Thank you for including alterations! So many turn their noses up at this one. Sure, sometimes dealing with people is a balloon-popper but setting your own hours, prices and helping people feel stunning in their clothes is chef’s kiss!
Ok....this is the first of your videos that I've seen....I'm off now to see your others! I felt like you were talking just to me... Like a trusted friend sharing secrets. Thanks~
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a 72 year old assist who has done a little of everything. I had an alteration business for a long time and got really good at it. However, I just couldn't make any money at it. I live in PA and everyone wanted everything for nothing. I think it's where I live. I did bridal as well as ready to wear. The last year I did it, I made a big $1700. Till I paid my business insurance and taxes I made $750 in a year. I did things I had never seen before or dealt with before and figured it out. I do still sew, but enjoy sewing for myself. You should see my pattern after I get done doing all the changes for my fit issues. It works, but looks like slash and spread Swiss cheese. Keep going girl. I like watching you.
I just got to be your lucky number 100 subscriber!!! One thing that has been super helpful is collaborating with others in my niche. I think you’d see good success with that too!
Love this video! Thank you for sharing your experience and tips. I feel like hanging out my shingle as an alterations specialist would be the one I'd feel most inclined to pursue in 2024. The nice thing about fitting to an individual as opposed to a fit model for RTW is that you can get very specific to the individual and the "rules" matter even less.
Thank you for this video. For me, it was very timely as I am really at a crossroads trying to decide how or if I will be moving forward with my sewing business. 2023 just crushed me and I'm trying to find a way forward.
Well, I’m just now seeing this video today is September 23, 2024 so it’s like eight months past when you posted this. But I had to subscribe and leave a comment because Sewing entrepreneurs need to stick together. 🎉🎉🎉
This is the first video of yours that I have watched! I have subscribed and am going to see what other videos I am going to watch of yours lol. I love that you are blunt and upfront but also inspiring and pushing others to start living their passion and dreams! You have inspired and helped this momma who is starting her business from her passion to work towards escaping a bad/toxic situation with her two littles! Thank you for all that you do!
Just a note of caution for fellow viewers: be cautious on costuming and alterations. It can really require a lot of self-advocation to get paid by organizations or people. Being confident in your abilities and being able to explain things can really help.
Yes yes yes! I also feel this way about even custom pieces period. Sewing seems to make people think we should volunteer as tribute to work but no, this is a skill set and we deserve to be paid.
Great video! I’m looking to transition from brick and mortar as an Esthetician. I love creating and making embroidery, mini/lap quilts/sublimation and more. I feel these are saturated but I would like to try. I clicked on the links and they all say under construction.
I have listened to you and I really haven't gotten enough information to do anything with it. I guess I missed real directions to do anything. i'm broke now and can't pay for your time. I wish I could learn from you.
@@syltoy2745 I agree there may be no “real directions to do anything with it”. However, respectfully, may I suggest you go through the content again and decide what may peak your interest. Then search the lady’s channel to see if she has more content that goes deeper. Alternatively, go on UA-cam and do a search - that will get you started and just maybe you will be able to afford the coaching at a later date. Best of luck - I pray you find a way forward 🙏🏾. 21:45
I’m not sure how to take this comment. While I do give lots of free information, I don’t just give away everything for free. Sorry you didn’t get more?
Thank you for sharing tips @AaronicaBColeCo, I definitely want to get into sewing prom dresses. I am preping to get started in the prom dress making space. I'm so nervous tho😩My only fear is once I make/sew the dress it may not fit customer. Ugh!

Listen… don’t let me get comfy making alterations!!!! I will be making BANK! Lol
@@AaronicaBColeCo 2024 could be the year for it! $$$$ you know my goals. 🤩😉

Oh wow!!! I love this description!!!! And welcome to my channel!
The alterations tip was big because I was in a Prom designer's group and they work themselves to the bone!
I’m sure they do! Like literally to the finger bones

Thank you! The people wanting everything for nothing is why I don’t actively sell things I make because you’re right!
Thank you for this video, Aaronica! You've dropped some real nuggets here!

After watching your stories and seeing how precise you tailor that really sounds like a good fit for you!
Thank you so much for this video, it was inspiring and has given me some ideas on something I kind of gave up on.

You are so welcome! 2023 was reaaaaalllly hard on small businesses-especially ones that didn’t pivot with marketing.

10000% agree! I costumed for a couple of groups and let’s just say I got “paid” for cost of materials (ie thrifted items bc I had such a time crunch)
Thank you for sharing. I do alterations as a side hustle.
Oh I might need your info to refer people to!
OMG, I "know" you from my sewing groups 😍
Hey!!!! I love when my worlds collide!
Being doing Alterations as aside for little over 12 years now and it ebbs and flows 😂
That makes sense! I'm sure like wedding/prom season is really busy!

Where can I become a Pattern Tester?
Depends on the pattern brand. Most do calls on IG and FB.
