I love this idea! Get rid of the bulky piece and just keep the little plaque that tells you the memory. She could even take a photo of the trophy itself if that feels important, and then do a collage of photos from that time period! Brilliant idea!
You can also take the figures off the tops and screw them into a decorative board all one piece with the plaque below each to take up less room and makes a memory decor piece
I just want to say that you INSPIRE me! I LOVE that you go through the emotions connected to hoarding, ADHD, decluttering, etc. Thank you for opening yourself to the world to help us in this decluttering process. Again, I appreciate how you show the emotions tied to this process. Thank you so much!
Best explanation from someone who has the disorder herself instead of a counselor who does not. Understanding the emotional self soothing and WHY we keep things that are not logical otherwise.
I love the calm energy you exude in this video. You feel less hurried. It seems not having your full time job on top of UA-cam has created some space in your life ❤ stellar job again today!
6:27 the sticker book!! ❤❤❤ that page with the rainbow 🌈 stickers gave me such a visceral feeling! I flipping LOVED collecting stickers just like that!
Aha! I ❤️❤️❤️ that you’ve reached some bins for a round two of decluttering! It’s amazing to me when I did that, I continuously found SOMETHING else that I was ready to let go, and I’m delighted for you that you were able to do that as well. Baby steps, like you said. You are doing SO WELL, great job!!👏🏻 👏🏻 💪🏻👍🏻
You seem so calm and confident in this video. You saying ‘there’s always something to get rid of’ about the boxes is just incredible. You have grown so much and I hope you have taken a moment to feel proud of yourself.
You're quite sympathetic. Thank you for letting us in on your inner life and even very personal (partially even relateable) things. I'm very happy and touched that you're keeping up to tend to it and get better at it. Wishing you the best girl!!
It is so interesting to hear you talk about your hoarding, it is so similar to how I feel. Thank you for helping me process my feelings and belongings.
Logical decluttering. There is always something that can be let go. It is time to let this go....Girl! I was in owe hearing you! I've paused the video to acknowledged everything you said here! You also look so happy and full of energy! And how you spoke about your childhood and you showed the stickers! You might not know, but you are even handling things differently, like phisically! Still with feelings, but the touch is slightly different and it can be seen! I dont know how to not repeat myself...but you are an amazingly inspirational woman, mom, wife and overall human being! Cheers to You and Your beatiful soul!❤ Yiu rock Mrs. Heart!🦄💕 PS: That little white cutie leg of Miss Pepper is sooo cute! 😻
I think I heard this from Psychology in Seattle - as the partner with the "overt" issues gets better, sometimes it exposes the issues of the "covert" partner. Maybe hubby has some of his own attachment traumas to work on. You're paving the path for both of you!
Sometimes the partner may complain about the hoarding but when you start getting rid of it, they don't know where they fit in the relationship with your new behavior patterns and they might gaslight you or encourage you to go on a shopping spree to relieve THEIR stress your change triggers.
You do not have to get rid of your childhood toys. Keep them. I’m in the process of finding some of mine from when I was younger. There is no rule saying we have to get rid of our toys. I’ll declutter my whole house but my toys stay lol. It’s so fun to have them in my hands again. It brings me joy. ❤
Great job, Melanie!!! I’m decluttering my hoard right along with you. On Friday, I filled my back seat of my car full of items that I’m to a thrift store (tomorrow!!) Yeah!!!
I’d take that shot glass shelf and hang it in your laundry room TODAY to display your smaller ponies or smaller Dalmatian toys. I have a little trinket shelf in my laundry room with small stones from the beach, small “Red Rose” tea animals, and the mini brand toys my daughter gets me. It’s taking up almost no space but everytime I wash clothes, I look at it and it makes my day brighter.
Oh wow! It feels like this video was made for me, this was an emotional watch. When you showed the perfect toys and stickers, I immediately thought oh wow I also have a lot of pristine condition toys and stickers that I never used, never played with and was always so proud of because everyone elses toys where so used… and then came the emotional truth bomb that triggered a lot of feelings! I have been watching your videos for years, and have related to so many but wowza! This one hit different and it hit hard!
Hello Melanie, I don’t know what it is but you seem so calm and content in this video. You’re literally glowing from the inside. I’m really enjoying watching your decluttering progress and wish you all the best 🧡🧡 thank your for sharing this vulnerable part of your life
You must realize how much your viewers love and support you! It is raining again here as well. Our neighborhood is planning a big yard sale this summer.
It’s raining everywhere. Where I’m at in the Midwest we are finally out of our 2 year drought and seeing water in creeks again and the rivers are back up to their normal. It’s crazy how much rain the US has gotten moisture this spring.
I love that you don’t give up because of the weather! I Really enjoy your videos so much! looking at your childhood toys brings back memories from my childhood ❤😊
I love it when you look through childhood toys. I had so many the same ones and my mom threw them away while I was at school which was so upsetting. Seeing yours brings back so many happy memories playing with them with my sister.
Not that it looks like you've done a full sweep of things. Maybe you could categorize the boxes in the room. Like this first row all the childhood boxes, next to the kids sentimental, next to the house decorations, holiday, etc. So you know when you start how much emotional capacity you have you can start on that category. 😊
I didn't know what to do with my old tropes and awards but my mother suggested to take a photo of them all. I think that helped and I was able to get the nerve to put them in the trash bin. I still think about it, but knowing that I don't have a place for it anymore helped.
I am from normally sunny California, and I think you are getting our leftovers. We had 3 months of every single weekend it rained. It was very depressing. It'll get brighter soon don't worry
You're so inspiring, thank you for sharing your stories and tips for decluttering.❤ God bless and wishing you a great weekend from Ontario Canada. ❤🌟🌷🌼❤
yayy living room makeover! the bedroom makeovers have been so good :D is it the end of the giant beer poster???? LOL I never thought that was your style 😂
It’s weirdly satisfying to see you at the “I don’t give a **** about this stuff” stage and you just want it gone. Keep what’s important to you girl and move the things that don’t out and say goodbye. Give yourself space to have more space for the things you love! Love the things you love in a large way! Without the things you don’t love so much crowding those things. So proud of you for pushing through this.
Wow, what you said about that good girl syndrome really resonated with me. It made me realize many things about myself and my behavior when I was younger. Thank you so much, that was really eye-opening!!
An idea I heard about trophies, which I thought was great, was to take the plates off and save that in an album so you don’t have to save the whole trophy.
Your childhood toys are awesome! I got a kick out of seeing that! Trauma can take a while to work through, you ARE doing great, I think your insights are spot on!! 💖 ... Maybe Hubby can do a tech round next time he has time off 😆😆
Omg the space is opening up nicely. Another fantastic declutter. Oh the weather, it’s a bit crazy in Ireland too. On the plus side you will be adding more to the yard sale. The living room makeover sounds like great fun. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏👍💪🙏💐🐈🦄
I love your videos they help me go through my stuff and I do have ADHD too but I'm not a hoarder but I am like you with my childhood toys because I was like you picked on in school because I have a learning disability I had a 3rd grade reading level well I have brought it up to a almost 6 grade reading level now and I have trouble understand a lot of stuff they found out that I learn by watching and listening and doing and not by reading like other people so your videos help me because you say what your doing and you show what your doing as your doing it which a lot of others don't do and I have to say I'm very happy for you your doing so good and have gone a long way since you first started hiding behind glasses and your phone well I'll see you in your next video and have a good day or night were you are
I know you are looking forward to the Yard Sale...but perhaps it is good that you have a chance to add even more items for the Yard Sale. It will be awesome! Best wishes!
Thank you Melanie! My youngest just moved back home and I have been working in our attic to make space for some of her things and these videos help to inspire and motivate me so much!!!
Hello!! I love your videos. Would you be willing to do house tour showing your progress and the new organization systems you have in place? I would love to see that if you would feel comfortable making a video like that 🥰 You’re so inspiring to watch and I enjoy your content so much!! ❤️
Keep the childhood toys. You might be ready to let go of some in the future. And if not it's okay. They're all contained and labelled, so if your sons at one point need to deal with them they know what is inside. I think you said it really well yourself. You're doing so well! Love seing the process.
I just watched another episode of a british hoarders show - very educational and inspiring. Now to watch my fave hoarder decluttering. This is a very personal experience because i actually lived at a hoarded house (on the back porch) and I helped cleanup the hoard (no one thanked me of course).
You are doing amazing. Great job. You seem to be thriving with more time for yourself and this. Hope you have nice weather for yard sale. Mayby hubbie can do speed declutters, max 10 min a day You set up a box, like the one you found now and he can go through it with you. Than you can follow it up with recycling and tossing it our keeping it in a labeled box and desigated spot in the basement. Or do a small section of the garage. Just really 10 min, but each day and in a week it will ad up enormously! You have more time now and can help him. He only makes a few decisions and it will not take up to much time with follow up, and thus it will be not to great a task in his busy scedule.
I wonder how much of attachment for people with compulsive hoarding disorder is about not just the individual items but about having a large volume of items, building a fortress of happy and protection against bad.
Do you have a video that talks about how you started your ‘recovery’ process, what it looked like, etc? I love your videos, especially how you explain through your thought process as you work, and wonder how I can help someone get to where you are now.
And speaking of "what is *not* used - as each holiiday and season go by this year, you should consider what you do *not* use and declutter some (most? all?) of that and really open up the space in your home
I love that you had Operation Christmas Child stuff. My house looks like an O.C.C. explosion right now. I've been a year around volunteer for 2 years or so now, and just got the job of Drop Off Coordinator for my town.
I had that Barbie head ❤ ahhhh and I still have those Halloween stickers. Wild. Some of mine were used. I’m super minimal but I still won’t let go of those stickers
I remember Dawn from the Minimal Mom doing a video about regrets. She really didn't have any--there were two things, but one she found and was reminded why she wanted to declutter, and the other wasn't that big a deal. I think that can't be true for everyone. I can't help but wonder if some people do have regrets, but press on anyway knowing the overall goal is worth it.
You have grown leaps and bounds! It is very exciting to watch. I wonder, though, all those childhood toys, if it is healthy to constantly be brought back into your trauma by looking at those toys because every time you see something from your childhood you refer back to all of your trauma. Do you really want to be reminded of all your trauma all the time?
It's so easy to get emotionally attached to stuff sometimes. There is a journal notebook I like called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks that helps me think through the process.
That trauma response though! I kept my room pristine. Also had that good girl syndrome. It's funny how outwardly it seems like we were the opposite, but we're actually the same and showing differing responses 😅❤
Great job! It looks so much easier to see and access everything :3 Are you planning on relocating the sentimental items into your pretty sentimental bins, the transparent ones with the dots on them? ♡
While I hate having to go over stuff multiple times I know it's needed, I know it's the easiest way for me to reduce items, I know that the piles will get smaller and smaller each time I go through it, and that eventual I will only have the things that mean the most to me
I don't drink but I use to collect shot glasses. They are all in a box and have been for over 20 years. I want to give them to someone who will appreciate them. I sometimes have trouble getting rid of items because I want to give them to someone, not just donate it to a resale shop.
take pics of the trophies and save the plaques to scrapbook, or put in a frame. I often take pics of things w good memories even ones I plan to get rid of/downsize. we e waste old tech if we don't keep it... if you have a printer scanner then the scanner can go. scanners are still great for photos, certificates or other memorabilia.
Keep your childhood items. So many parents cleaned their kid's bedroom and just throw away many items destroying their kids cherished childhood items not letting their kids make choices about keeping certain items or donating the items. Can a kid make choices ..yes. You were great to encourage your boys to help with the decluttering or donating items. So many of us including myself, were not given the chance to keep cherished items.
I always thought your vintage items were so well taken care of. My stuff would be tore up so quick so I don’t think I’d have items in good condition if I saved them. Toys broken and clothes all stained lol
You are peeling the onion. Going back over stuff you've already checked and letting go of another layer.
This is what I've been doing with all of my stuff, especially makeup. A few things here and there will all of a sudden make a huge difference!
You can take the plaque part off of the trophies and donate the rest when you're ready. The plaques might make a cool craft with some photos!

It's nice that you have both inside and outside projects, so you can always pivot ❤
Jem! OMGEEEE!!! 😂I LOVED HER!!!! I had the doll with the awesome earrings!!!!! ❤
Aha! I ❤️❤️❤️ that you’ve reached some bins for a round two of decluttering! JEM!! TRULY OUTRAGEOUS! That tossy-tossy pile is looking great. Give Miss Pepper some snuggles for me.
You seem so calm and confident in this video. You saying ‘there’s always something to get rid of’ about the boxes is just incredible. You have grown so much and I hope you have taken a moment to feel proud of yourself.

The good thing about all the rain is that it gives you more items for your yard sale.

Same here for me..
Great job, Melanie!!! I’m decluttering my hoard right along with you. On Friday, I filled my back seat of my car full of items that I’m to a thrift store (tomorrow!!) Yeah!!!
All of those electronics can go to an electronics recycling event. My area has one every year.
I’d take that shot glass shelf and hang it in your laundry room TODAY to display your smaller ponies or smaller Dalmatian toys. Fantastic job beautiful lady basement looking great congratulations 🎊 💜
Look at you and how you’ve evolved over time! Amazing progress! 🌈🦄
You really seem so calm and zen! I love all your videos!👍
I photographed my trophies and then got rid of them. Great memories but they take up too much space
Omg you must have a fortune in nostalgic toys in mint condition. When you're ready auction some and reap the rewards.
You must realize how much your viewers love and support you! It is raining again here as well. Our neighborhood is planning a big yard sale this summer.
I really like hearing the lessons and wisdom 👍🏻

Jem and the holograms …….no way , I loved this as a kid x
I didn't know what to do with my old tropes and awards but my mother suggested to take a photo of them all. I think that helped and I was able to get the nerve to put them in the trash bin. I still think about it, but knowing that I don't have a place for it anymore helped.

You seem so happy! ❤❤❤❤
Hopefully weather gets nice soon 😊 Thats going to be a large sale
I am from normally sunny California, and I think you are getting our leftovers. We had 3 months of every single weekend it rained. It was very depressing. It'll get brighter soon don't worry
Whenever I hear “Pepper says”, I know it’s going to be a good video!
Do you have a Hubby corner for his unmade decisions?
I'd love a hubby update, has he been going through the stuff you've found off camera?
Hello from Germany, hi Miss Heart and miouw pepper. Bit by Bit....you Rock it.🎉🎉
You're so inspiring, thank you for sharing your stories and tips for decluttering.❤ God bless and wishing you a great weekend from Ontario Canada. ❤🌟🌷🌼❤

you have such a fun neato collection of old toys!
You’re such an inspiration! I’m learning a lot about myself from a lady who lives half way across the world!! God is good!
You are doing so much good in your own home and in the world - thank you!
You’re doing great. I remember when I saw your first video of the basement. Omg. So much stuff decluttered.

Glad you are still decluttering. Keep going every small amount of stuff that leaves makes more space for joy!
Thank you Melanie! My youngest just moved back home and I have been working in our attic to make space for some of her things and these videos help to inspire and motivate me so much!!!
You could write a book on how to be a professional organizer. Your basement looks so good.
Hello!! I love your videos. Would you be willing to do house tour showing your progress and the new organization systems you have in place? I would love to see that if you would feel comfortable making a video like that 🥰 You’re so inspiring to watch and I enjoy your content so much!! ❤️

'micro'decluttering? your let-go piles are anything but micro^^ your consistency is amazing
I had those same stickers!! 😀
You are doing amazing. Great job. You seem to be thriving with more time for yourself and this. Hope you have nice weather for yard sale.

Once the garage sale happens - then it would be good to do a basement whole scan of the room to see where the whole room is at.
You keep going girl! 💜🦄💜
I wonder how much of attachment for people with compulsive hoarding disorder is about not just the individual items but about having a large volume of items, building a fortress of happy and protection against bad.

I'm the first to comment that never happens, lovely to see you again ❤
You have grown leaps and bounds! It is very exciting to watch. It's so easy to get emotionally attached to stuff sometimes. There is a journal notebook I like called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks that helps me think through the process.
Love it
That trauma response though!
I am so happy to have found your channel! Would you be able to share where you acquired the detailed declutter sheets you showed ?
I know I am too 💃🏻
You can make a picture from sentimental idoms before you give them away, then you can look at pictures of them if you want to, someday.
take pics of the trophies and save the plaques to scrapbook, or put in a frame. I often take pics of things w good memories even ones I plan to get rid of/downsize. we e waste old tech if we don't keep it... if you have a printer scanner then the scanner can go. scanners are still great for photos, certificates or other memorabilia.

I'm about to turn 46 and am still battling good girl syndrome... Hugs.
I always thought your vintage items were so well taken care of. My stuff would be tore up so quick so I don’t think I’d have items in good condition if I saved them. Toys broken and clothes all stained lol
Operation Christmas child is so difficult to buy for.they have so many restrictions 😢
❤😊
❤❤❤
So deep! Thank you for sharing. You should be so proud of the progress you are making….not only physically but mentally as well. 🥰🫶🏻👏🏻
