I was surprised how much I liked Princess Tutu after I watched it. It was a great fairy tail anime with interesting and well developed characters. Plot thickens gradually and leave's you wanting to know more. It's one those anime that seems on the surface to be very basic, but as the plot progresses, you realize that there's more than meets the eye. Though, it felt like the plot was dragging on sometimes, characters seemed to reiterate and recycle the same thoughts little too much and comedy was repetitive. But despite all that, it was a wonderful experience, definitely rewatch it in the near future.
Another thing I'll add regarding the ballet scenes is that the animators put an incredible amount of work into the accuracy of the actual movements as well. All the mime motions are based on the real dance "languages" and have real meanings (like that little hand motion Princess Tutu does over her head when inviting other characters to dance: it literally means "dance with me"). The positions of the feet and limbs are incredibly accurate captures of actual ballet positions and movements, which is a lot harder than you might think to capture correctly in an animated medium. I was in awe! (The manga, in contrast, was drawn by someone who clearly didn't know much about ballet. One panel has multiple people fawning over the "perfection" of Rue's arabesque, but if any advanced dancer ever had an arabesque like that, she'd be demoted down to a beginner class without a second thought.)
The manga adaptation seemed to have been a very disorganized rush job so I wouldn't be too hard on the mangaka. Even though I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I think it's endearing that it exists as an odd alternative take on the story.
Haha, I finished my rewatch of Princess Tutu a few days ago and it was just wonderful, now the anime is a 9/10 for me. I love the dark atmosphere it fits absolutely perfect to the wonderful classic music and the presentation of the anime. But the best aspect of the anime are the characters, they are absolutely great. For example the characterization of the Rue and Ahiuo or the character development of Fakir. The only problem which I had were some of the comedy moments. Yeah, I know they made a good contrast to the the dark atmosphere, but sometimes it was a bit annoying. But of course it's still an awesome anime. So, great review dude :^)
Princess Tutu has such a wonderfull atmosphere. I want more mahou shojo shows like that.(I know it's not really a mh show). But I want something more experimental from mahou shojo. 10 years ago it was all about fighting magic magical girls and now it's: as dark as possible mahou shojo with a cute artstyle so that it seems like it's lightheatted bur actually it isn't. but no ones gonna notice anyway it has just been done like 7 times in 3-4 years?
Sry for the rant.😅 I really like your review please continue. (I subscribed). I still haven't watched your other videos but I'm going to soon. Sry for my english I'm from switzerland😊
Haha, it's alright, I agree with you actually, I'd like to see magical girl shows go for more interesting ideas rather than just being a "dark take on the genre" which seems to be a problem with a lot of things these days to be honest... ^^ I'm glad you enjoyed my review, terribly sorry but it may be some time before I make another video, things have occurred in my life recently that has made it difficult but I hope to get back into it as soon as I can!
Just make another video when you feel lile it. I'm not unsubscribing because of that😂. Yeah every game/anime tries to be as dark as possible. I'm so glad that nintendo doesn't do that. #loyalnintendofan
Thank you for sticking around! I'd be fine with darker stories if a majority of them weren't using the darkness as their only selling point... and yeah, I love Nintendo too. ^^
I have to disagree with you on the translation of the name. Usually, translating names is pointless, but in this case, from I gather, Ahiru is not a regular name in Japanese. It's just the name of the animal. If you don't translate it, you lose these connotations. You'll be tricked into believing it's a name, and not just a type of animal. This also ties into the plot and themes of the show. It needs to seem a bit unnatural, because that's the point. And the setting is German, so it's not like it's her original name either. Even in the original, it's translated into Japanese for Japanese viewers to get it. In the actual story as it actually was made, her name is probably the German word for duck.
I really loved the show. I actually liked the comedy bits. I had to watch the dub because Hulu doesn't have the Japanese, but I liked it anyway. I loved all the emotion and the subtlety put into it.
It was my very first anime honestly?? Im really happy it was. It had such a good plot and emotionally driven music and design that it was my main gateway into music and other arts! Its a very beloved and nostalgic anime for me and, I really wish that more people would give it a chance rather than pass it off because it seems like a stupid stereotypical anime, in some ways it is but in so many ways it isnt. Im happy you made this review! More people realllly need to learn about this anime.
Great review. I agree with pretty much everything. I watched Princess Tutu over the winter break and I was very impressed with it. It's one of my personal favorites in anime. Although, I thought the comedy was pretty meh.
Oh wow I didn't know you started reviewing anime Keten. I really enjoyed this review. I just finished Princess Tutu recently and, minus some of the repetitive comedic relief, I fell in love with this show. The way the story and characters unfolded from where the show began blew me away and the presentation complemented the show so well.
Would have been better if they kept the Fakir x duck arc like they originally planned ( its shows in the promo ) instead the boy never confessed his feelings 😭💔
are you planning on doing a review of welcome to the NHK? i think it would fit well to this channel :) (also one of my favourite shows so not biased at all lölz)
I own this series it was actually my first anime I ever watched would you mean to it was the ballet because I was in ballet at the time and my gosh it was amazing I loved it and I'm also really big fan of duck and fakir I really ship them together even though I know they'll probably never end up together again but I really love this series overall if we do get a reboot I do hope it is a bit longer but I hope that they don't redo everything because everything about this show is amazing and I hope they stick to the original if we ever do get a reboot 🤗💞 this show will always have a special place in my heart
It's a busy and somewhat unfortunate city. When not trapped in a story by a dead author it's being attacked by giant cannibals. It may have also been the setting for Little Snow Fairy Sugar.
I loved princess tutu, mainly since I feel nostalgic when I watch it. Its cute and tfun and sad. And no other anime has made me ball my eyes out in an ending as much as this anime has
Satisfying ending?! Ahiru turned back to a duck my ship Ahiru x Fakir died when she turned back to a duck forever (sorry for the spoiler) I was angry hurt sad depressed and worst of all my ship dies 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I want a season two now now now ! I want it no , I need it!
Sean Marshall they stay together In the end, and they hint at fakir writing a story to find a way to turn Ahiru back. The author also hinted at this in an interview.

I am obsessed with this show!! It's one of my all time favorite animes of all time!!

Yeah, I can see why the comedy bits would bug you. I'm glad you loved it overall though, it's one of my favorite anime, actually.

The "raven's blood" thing was kinda edgy though.
Very nice review.
LoL even here i'm finding you

Woah, one of my favorite shows, sad than it's very underrated... Each character is lovable, my favorites are Ahiru and Rue. Good work!
It's one of my favorites as well and yeah, Ahiru and Rue were my favorites too. ^^
I LOVED THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THROWBACK
Great review. I agree with pretty much everything. I watched Princess Tutu over the winter break and I was very impressed with it. It's one of my personal favorites in anime. Although, I thought the comedy was pretty meh.
Great video. The show is very dear to me so I appreciate your thoughts on it.
Great video, dude! I approve of the Mother 3 music, heh.
I hope you'll make more videos some day. I subscribed!

i think it would fit well to this channel :)

I'll probably review Welcome to the NHK at some point. I'm not as big a fan of it as others but I do like it and even kinda respect it.
ill be looking forward to it :) but i must say that all your reviews have been very high quality so far 👌
Great review. I'd love to see your thoughts on Haibane Renmei sometime. Keep up the great work!

Nice review dude. I have to watch princess tutu...
I absolutely love this anime and I know it’s not because of nostalgia like some others
It's a busy and somewhat unfortunate city. When not trapped in a story by a dead author it's being attacked by giant cannibals.
It may have also been the setting for Little Snow Fairy Sugar.
I didn't realise you were reviewing, but good work.

The ending really is emotional and lovely. I'm glad you really love it! ^^
I love this show to this day even though my family thinks is very boring
