I know you know that when Stephanie gets maniacal that means she’s got a real challenge in front of her. She has been laughing maniacally the whole time lol. I guess I will just inform you that any friend of Stephanie’s as a friend of mine and when I saw the intro to this, I immediately subscribed to you. So it has happened once again, my friend. This is the power of Stephanie Canada. Merely associating yourself with her will get you a whole bunch more subscriptions. So far, I am enjoying watching you mightily, and I love that you have a whole different sense of humor from Stephanie that is certainly just as much fun.

@@AaronicaBColeCo Mwah-ha-ha - the vintage sewing machines are calling your name. The challenge is to stop at just one... because I have a hand-crank Singer 99K, a 1951 Featherweight, and a hand-crank "toy" chain stitch machine. With all of the accoutrements in the form of sewing feet. And that's my one-bedroom apartment limit...

My "daily driver" is a Singer 201. My second favorite might be my Singer 301. I have a Kenmore 158.1802 "super high shank" and a 158.1941 "convertible" that are Must-Keeps as well. Oh, and my Singer 128 genuine handcrank....... Ugh - maybe the thinning is going to be harder than I thought.....

@@aimee-made Oooh! I was daydreaming of a Singer 201 with a potted engine before I settled on a Featherweight (either they were in tables or were too expensive). I vote keep. And I vote keep for the hand-crank - because a) COOL, b) it can sew through leather and canvas without blinking, and c) useful if the power goes out. Plus there's only so many of them that survived the "Great Power Cord" switch-over...

@@stevezytveld6585 fun fact: any machine that has the "motor boss" - the hole on the right side of the machine body - where you would typically attach an outboard motor - can be retrofitted with a crank. Now, the repro cranks aren't as well-made as the original Singer ones (of course they aren't!) but I did put one on a 66 Red Eye and holy cow, that thing can punch through anything.

I’m so happy to meet you through your collaboration with Stephanie. I loved the sheet fabric and pattern you provided her. Such a cute dress! I subscribed, too. 😊
PS - the three inch hems were put in so you could adjust your hem to fit the length of the fashion of the day and if your children (or you, I guess) got taller. I grew up with a mom whose mother was a seamstress so every girl in the family started sewing at about four. My mom made many of our clothes as well as more decorative things like curtains and slip covers. She did most of the work by piecing patterns and directions like the one Stephanie brought you. My mom is so talented that she made my wedding dress from three different patterns with gorgeous Belgian lace and individual seed pearls attached, all by hand. The dress was stunning.
PPS - I am so sad to find out about your studio because I would have loved to take part. We just moved out of Atlanta to near Chattanooga. We used to live in Norcross and I grew up in Decatur. I can’t believe I had never heard of your studio. 😢

oh also, when you are cutting knits with a rotary cutter, you should put some weight at the opposite end of the fabric, the resistance will help keep it taut. As you cut with the rotary cutter you want to pull the pieces you're cutting out away and up a little with the other hand. it takes a little practice but I've been able to get up to 6 layers of a knit that way, as long as the blade is good.

Your two piece dress is cute on you. I love that color on you. I have many sewing machines. The one I like to sew on the most is my antique Singer 301, slant needle, sewing machine. I just Subscribed to your channel. I live in Eastern Kentucky; and I am 76 years old. I have to have sleeves and more fabric on my tops and bottoms (to hide what time has done to me). I enjoyed watching you make that basic tube skirt. In High School, we had to make a torn blouse to wear with our tube skirt. The fabric was torn (not cut) to make two even, on grain squares that were sewn into a sleeveless, boat necked, pull over top. Thank you.

Hi, Aaronica! Beautiful skirt in a great color. I love a straight skirt like your creation.
I tend to cut fabric MUCH better with a rotary cutter than I do with scissors. You’re not alone! My friend’s mom introduced me to the existence of rotary cutters about 30 years ago-it changed my life. I only use scissors for cutting very small pattern pieces and for cutting thread.
I was going to suggest the Wobble Stitch (narrow zigzag) for stretchy knits, but I suppose it isn’t very vintage.
I was taught to sew on straight-stitch-only machines in the 1970s. Our Home Ec teacher told us to use a loooooong straight stitch on knits. It worked okay, but I like the Wobble Stitch and/or serging better. The Stretch and Sew technique was popular in the 1970s, too.

Thank you!!! I love a rotary cutter. I can't believe it took me so long to really use them.
