All it took was about 8 minutes of this video and you've earned yourself another customer. I'm not in the market right now, but when I am, you'll be first on my list (I was thinking of DIY's myself a wheel when I upgrade to a Moza R9 but I won't even bother with this on the market).
Seeing how much work you put into this product from start to finish tells me you are passionate about what you are making. It may not be the most efficient way to build them, nor the most cost-effective, but this kind of handiwork can barely be found anywhere anymore.
You are a true artist and I look forward to one day opening one of your boxes when I'm ready to get it.

Pretty cool! I have a machining background so the milling stuff I got. But after watching this I had to go watch some videos on how to make a Silicone mold and how to make custom PCBs. I'm building a wheel right now that I found plans for somewhere else. The main body will be metal since I have a CNC plasma cutter that part was super easy. handles will be 3d printed then wrapped in suede. Since it's a one-off wheel and it's not even my design ill just wire it with wire but if I ever decide to make my own design ill look into casting the grips and getting a custom PCB made up.

Wow it's amazing how much effort you put into your wheels! I love it! Maybe you should look at pcba (assembly) service, it will save you a lot of time soldering and if you purchase at a high quantity the costs are quite reasonable (smd is lower priced though).
Keep it up, one day I will buy a wheel from you! :D

Great video mate and I've just 3D printed a 1x1 metre CNC to cut wheel faceplates with. Just a word though, please don't let your dog run around in a workshop where you are cutting Carbon Fibre as although you've got PPE on the dog hasn't and it has lungs, like you. An extract from a study on carbon fibre for you "Carbon nanotubes have a remarkably similar shape and size to asbestos fibres and are causing some researchers and doctors to raise the alarm. There is a very good chance that conditions similar to asbestosis can be caused by inhaling carbon nanotubes, and if you’re working with them you should take adequate precautions immediately."

Hi Zach, Just wondered what tool/bit you use for countersinking the carbon plate? I've tried chamfer bits in my router but they seem to dull quite quickly and leave a less than desirable finish to the carbon fibre. Thanks and keep up the great work! Tim

  • @workshop1193

Hi, this has blown me away the craftsmanship in this. What is the black device you put the silicon mould into? It looks like a vacuum pot but you then attach what looks like a compressor not a vaccum pump, what does that do in the process?

I am in the process of building my own rim as a fun DIY project (got into ACC want to build the rim of my car of choice for now, the Audi) and I must say, yours is of a completely different quality! I am using Aluminium for starters and a standerd joystick controller you can buy in any hardware store. Advantage, it is going to cost me probably 5x less when it is done. Disadvantage, it won't have near enough the same quality. If I ever get the money I will definitely get one of your wheels for my Fanatec CSW! Beautifull craftsmanship! Do you also build your own PCB or do you outsource it? It is a much neater solution than a joystick board.

New subscriber thanks to Chris Haye! I'm loving the work you're putting into this, as it's inspiring me to try this here in Canada. Currently looking into Arduinos to see if I could use that as an avenue instead of custom PCBs (which, honestly, give it a serious cool factor for those of us that love bespoke techie parts - I'm not bashing on your (amazing) work, just wondering if it could be done there).
I have thought about modifying pre-existing hardware, too (pedals, shifter, handbrake etc) as part of a learning experiment before developing some bespoke sim-racing hardware on my own.
Keep up the good work man! Don't chase your dreams - make them!
