I think this film should be required viewing for anyone who wants to explore ancient sites. I felt the reverence as well as the beauty of Bears Ears. I want to thank you for making a fantastic short film that touches not only those that have been there, but will compel others to visit with the respect it commands. You sir, have a done a remarkable bit of filmmaking. Very well done and I appreciate your labor of love. Simply Epic.
Only someone who’s truly been in a sacred place, and learned to read it more than any book written ( save maybe Rumi) could have written such poetry, such a prayer
I’ve long appreciated your videos and how you share these special, sacred places while striving to respect and protect them…and you do that well. This video was such a step beyond, so beautiful, so delicate, so sensitive and honoring, I found myself holding my breath through much of it-overwhelmed by the videography, the music, the black and white-textures and reflections, everything about this video was a prayer, not only the words. In just a week I get to go again, to experience a new-to-me walk among more sacred spaces on the mesa. I will watch this again before I walk-and every time I have the privilege to return again. My deepest thanks.
Wow! So powerful and thought -provoking. This should be " pensum " for all of us. One of your best videoes, if not the best! Thank you for sharing! Stay safe!
Thank you for this. Beautiful. Respectful. Honouring. This is the way we always try to visit these amazing places. Keep memories present and past, learn from what is presented to you, recognize and accept the gifts that are given to you, no matter how small they seem.
Todd is my nephew. I admire him very much. I was there the day he was born. I've shared some great moments with him. He is the real thing. This is sublime !
Beautiful! I love it!! Thank you for sharing and caring!!! A wonderful prayer, amazingly paired with stunning filmography and a great message of stewardship and respect for a fragile treasure and the importance of preserving it for, and passing it on to, our future generations.
This was amazing! It was a story that needed to be told and represented what was your best video. Thank you for doing this and conveying such a powerful message.
Excellent piece, Dana. Good photography, good music, meaningful monologue. A creative and moving piece. Been here, done that, haven't recorded it - yet. Thanks for the inspiration.
Amazing video. Beautiful. The prayer words, so meaningful. (I would love to have your prayer written on a small card I would always carry with me in that country, and elsewhere. Can you post the text / transcript?)
Thanks Gary. Appreciate it. My friend Todd who is in the video says this is what he says before every one of his walks. I sure wish everyone did. I learned a lot in the making of this video.
Gary, here is a transcription of the monologue: Hello, I am here. I am here. I am here and I come respectfully. I humbly ask permission to walk in your ancestral home. I acknowledge that I am but a visitor. I promise to leave nothing of mine behind. And to take nothing of yours away. Your vowels are wind, and your consonants are stone. As I walk, I will listen for your words. As I hear, I will speak your names aloud. My heart is open to what you might show me, and what you might teach me. Anything you show me will be respected, but in no way expected. Anything you teach me, I will try to pass on. I ask forgiveness for those who may have walked here before, without reverence, including myself. Please teach me how to walk here. I wish to stay. I ask that you guide my steps, and keep me safe, for I am alone. The world is big. I want to feel small. You are like the stars above me, always above me, but I cannot see you. You have become the ground underneath me, always underneath me. So, I will remember you as I walk, propped upon your shoulders. And I will count you like the passing stars. Thank you for the miracles you have shown me. Thank you for the miracles you have shown me. Thank you for the beauty of the world. I am like a child.
For everyone who goes to these sacred places, Thank you. You summed up exactly how I feel when I too walk in these sites. The black & white photography was a wise choice.
Impressive. One of your best video's. Is the prayer Native American? Thank You, made my day as I spend much of my time alone in the Nature of Mother Earth.
I recently debated with a friend, a truly intrepid fellow tramper who knows this region like the bones of his hand. He was frankly bitter about the new status of bears ears, and saw it in the light of not trying to protect it but the gov trying to monopolize off it, and that it’s so called intent of protection would be buried in all the tourists now attracted to a Place that before now wasn’t nearly as popular. Just wondering what other folks on this feed think of this. I argued for federal protection thinking of possible mining and other such “development” to come, but in the end I think he has a pt. I’ve never in my 60 odd yrs see so many folks in the back country and frankly it troubles me
Dana, Trying to reach you - I want to play this video at the Bears Ears Education Center. I am the Manager here in Bluff, Utah. Would this be possible?
Black and white production is incredible. What a great prayer of permission and gratefulness. Just wow.
My favorite! My good friend Todd Field did an amazing job. We worked that one for months. Really appreciate the note!

thought provoking in a spiritual way Dana!
Thank you.
Not really qualified to comment on your videos, but I must say of the ones I have watched this one might be your best...ty Mr. Hollister🦅
Thank you.
We're planning a trip to Bears Ears and Cedar Mesa next fall. Do you recommend any hiking guides in that area? Thank you.
I do not know any guides however you should call Blue Mountain Trading most and RV Park and check with them. Ask for Craig he is the owner.
For everyone who goes to these sacred places, Thank you. You summed up exactly how I feel when I too walk in these sites. The black & white photography was a wise choice.

Throughout the years you have made many great videos, this one is your best.
Thank you. I enjoyed this one too.
Any comment I would make would seem shallow after watching this. Stunning.
Thank you Suzette. Means a lot.
A beautiful, inspiring and meaningful message. Thank you!
Appreciate the note. Thanks.

I agree with your friend. I am troubled. Bears Ears did nothing but put it on the map.
Wonderful.
Thank you.
Very pretty... thank you.
Thanks
Very, very powerful. 🥲
Thanks Sherry.

Hi Sylvia. Thanks for the note. Yes you may use it. No problem. If you need an MP4 I can send you a file. Let me know.
Does anyone know why Dana has hidden most of his videos?
Maybe the Bears Ears is already getting too many visitors, so he didn’t want to promote it further with his videos.
@@jlacy73 Maybe so, but I would like to hear his thoughts.
Very nice.
Thank you.
Very moving.
Thanks.

Thank you.
So much better than going to church. Worship the earth instead of some make believe character in the sky. At least we can prove that the earth exists.
