    A lot of us have an unhealthy attachment to paper. It seems so harmless when it's a single piece of paper, but becomes an avalanche when it accumulates into ream after ream. Good job in confronting it every time. It will get easier with repetition.

    • @CB-jh1pt
      @CB-jh1pt 2 роки тому +2

      Any tips on how to deal with the historic piles once you have them already would be so so hugely appreciated!
      E.g. anything I had for uni I have kept. From almost illegible notes, to coursework, to drafts, to todo lists and diaries. I was ill for most of it and only graduated a couple of years ago. The scribbled notes together with the lecture notes make a very cluttered timeline so I can revisit things in my head and figure out what I was doing (in life, and to decode lecture notes haha).
      With paper especially, I keep it as without it I feel I won’t remember anything and all the effort and stress and money will have been for nothing.
      I place such a high value on even scraps as they serve as my memory.
      But then most of my possessions in storage are just paper piles I’m avoiding…
      I don’t know which is worse… having memory gaps and being frustrated that I can’t go back and look at what I know, or keeping boxes upon boxes (literally) of paper from every phase of my life! 🤷‍♀️
      Pointers HUGEY appreciated.
      Also, if you have got to the other side of this, I am so happy for you. To me, you are magic! ✨

      I went through Identy theft since then, I horde paper from very past old bills to old junk mail and more recently. I have a sharer. I have to cut our address, name and other identification information from everything and anything then shraded. I don't know why it is so Very dramatic Draining to do but, it is. That is half of my horrible hordeing problem. I have piles in every room of my home including the bathroom and hallway.

    • @CB-jh1pt
      @CB-jh1pt 2 роки тому +3

      @@crybebebunny If I know I don’t need a new piece of paper, I tear the address bit off the letter and recycle the rest of it as soon as I’ve decided I don’t need it. Then I can’t go back on my decision! Then I tear up the smaller bit of paper with details on into tiny pieces!
      Doing this helps me eliminate the shred pile from existing in the first place, when I feel the same as you described and it becomes another difficult to do - even though I’ve made the decision to let it go.
      You could even just keep the bits with addresses etc. On and recycle the rest, so you’ve got less paper to shred at a later date? Hope this might help.

    • @cronezone6214
      @cronezone6214 2 роки тому +1

      @@CB-jh1pt The most important piece of paper you have from university is your diploma. The rest can go. If you really can't ditch it all, keep a finite number of things that represent that time best for you, such as the papers you're most proud of producing.
      Start with one phase and see how that feels.

    • @cronezone6214
      @cronezone6214 2 роки тому +1

      I had credit card statements and utility bills from the '90s when I started decluttering. It was an embarrassing mess. It took me a year of weekends to get through it all.
      I had the same fears as you and tried to remove all the addresses and such early on in the process. Most identity theft these days is done electronically via phishing. Nobody wants to go through trash for information since they don't have to anymore.
      The night before trash pickup, I'd take my bags of bills I'd paid and throw them in the bin for collection. The only ones interested in the trash bins in this neighborhood are raccoons.

    Hello Ms. Heart! My son and I enjoy watching your videos together! We love your channel. He has become a great helper in our cleaning routine and sure loves a good tossy-tossy pile!

  • @CB-jh1pt
    @CB-jh1pt 2 роки тому +19

    I LOVE the Tossy Tossy pile shots at the end, and that you’ve always had them in since starting your channel. ♥️ They have been so big lately, and consistently, too - they are so telling of your progress.
    I’ve watched your videos from the beginning, and knowing where your limit was and where it is now gives me SUCH hope that I can aim high and reach goals, too!
    Also…
    I’m glad you had an amazing holiday 😊 🌊 gorgeous photos! When I went on holiday recently I missed your last basement video. This is relevant here because I just caught up… and what you did with that bin of papers?!
    Bag by bag, section by section, knowing your limits and not diving right in, but also not avoiding it and prioritising and… what sorcery is this?! 🪄 😱 🔮
    I was wondering if this is purely a result of strengthening decluttering muscles, trusting judgement, positive mindset and journaling etc., or if you are also managing your ADHD symptoms differently, too? Only if you don’t mind sharing, of course :)
    Sorry for the long comment. I made a comment on your previous basement video just now, but as it wasn’t recent, I needed you to know how blown away I am with how you tackled that! Seriously, Miss Heart, that was SO strong of you!
    I have ADHD and significant hoarding tendencies. Paper is my NEMESIS and whatever you’re doing is MAGIC to me ✨
    I found your video with different things to do to heal from hoarding super useful. Specific to paper and prioritising… is there a magic ingredient I might be missing?
    A paper declutter video would be so helpful (the older basement stuff moreso than stuff that builds up on flat surfaces). I don’t know where to start with uni stuff, for example.
    … though don’t you dare save any bins with paper to sort for such a video if you might make one! There’s bound to be plenty as you go further through the basement, and don’t let me put any ideas into the universe that would even slightly hinder the huge leaps you’re succeeding with now.
    Cheering you on so loudly!🏅 ✨ 🦄

    Hello Mrs Heart.
    I'm Patricia from Brazil. I'm a personal organizer and I'd like to give you some tips.
    You could open some space, where you would put shelves with the organizer boxes that are already catalogued.
    This is an easier way for you to visualize better what you already have organized.
    These organizer boxes can have labels. This will make easier for you to find matching items.
    I love following your videos. I hope you'll be very successful and if you need it, I'm always here.
    God bless your family, take care!

    You ARE strong enough! The letting go…I love watching you curate your basement…you’ll keep circling back around and each time you’ll be able to say the thing is just a thing to that next layer and in the end you’ll have yourself a ‘best of’ basement where your sentiments are displayed instead of binned up. You’ve been working really really hard.

    You are an insperation to me. To not be so easily discouraged to see a mountain of stuff in the garage that needs to be tackled. And to start with easy things. I grow with you to let go of things . And indeed bags with papers drain me also so empty to look at everything , but it gets easier by not tackling too big heaps at once . I now have the feeling that someone understands me and holds up a mirror . Wall in my heart i am a minimalistand dont't care about heaving many things but it is more difficult to let go . And you understand that. Love it.

    It's been wonderful to find your channel and catch up on the videos. You are just so sweet and glad you can create big tossy tossy piles, but give yourself grace when you need to hold onto things.

    I am more of a minimalist. My problem is getting rid of items that I spent money on, I have to try to sell them and I can usually get a good a,punt of money for things. Some things just don’t sell and they were adding up. I also had too many boxes and shipping material. I had one weekday after we got back from our mini vacation. I went through the house closets and sell pile and gathered and boxed up all of the things I saw that we don’t use. I filled the back of my SUV with items and that passenger seat with kids clothes. An acquaintance is having a yard sale to raise money for her friend who has cancer. I dropped it off at her house that evening. I recycled or threw away the rest of the shipping material. It was a great way to clean my house out and hopefully help someone.

    I was so happy when you decided to tossy-tossy/recycle the unicorn bag that your husband made for you. I gasped and my next thought was, "I am so proud of her!" Thankfully you have him everyday and he keeps on giving. You no longer need that bag to represent that. This basement series is going to be legendary!! Keep up the good work, and you got this, of course 🥰😍🤩🦄
