back in the 90s games like wing commander, freespace, x-wing vs tie-fighter were called space-sims. u are sitting in the cockpit of a ship and maybe using a flight-stick, then it is a space-sim.
This will be a GREAT game when it is finished; has excellent potential. We will need capital ships and the ability to fly any ship that is owned by the player. That is the modern standard.
@@SpriGgEx Ish. Nebulous likes to make that claim too, but no game engine can really emulate "real orbital velocities" the way the show did, right? At least not in any way that would be playable and fun.
@@FunkThompson Thats true but i was more thinking of ship design of the bigger ships and how weapons work and are used. it reminded somewhat of the space fights from Expanse.
I personally really dont like this update after playing for a few hours. I had way more fun with the older update where I could pick multiple missions at the same time and wasn't forced to pick one of 3 missions and jump out after completing it and reloading again. I really feel like the update went way farther backwards than forwards.
@@LTGamingUA-cam what did you not like about the sector system before? I thought it was a little slow but could be compensated by controlling multiple fleets in different areas doing different missions. Never felt like I had a dull moment.
@@tomsawyerisme I felt like it was easily exploited in system. But the more open world nature of it was novel. I just think it was a bit directionless at the time.

What the hell is going on with "space sims" with all the tan/yellowish/reddish space? The only good space sim that come out this century is elite dangerous and frontier killed it with grind. I miss the heyday of the genre.

it also have some similarities in how space combat feels like shown in The Expanse

Looks pretty good tbh, but my question is why would I get this instead of X4?
It has that Strategy layer also! X4 is an excellent and deep game. This is a little more focused and the combat is a lot of fun.

We are Somerset side of things but both moved around a lot so it has just stuck with us. - Tom

It requires some tweaking but I think the addition of larger ships is moving in the right direction. The sector system just didn't work before.
