    Love the setup and giving the tip about if it can make its payment, you will feel good buying it. That sticker looks awesome there. Thanks for the shoutout Craig 🤙🏼

      Thanks Brother! Yes in the world of bees it helps if the equipment can pay for itself. Anytime man! Thanks for the decal. Hope your season is hopping and going well.

    Thanks for the tour. I’m with you on buying and paying as you go. I’m just starting out so I’m paying for everything now with the hope of the bees reimbursing me. Lol

      Our pleasure! Thanks for watching. It will definitely pay for itself in time. Keep the bees healthy and the rest will come in time. Building a little at a time really is the best way to keep overhead down.

  • @woodlandharvesthoneycompanyllc

    Good and helpful video. I started my honey house last year. Poured the floor with a floor drain and added a septic for the sink drain. It's paid for. Now this spring and summer I want to get the building up and closed in. If so we'll be extracting and bottling in there in July or August.

      Sounds like you are well underway. Hope you have a great season. I wish I would have spent the extra money on a slab floor.

    This is the best honey house tour. Wonderful practical tips such as the dehumidifier, entrance blower, windows to let bees out… along with doing this as debt-free as possible. Thanks again!

    Sweet setup there. You must not live close to a main highway since you don't sell much honey from your honey house. I have seen where people will sell their honey in an outside "Help yourself" stand. Bob Binnie says road signs were very effective for him to get customers in his store. My wife is involved with our honey operation also which is so helpful in so many ways. Have a good week.

    • @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924
      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  2 роки тому

      We sell a decent amount from home, but we are a little off the beaten path. I’m sure road signs would help tremendously. My wife handsome almost all of the sales, marketing ect. She is a lifesaver. Thanks for watching.

    I got a similar hose setup that I show in a video I've got waiting to go out, along with another piece of equipment you have. That hose for me for hot water makes life so easy!!! I'm cleaned and ready to store without even leaving the honey house... I have found it to work well as long as I'm careful with it. I did cold for a long time and just like the hot better. Great tour Craig!!

      Thanks Mike. Our honey houses are very similar. I really like yours also. I will have to pick your brain a little on the hot water. I really like the idea of using hot water to clean. Maybe the time I tried it, the water was too hot. It would definitely work better than cold I’m sure. Just one of those things to play with. I tried it on an old 55 gallon drum that had cappings stored in it and it melted to the side. I will definitely talk to you about it and see what I was messing up lol.

    I'm in an apartment... Extracting a handful of medium supers is quite easy... But as I get more beehives I may have to rent a space somewhere. I like the fact You've shown I don't need a massive installation (well I will eventually) guess that's part of "growing with your bees) 😊

      You can do a lot of work in a small space if the room flows right. Growing with your operation is best. We will eventually out grow ours, but it will be a while. Thanks for watching.

    Looks like you have done very well setting up your honey house. I like your thinking on pay as you go . That is the best way to do it. What is the size on your set up ? . Thanks for all your advice on things to look at an ways to plan . Thanks

      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Kathy! It’s 12x24! Yes pay as you go is in my opinion the best way, especially for new beekeepers. We built the whole operation a little along the way. I think it’s more satisfying and you learn more. Thanks as always and hope you and your bees are well.

    Looks good! Why don’t you like hot water? You mentioned that in the video but didn’t say why. Thanks

    • @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924
      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  2 роки тому

      Sorry for not explaining it better. The only reason we don’t like hot water is, it can melt cappings in the extractor, making it almost impossible to get the wax off the stainless steel. To be fair the temp could probably be adjusted down, but I just don’t want to chance it. Thanks for watching.

      I use Maxant bottling tanks, dadant and sons extractors and Maxant wax melters. They are all pricey, but I can’t remember what I paid. Google them and it should tell you the current prices.

    Im taking a pergola and walling it in. Two windows, sliding door and exterior door. Small 18ft long x 7ft wide, but only 10 hives. Clear plastic roof. Lansing, Michigan. Floor drain, water hose faucet. What did you use for floor covering? Looking at waterproof laminate, but 400 to 800$

      I guess it would depend on what your goal is? Bottles honey vs comb honey etc. if you were wanting to produce extracted honey, depending on how many colonies you have? I would chose an economical extractor, uncapping tub and a cold knife. Plus some buckets and your set.

  • @prairiesweethearthoneyapia3242

    Love your setup! Thank you for sharing. I have a few questions if you don't mind. Can you let me know how long your table is that holds your wax processing and bottling tanks? Would you choose to put those side by side again? Do you have a creamer too?

    • @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924
      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching. The table is 48" and no I don't like them side by side. I move the wax melter when in use. We don't have a creamer.

      @@prairiesweethearthoneyapia3242 just for ease of maintenance. Our floor is wood construction with with beefed up construction and beams. Honey is heavy! The concrete floor would be better for weight and cleaning.
