few have finally started to see them!
same here haha although I'm an s5ii user not an S1H user. Amazing stuff! Was expecting to see at-least 1 million subscribers though the content is amazing!!!!!! Will have to share with everyone I know
Great work Scott! Looked amazing it is worth the extra effort. We shot a documentary called 73 cows, no budget passion project and went on to win a BAFTA for Best British Short film in 2019, These projects always go further in the long run. Ad looked great and your attention to detail is what made it, thinking like a DOP, Director, Producer and Art director is really difficult! Congrats!!!!
I just discovered you with this video. I just wanted to say that I loved you self initiated passion project commercial. I myself decided a year ago to self initiate passion projects as well. So I tackled music videos, because I can be fully creative here than somewhere else. I took songs that already existed but don't have a music video and decided to make a music video myself. It is way better to progress faster than just shooting plenty of little things. It is just effective because with projects like these (doable and not too expensive) we can learn about many things like true planing of a shoot, costs and pricing, production, art direction and above all directing. Loved your video and your input. I am still at the beginning and I did start just last year and have shot only 4 music videos since. Still no paid work, but keeping busy and creative keeps me going.
It’s almost funny how few views and comments this video got and I how creative, talented and funny you’re! Next time I’m here this will be half million channel, and if missed and come back after an year will be million! Of course I subscribe before I wrote this pice
As someone who's only done passion projects I'm happy to hear that I might expect more decisiveness and effectiveness from myseld if (when) I ever get clients. ;) Great work!
Great result, great inspiration and only slightly intimidating 🙂 Brilliant to see the entire workflow or close to the entire workflow and process. Thumbs up.
Brilliant video as always (including the spec ad itself!) Totally agree and feel the same way when working on your own projects, things move slower and the constant second guessing because you just want to create the piece that you always knew you could without a gaggle of clients fucking everything up. Currently working on my own spec ad and can't even decide on music.
Fantastic video as always! I really appreciate these in-depth videos of real (or spec) projects and your honesty about the workflow. Keep up the good work👌
I discovered you through Instagram and I must say that even here on UA-cam the quality is really high. I really appreciate your honesty and clarity in dissolving all our doubts on the functioning of large-scale production, but if I can ask you a kindness, I would perhaps also ask you for the figures in euros, thanks😅
Sorry Michael… there’s only so many hours I can give to this passion project in my life and another currency is a step too far, but Euros are normally pretty close to pounds! Just add like 15% ish on and you’ve got an idea :)
Pausing this video to highlight that on the drop of a dime you painted your f*cking walls to accommodate your vision. Sir, you are a baddy. Gettin’ after it. All do no think. This is my VIBE, MY GUY
Great video man! Really love the in-depth you went into creating your own spec ad, this is something I want to do more of next year. Do you do any short films? Or do you find spec ads are a better investment of your spare time?
Thanks mate. I haven’t directed any what I would call “proper” short films myself, mostly because I don’t have the confidence in my script writing yet, but I have been working on my writing over the last year or so, hoping to do a bit more narrative work again at some point in my career and I think a few shorts might be the starting point to that.
Congestion charges must be the same as HOV lanes here in the States. $100 violation during rush hours. Not in effect on the weekends here as of yet but I wouldn't be surprised if they do this in the near future.
Not so much that I switched to RED... I can just afford RED and it made sense with the amount of food work I've been getting with the high speed frame rates it offers. It cost me in the region of £30K to buy everything I needed, where as to do the same for the Alexa 35 say would be upwards of £100K, it's near enough £20K just for 4 Codex magazines! Insane prices that I would never see a return on because I just don't shoot often enough on those level jobs. But I still love Arri, will just only be renting for the right jobs and budgets in the future.
Very helpfull video, I just graduated and already am starting passion projects to create some portfolio work. Can I ask what dolly you are using? Might be a good investment for me since it gives such a high-budget look instantly when used right.
Great video, but I’m at 4mins and still don’t know what “THIS” should I do, to “progress faster as a filmmaker”. Right now title feels like a clickbait.
I did not quite understand something though: You made a vacation video with your girlfriend and through that video you got a 6 figure paid job as a director? How the fuck is this possible? Could you please explain? I am curious and also happy for you.
The production quality of these videos are amazing
Glad you like them!

Insightful and fun videos Scott!!
Having this pop up in my feed on the eve of shooting some spec work really gives me some extra motivation!

Good luck with it Stephane, keep going!
This was amazing, loved this!
Great video dude! Spec work is so beneficial and I’m happy to see more people on UA-cam talking about it
Really love the talking head set up mate. No joke when I saw your ad I thought youtube had put it there :)
Thanks Daniel - glad to hear it mate :)
Both videos are great! This whole project was a lot of work and I'm happy to have stumbled upon you. I'm sure this will get you more work!

6:11 O boy 🫣 I woulda put a bag over that camera
Hindsight's a wonderful thing!
This was amazing
Thanks mate - glad you enjoyed it
Another great video. Did you get a V-raptor?
I did 👀 😁
Great video. Love the spec ad. Can you please tell me the Camera you used for the spec ad ? Thanks.
Thanks Ram - I used a RED V-RAPTOR :)
Now we're cooking
Did you make the video on camera rigging? thanks
I did: ua-cam.com/video/NmM69gwYfwE/v-deo.html
My guy painted his walls for a spec shoot!! Going above and beyond I see
It was worth it, had a bunch of food work I wouldn’t have got without this spec spot this year :)
You switched to RED?? What made you ditch Arri? Awesome video, thanks for sharing

I'm looking for a simple dolly system like you used. Can you provide me with a product link?
Whats the name of the story board website/software you used in order to plan this video shoot?
I tried the free trial of Milanote for this. First time using it.
@@ScottPetersFilms thanks
I'm currently battling a £240 congestion charge fine. You got off light.
Brutal!
Great video! But no one has a kitchen like this ever :D btw DTF
Am I tripping, or do you put some sort of halo effect on the segway-white-on-black text? I've been rubbing my eyes for ages.
You may well have been tripping, but I also put an increasing fast blur on a layer of the chapter titles yeah :)
@@ScottPetersFilms thanks for the clarification:)
The finger thing again 😂😂😂
DTF 🤣🤣

He's saying you have to make spec work.
fuck me dude what an amazing video
I did not quite understand something though: You made a vacation video with your girlfriend and through that video you got a 6 figure paid job as a director? How the fuck is this possible? Could you please explain? I am curious and also happy for you.
I did, I broke down that particular job here: ua-cam.com/video/ZlFDe2v2ivg/v-deo.html
@@ScottPetersFilms thanks a lot.
