My husband got one about a year ago; I was so nervous when he brought her home because I've always been scared of spiders. She's so pretty and fun to watch that I've totally fallen in love with her. She's really helped me overcome my fear of spiders. Now when I find spiders at work I always make sure to put them in a safe place so that my co-workers won't squish them.
I have one too called 'scary mary' - as she trots around her enclosure at some speed. I love her to bits - she's due to be rehoused. I have her glass enclosure ready but, getting to her through her web is going to be interesting 🤣
I grew up in Paraguana peninsula in Northwestern Venezuela, and these little guys were EVERYWHERE. They would infest homes all the time, and, as a kid, I found them more than once hiding under a chair. I always looked under the chair before I sat! Lots of people kept them as pets in glass bottles for years and years. They'd forget about them because they're so hardy and require little maintenance, almost to their detriment. I always liked to see them from a distance, because they are dropdead gorgeous; there weren't many other animals with those colors in that area, save for a few blue-green lizards and iguanas! (Sadly I was too young to know exactly what kinds of lizards they were) Cool to see you featuring them on your vids! Keep up the awesome work, Clint. :)
Oh wow, one of my favorite and most rare and sought after boas (boa constrictor/imperator, technically an interim species but probably more imperator, the Paraguana Peninsula Boa) are from Paraguana Peninsula! How cool.
To be honest... clint's reptiles, has become one of my favourite UA-cam channels in recent times, simply because there's no other channel on UA-cam with a format like yours, and I love it!
It's actually gorgeous. If I was going to get a tarantula to keep, I'd choose this one! (I'm more of a beetle person myself and my Blue Death Feigning Beetles keep my attention)
I like beetles too, just as much if not more than spiders. When I learned about the blue beetles, I wanted some for myself so badly... Did research on their care and everything, only to find out that they're illegal here... *Sighs.* I hope I can get to own them one of these days while I'm still alive...
As a tarantula owner myself, I’d say that the GBB is by far my favorite tarantula. This is always one of my go to tarantulas to show people when they are scared of spiders because it always mesmerizes them. And then they want to get one! 😂
I had a GBB as my first tarantula :) His name was Jellybean and I bought him as part of my plan to get over arachnophobia. He only lived for 4 years, since he was a male, but he was the best ambassador for his kind. I cried like a baby when he passed...
❤Jellybean❤ perfect name, how can you be afraid of something named Jellybean!! I've never been afraid of spiders but if I was that would have gotten me over the fear. 😂 RIP your dear baby. 🕷️🕸️😢
Big kudos to mentioning always adding a water dish even though it's a contested topic!! So many people think that arid Ts don't need them, or they can drown in them. Research shows that they're incredibly beneficial, and I and my friends have witnessed both of my arid Ts face down in their water dish at least once a week, downing the whole thing. Awesome video, Clint and Joey!
This was my second tarantula! I absolutely love them and I picked it because of the heavy webbing and how gorgeous they are but currently mine is a small speed demon and very willing to throw hairs and threat pose, they’re also a juvenile so I’m guessing some of that will chill out as they get older and the stripy little abdomen they have as juveniles is adorable
Clint, I have you to thank for inspiring me to venture into the tarantula-keeping hobby. I purchased my first, a beautiful baby GBB, this year. You are one of several youtubers that has inspired me to replace my fear of creepy crawlies with respect and appreciation. Thanks!
Excellent Arachnid 😊 I'm partial to grammostola pulchra myself, with that lovely velvet black and generally calm demeanor. What a pretty little beastie though.
G. pulchra are very cool, but the growth rate is by far the biggest downside in my opinion. You can get a sling and pass a juvenile onto your grandchildren lmao
I work at a pet store and the zippiest babies are red knees. They move SO FAST! The greenbottles have been more chill with me. But I've only been around them (tarantulas in general) for about 3 years so far. Must be different as adults?
Honestly, I agree with you for 90% of beginners but if someone is a very well researched beginner and they know what they’re getting themselves into and they don’t plan on handling I think they’ll probably be OK. What wouldn’t be good is a beginner getting one thinking of this is gonna be something chill like my H Chilensis lol
A few tips if you are interested in a GBB: 1. All of the handful of GBBs I have owned are somewhat picky eaters. So make sure you monitor for uneaten prey because as Clint said, it can munch on your beautiful GBB during moult. 2. A GBB will not resist climbing - to the extent that I consider them semi-arboreal. If there's a tarrantula that you want to house in a cube tank, this is definitely one since it will utilise a lot of the vertical space, unlike the fully terrestrial species. 3. Don't bother adding any deco that you actually want to see because chances are they will be webbed over. Don't bother with hides either - the T will web its own hide. Branches and vines are the way to go. 4. GBB is a terrible tarantula for a bioactive tank. (a) your plant will be webbed over and (b) the dry/bone-dry condition that the T prefers will kill most plants. 4b. GBB is best T for a Halloween theme tank. Or a Spiderman theme tank.
>GBB >Picky eater Pick one. GBBs are among the most insanely good eaters among tarantulas (all three I've cared for, two of which are now with other people and the third still in my care, have consistently eaten well unless molting).
I double majored in Entomology at KU. I had a professor who got tarantula hairs LITERALLY kicked INTO his eyeballs, like tiny splinters! They couldn’t remove them or do anything for him. So, imagine living your life KNOWING that you HAD spider hairs in your eyes????!! (Would you ever have to tell someone you were dating, or would they NOTICE??!) so weird & interesting!!
Oh, I've been to Great Basin Serpentarium's booths at expos before! Cool to see them featured, really awesome folks. Also, this was my first tarantula species! I love them so much. My first one died shortly after I got it, unfortunately. She was very gentle, not flighty, could easily be handled (although we never handled her because we were still a bit timid of her as she was our first) not very food motivated, and she was very slow all the time. We got her as an adult female. Our second GBB is the complete opposite, super flighty and prone to kick hairs, super food aggressive (provides amazing take downs), and is such a fast spider. She's been our only escapee and has two different enclosure breaches on her records. Also confirmed female, and raised from a sling. I thought GBBs were beginner friendly based on my first, but after the second, I agree they're a bit more of an intermediate species, 3/5 feels like a good score to me. It's definitely an INCREDIBLE one to have nonetheless, and if you're determined enough you certainly could keep it as your first tarantula, I did hahaha but just make sure you're ready for speed, because they can move FAST when they want to. Not as fast as some old worlds, of course, but faster than you'd expect a spider to move if it's your first spider.
Very interesting- how did you find her when she got out? In college, the guys that lived next door to my boyfriend LOST their tarantula…. (well, it lost ITSELF & got out!!) One of their girlfriends ‘found’ it under the fridge several months later, & she never came back!!
@TurtleJeepJen Both escapes happened while feeding and rehousing, so my partner and I were right there and able to grab her and put her back almost right away, with very minimal chasing down, and in fact the second time she ran out quite a ways, but actually before we could scoop her up with a catch cup she ran from us right back into her enclosure. I don't know what we'd do if we actually lost one, if it were to get out on its own while we weren't around, although there are some tried and true methods for finding escaped Ts I know some people do, sich as putting down flour or baby powder on the ground and look for footprints. You can put out water stations and hope it'll show up at one of them. Also just searching along the corners of where walls and floors meet since they'll likely travel along those, and always checking things like clothing and shoes before putting them on because they'll huddle into tight dark spaces when no dirt is present for digging. I think there are several other methods, too, so if I did lose one, I'd try as many things as I could to find it and otherwise tell housemates and guests to keep an eye out
Gosh Clint is an absolute dork and I LOVE IT. Also appreciate his commitment to taking the piss out of naming conventions, I have similar thoughts navigating the birding world
I got one of these guys on a whim after a buddy gave me some acrylic enclosures since he got out of the hobby. Absolutely one of my favorite creatures I’ve ever kept. Got lucky and got a suuuuuper chill one. It skittish at all even after 3 molts
I've got a juvenile male that I've had since he was a tiny sling. I absolutely love the lil guy. He can be a bit bolty and he's very food aggressive. But other than that he's absolutely great and beautiful!
I have my GBB in a 7.4 gallon shallow tank (with a ventliated lid) right on my desk where I work at home. She uses all the space, loves to wander around and is surprisingly active when it comes to hunting down the poor crickets and other critters I feed her. Absolutely gorgeous spider but I do not (EVER) handle her. She's simply too skittish and insanely fast. In the six years I've had her I have had to remove her from the tank once to repair a cracked panel and she didn't run away from my hands. She teleported. Across the room. In half a second. Yeah. Luckily she wasn't injured as I had placed the tank on the floor to minimize that risk.
I would love to see more tarantula videos! Especially about the Antilles pinktoe aka Martinique red tree spider. ESPECIALLY How they used to be classified as Avicularia versicolor, and are now Caribena versicolor. I would also LOVE to see a video on Typhochleana seladonia, which I recently discovered!
I wasn’t looking to add a GBB to my collection until I was in a pet store who liquidated all their tarantulas for 90% off and I scored a 1 year old female for $24 USD. Was tempting to not leave with several of them. It’s easy to care for. I refuse to handle it. I will just keep it fed and watered! Because this is the most furious species I own. It does not hesitate to throw hairs like it’s butt is a machine gun! I’m still very happy to have it. It’s hard to keep the water dish filled because it loves to form a complete web over the dish. I usually just mist it’s webbing once a week.
I've always wanted to keep a tarantula. I especially like the GBBs and the Pink Toed and Red Kneed species. But for now, I just enjoy the little jumping spiders that choose to live on my patio and bless me with their adorable presence.
Very cool Tarantula species for the intermediate collector and a favorite in the hobby and pop singer, Billie Eilish. I think the Trichonephila clavipes; FKA Nephila clavipes or Gold Silk Banana Spider would also make a good candidate for this channel. They are prevalent in the southeastern United States. I have found them in South Carolina, and they are fairly intimidating at first, but are pleasant to handle, and aren’t inclined to bite. Plus they are stunning and majestic in their black and yellow scheme to match the gold silk they extract to build their enormous webs. Eliot Stanton of Cobweb Castle has and does keep them and had an enclosure made for them, called the “Spider Tower” or something similar. One dealer I buy from at expos, Corey Chapman of American Invertebrates will carry these spiders when they are season, in the spring and summer months. Otherwise, I have never seen these spiders at expos or pet shops. So, buying them online may be your only option in attaining them, unless you live in the American Southeastern states; primarily Florida and Georgia, I think.
My favorite in my collection. Love the webs they make and that they are so active even during the day. Mine spends the majority of it's time out and visible rather than in a borrow. So even if you can handle it, just being able to see it most of the time makes up for it. In my opinion 🤗 Nearly a most have in every tarantula collection
YES CLINT! THANKYOU! I SUGGESTED THIS ONE MULTIPLE TIMES. It was my first pet tarantula ever, and I even took in a rehomed one as my third tarantula. Sadly my first one passed away. This is a great tarantula species for a beginner IF you do your research. They're very fast and loooove to kick hairs but if you can handle that, they'll be an amazing first pet tarantula. Make sure to offer them plenty of anchor points for webbing and things for them to climb!
I seen this spider online and I fell in love immediately. I have yet to own a T. But this will be my first. I am genuinely terrified of the things and I have a friend who is willing to do all the moving and hopefully minimal handling while I'm there. From that point I doubt I'd be having it on my skin.
I keep about 70 species of tarantula, and the GBB is easily in my top 5. I especially like how different they look from molt to molt. Really fun watching them grow up into that beautiful tricolor tarantula.
@@turtlejeepjen314 I follow several tarantula channels: Exotics Lair, Dave's Little Beasties, Tarantula Kat, Tarantula Collective, Dark Den, etc. As well as turtle channels, frog channels, general exotic pet keeping... I own a small zoo 😅.
I love Clint's humor 😂 For some mostly-will-never-use knowledge - According to some dictionary entries, "greenbottle" is defined as "a common dipterous fly, Lucilia caesar, that has a dark greenish body with a metallic lustre and lays its eggs in carrion" Went down the fly rabbit hole and found that these flies were named greenbottle flies because the iridescent green sheen on the flies was reminiscent of the glass green botttles and vials were made from specifically. And so the tarantula was named after the fly, which was named after the glass. Thanks, Google 🤓
100% on the fact videos and pictures really don't show off just how gorgeous these guys are. My husband is super, super not comfortable with spiders so sadly I can't have one of my own, but I love seeing stuff about them.
I just adopted my very first tarantulas, and this one has had my eye for months! The reptile store had about 10, and I just couldn't pass him up 😭 I love the tiger stripped abdomen and am so glad I came across this video!
Probably my favorite T. The webs they make are as gorgeous as they are! I have a 2" sling right now and can't wait for her to get big enough for a real enclosure to web up
This is definitely the spider for me!!! :O I got a fire leg half a year ago and I’m ready for another spider for sure. I don’t care for handling but I like making nice enclosures!
Wonderful video! I have just shy of a dozen tarantulas and if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be the Greenbottle Blue. They're gorgeous, reasonably fast growing, super easy to care for due to their preference for bone dry substrate, reach a good size of around 6", are great eaters and just really enjoyable to watch since they're usually out in the open wandering about and webbing up their enclosure. I wouldn't recommend trying to handle one due to their generally nervous disposition and ability to bolt much faster than most new world tarantulas, but for a hands off "look but don't touch" kind of pet I couldn't think of a more thoroughly delightful tarantula to own than the GBB. =)
I feel like I don’t need to emphasize how much I like this species since my juvenile gbb is my profile picture. They really are great and easy to take care of. Mine has around a 2 inch leg span, so it’s really starting to show its blue legs. The carapace is in a cool transition phasing from gold to green. If you want a tarantula and you’re not afraid of the possibility of it bolting when frightened, this is a great option. I only had one tarantula before getting a gbb. I do think they’re good for beginners, but probably not for someone trying to get over a fear of spiders. A large percentage of tarantula keepers including myself would say that if they could only have one tarantula, they’d own a gbb
There’s so many beautiful tarantulas in this world! Idk if this is even possible, but I hope you can talk about chrysina limbata some day. I can’t even imagine seeing one of these in real life. It’s so unique!
Hi Clint! I came across this video and your channel for the first time today. I really enjoyed the content!! Super informative, super fun, and straight to the point. You've gained a new subscriber!
Awesome spider, thank ypu Clint for the full footed review! Finally I made it to comment first, patreon perks 😉. I just picked up a Brazilian blue dwarf beauty, also a mouth full.
I'm pretty sure mine I purchased as a sling a year ago is going to be a male. He was always very defensive until I put him in a taller enclosure. They do like a bit of space above their webbing.
Such a beautiful tarantula! I love the "Best Pet" videos because you never know if it will be an animal that would make a reasonable pet or if it will be a completely unreasonable animal for the average person...which are very informative because they will hopefully make people stop & think before they get an unreasonable animal when there are so many fantastic options that are reasonable. One more thing...the off topic discussions in these videos often make me giggle!
I had the great pleasure of handling that beauty here in Venezuela in my last year of high school. Park keepers were advertising the park to see who wanted to do the mandatory community service there and they brought that tarantula to convince us how awesome it would be. I was the only one who wanted to handle it. I held it on my hand and it slowly walked from my hand all the way to my shoulder while leaving a web trail. I was mesmerized. Such incredibly beautiful creature. 10/10 would hold again.
Loving this video! Can you please make one about C. versicolor next? C. cyaneopubescens have a special place in my heart. It was my first tarantula and it was so great i got more. I just love watching the colours change with each moult so i have multiples of them now.
I once considered this species as a first tarantula for me. Then it was Cyriocosmus elegans. But finally I decided, that I'm happy with the amount and types of inverts in my care (for now)...
6:20 “when it comes to hardiness, we give Joey’s feet a score of 5/5, and the GBB the same score” Listening to this in the background while multitasking with a buzz ball on an empty stomach was wild

yess
i was scared of spiders so I bought spider :p
this one is so cute
like it moves its butt so funny while making web
There's a weird bell curve with spiders that tarantulas sit at the peak of.
that's awesome

VERY interesting…. There must be a way to profit on them somehow, especially if they are that hardy!!
How do you know when they're approaching a molt cycle? I have 3 ball pythons so it's obvious with them. How does one tell with a tarantula?
To be honest... clint's reptiles, has become one of my favourite UA-cam channels in recent times, simply because there's no other channel on UA-cam with a format like yours, and I love it!
I have a GBB , he's a super big baby 😂. Non aggressive , super timd, great feeder and beautiful to watch .
Absolutely amazing first spider 😊
GBB's are hands down my favorite tarantula!
It's actually gorgeous. If I was going to get a tarantula to keep, I'd choose this one! (I'm more of a beetle person myself and my Blue Death Feigning Beetles keep my attention)
I love death feigning beetles! I have them and a couple other inverts including a Gbb
you can look into xenethis, pamphobetus, aviculaira and poecilotheria genuses for some really colorful ones
Oooh, I’m planning on having some Asbolus verrucosus in my native vivarium for a heavy-duty detritivore. Beautiful animals; excellent choice!
If you like that check out the Ephebopus cyanognathus.
I like beetles too, just as much if not more than spiders. When I learned about the blue beetles, I wanted some for myself so badly... Wow my male has been super chill. No hair kicking and no bolting unless provoked accidently (Water fill ups etc). But man can they teleport
I want one SOOOOO BAD but I'm afraid I'm going to scare it or hurt it. 😅😭

You were absolutely hilarious in this video, Clint 😂 Great job and an equally great spider 💚💙🧡
I think they are too flighty for a first-time owner. They are kinda in-between beginner and intermediate. Still so gorgeous and a wonderful species.
As long as you're not trying to handle it, it's an amazing beginner species. I've never had mine bolt on me even when while rehousing.
Agreed. They are definitely to flighty for handling in my opinion.
Their beautiful T's and should be in everyone's collection.
Mine kicks a lot of hair too.

love that you are branching out into more tarantula videos. Lets get a Grammostola Pulchra vid
I bought one of these for Christmas, they are so pretty ❤ my first exotic pet ever, they're only a sling still but they're super active and ver quick
I have one named Sky. She's so cool. The way the colors change from sling through maturity on this species is amazing for sure.
This was my first species, love them so much💙❤. The webbing, the appetite, the colors...10/10
The naming part reminded me of the Holy Hand Grenade skit - "Greenbottle Bluebottle Orangebottle is RIGHT OUT"
1...2...5!

Either my first or second favorite arachnid, along with emperor scorpions! Glad to see this species covered in a video.
I've always wanted to keep a tarantula. I especially like the GBBs and the Pink Toed and Red Kneed species. But for now, I just enjoy the little jumping spiders that choose to live on my patio and bless me with their adorable presence.
Love these videos man! Any chance you could do one on the Arizona Blonde someday? (Aphonapelma chalcodes)
I think they are amazing! The colors and the webbing and their personalities are overall just amazing!
I've waited to long to become a patron member and Joeys feet is the perfect selling point, I'm joining!
We need more tarantula videos! Maybe Pterinochilus murinus next?
I absolutely second P. Murinus lol. Should be a good showcase of the extreme end of Tarantulas.
Guessing an OBT would get -1 for handleability 😂
Guessing an OBT would get -1 for handleability 😂
I think these are the perfect tarantula. They do it all, they web, they climb, they burrow, they're active and they have a good feeding response
I seen this spider online and I fell in love immediately. I have yet to own a T. But this will be my first.
I am genuinely terrified of the things and I have a friend who is willing to do all the moving and hopefully minimal handling while I'm there. From that point I doubt I'd be having it on my skin.
Absolutely one of the best pet Ts (I have a female). Gorgeous, and their feeding responses are unreal.
I keep about 70 species of tarantula, and the GBB is easily in my top 5. I especially like how different they look from molt to molt. Really fun watching them grow up into that beautiful tricolor tarantula.
Exotics Lair… you need a channel like that- tarantula ones are always very interesting! (I have my Snapping turtles!🙂🙂)
@@turtlejeepjen314 I follow several tarantula channels: Exotics Lair, Dave's Little Beasties, Tarantula Kat, Tarantula Collective, Dark Den, etc. As well as turtle channels, frog channels, general exotic pet keeping... I own a small zoo 😅.
i had one of these as a kid. that thing lived way longer than the site said it would, i got her when she was tiny and she lived to almost 7 years
The intro is just delightful 😊😅
Ah finally some more tarantula videos. And one of the best ones too.
I love Clint's humor 😂
For some mostly-will-never-use knowledge - According to some dictionary entries, "greenbottle" is defined as "a common dipterous fly, Lucilia caesar, that has a dark greenish body with a metallic lustre and lays its eggs in carrion" Went down the fly rabbit hole and found that these flies were named greenbottle flies because the iridescent green sheen on the flies was reminiscent of the glass green botttles and vials were made from specifically.
And so the tarantula was named after the fly, which was named after the glass. Thanks, Google 🤓
good video. i have a gbb sling, Seance. awesome webbers and cool pattern.
100% on the fact videos and pictures really don't show off just how gorgeous these guys are. My husband is super, super not comfortable with spiders so sadly I can't have one of my own, but I love seeing stuff about them.
Possibly best outro ever!
Speaking of which, my GBB molted last week..it should be hungry for some wormies now. Thanks for reminding me to feed.
I just adopted my very first tarantulas, and this one has had my eye for months! The reptile store had about 10, and I just couldn't pass him up 😭 I love the tiger stripped abdomen and am so glad I came across this video!
Great video! And I agree that you should always have a water dish. I’ve seen countless species drinking and have seen many problems with dehydration.
Great choice for a starter or anyone that likes T's. They change so much from sling to adult its amazing.
Love my GBB never lets me down for feeding day! Isnt scared to hang out in the enclosure in full view! Great display species ❤
Definitely one of my favourites, I’ve had my female for 2 years. They’re so pretty in sunlight and have such a good appetite.
Could you do a series of goldfish videos? Best pet, breaking down the types of goldfish you can find.. and guest star with Luke's goldies!
That spider has some beautiful coloring.
Definitely a contender. I'd be hard pressed to choose between a C. cyaneopubescens or C. versicolor. Both are great.
Can you do a video on the Antilles pinktoe!
Oh I'm loving the T content ❤
Amazing video as always Clint and team!! Lot of laughs this time :)
Cute spider
Just bought a young female from a breeder that should be shipped this tuesday and arrive this wednesday. Can't wait to house her safely ❤
There’s so many beautiful tarantulas in this world!
Idk if this is even possible, but I hope you can talk about chrysina limbata some day. I can’t even imagine seeing one of these in real life. It’s so unique!
When I got into tarantulas this was the first one that really caught my eye
This is the next tarantula on my list to get.
I don't like spider content, but this is the video that gets me to subscribe.
I have one of these. They're amazing
Hi Clint! I came across this video and your channel for the first time today. I really enjoyed the content!! Super informative, super fun, and straight to the point. You've gained a new subscriber!
I have a GBB right now and it's my first spider! So beautiful!
This sounds like the PERFECT pet tarantula for me.
what are you looking for in a T
I love when my gbb molts. She is so beautiful.
One more thing...the off topic discussions in these videos often make me giggle!
my favorite: *King Cobra Video*
I’ve had a sling for the past two weeks. The GBB is the most entertaining of all my tarantulas to feed
Thanks for another interesting vid Clint 👍
"Have you ever had to make your mind?" this man is a gem
Great video, I always wonder what the next pet will be, because this channel has covered a lot.
I think the next video should be about puffer fish-or maybe lobsters…. I don’t recall many fish reviews!!🙂🙂
One of my favorites in my collection! I love mine so much! Always out on display!
I got a lil GBB tiger. Once you get started on pretty spiders its hard to stop.
I do sincerely appreciate that first minute and a half of dad jokes hahahahaha
I once considered this species as a first tarantula for me. Then it was Cyriocosmus elegans.
But finally I decided, that I'm happy with the amount and types of inverts in my care (for now)...
6:20 “when it comes to hardiness, we give Joey’s feet a score of 5/5, and the GBB the same score”
Listening to this in the background while multitasking with a buzz ball on an empty stomach was wild
The blue/purple tarantulas look amazing
The skeleton tarantula is also pretty impressive.
This one is my first tarantula raising it from a sling. So far it's doing great and I'm so in love with him
All the hairs on the table are a good example of why you don’t want to handle these spiders
Love your show!
That is such a spiffy tie color!
I'd love to see more tarantula care scores. I'm looking at getting one in the future but having a hard time deciding 😅
