The two ronnies were just superb comedians and writers. Their use of wordplay was as good as it gets. Every thing from the cockney sermon to four candles to my blackberry is broken. So many great skits.❤
Ronnie Barker was a master of wordplay. His pieces to camera were precise, fast paced and almost all written by himself. His partnership with Ronnie Corbett was the No.1 British '70's comedy boy-band. I second (... third and fourth) you lookin at the "The Two Ronnies - Four Candles" sketch. It is certainly the most quintessential, though perhaps not my favourite, Two Ronnies video.
As Americans, you will have to appreciate that when the Two Ronnie's were at their peak, the UK only had three TV channels which covered the whole country, so their humour was seen by nearly everyone in the UK with a TV. They were big hits. Ronnie Barker used a pseudonym: Gerald Wiley, to send in sketches to the BBC which were consistently funny, and so got loads of airtime.
Most important to continue watching after the sketch ends with its ‘punchline’ and the video transitions a into a brightly lit studio set. This, then shows the Two Ronnies years later, giving a much better ending to the ‘4 Candles’ sketch.
Ronnie Barker is and has been my favourite comedian since I was a child. His wordplay was brilliant. Also his use of regional British (mostly English) accents could further confuse a situation, with often hilarious consequences. An absolute genius with words. Glad you liked this. ❤✌🤘
The two Ronnies were regulars on our TV's and favourites of the nation. The scripts first class delivered with absolute comical hilarity-Their brilliant play on words Brilliant-treat yourself to many more of their videos. Also Ronnie Barker(the bigger of the two) in "Porridge" (British slang for Prison) 1974 series Excellent. Ronnie Barker although a marvellous comic was also reckoned to be a first rate actor.
As you said, theres no way im remembering this... but Ronnie did and the punchline is really that all of that was planned to perfection beforehand... genius
One of my favourite sketches from them. Ronnie B must of had a crib board off camera. He probably wrote this himself (under Gerald Wiley) as well. "Is that mine?". Just brilliant!
The silver haired guy was Ronnie Barker, one half of The Two Ronnies who secretly wrote a lot of the sketches under a pseudonym. He finally announced it had been him all along!
Ronnie Barker (the customer) was good at word play and actually wrote a lot of the sketches on the show. He was also good at playing different characters and starred in a number of sitcoms including Porridge and Open All Hours.
Albeit he wrote under an assumed name at first, and the producers were shocked when he finally revealed it was him - he even used to criticise his own material he'd sent in!
@@BlameThande The reason for all that was that he wanted his material to be taken up on merit and not because he wrote them. In fact only reason he revealed himself was because he couldn't stop the rest wanting to meet 'Gerald Wiley' (his assumed name). So he arranged a meal where they would meet 'Gerald Wiley' and after the time 'Gerald Wiley' should have arrived past and everyone started to wonder where he was. It was only then that Ronnie Barker said 'I am Gerald Wiley.'
It’s great to see the Two Ronnies still finding new audiences in 2024; some of the stuff might not translate very well to a non-British audience, or even to a younger audience who are British, considering some of the thing they made reference to being specific to 70’s/80’s topical events and popular culture. But you’ll still find a lot of their stuff hilarious, especially sketches like this one, where it’s all about great wordplay, & misunderstandings; some of their best sketches, including this one, are great examples of their skill with language. Look forward to working my way through the rest of the Two Ronnies Playlist; I’ve seen the sketches countless times before, but it’s great to see how new people react to them, particularly younger audiences who had never even heard of them before. It shows that some comedy is indeed timeless; that a sketch that was written & performed in the 70’s or 80’s, can make new audiences laugh 40 or 50 years later.
Ronnie Barker was a legendary comedy genius! From the two Ronnies, (seen here), to Porridge and Open All Hours, we saw the golden years of British comedy.
Some recommendations, though you may have already found them, FATHER TED, IT CROWD, THIN BLUE LINE, SORRY (RONNIE CORBETT), BRITTAS EMPIRE, PEEP SHOW, DETECTIVES (JASPER CARROT), IDEAL, COMIC STRIP, THE YOUNG ONES, LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, GLAM METAL DETECTIVES, STAGGERING STORIES, RIPPING YARNS, RED DWARF.
The difference between British and American humour is that in the UK we don’t do a post-mortem on the joke and try and explain it to other people. We just laugh.
@@dominictucci6030 Not quite the same thing - "reaction" can be just laughing, whereas "analysing" means some kind of intellectual process in order to understand and/or explain .
This is one of my favourite Two Ronnies sketches, even though it only has one of them (Ronnie B) in it. Another one I would recommend is "Crossed Lines". Some of their best material is "Four Candles" and "Mastermind", but those might be harder to understand as a lot of the references are specific to Britain in the 70s-80s.
The Two Ronnies "Accountant Bore" is a riot. ;} By the way.. I saw you were a bit shocked at the "sack of coke" line, so to explain; Coke is a type of distilled, clean(er)-burning coal fuel. It's for getting warm, not high. :]
Ronnie Barker wrote alot of thse sketches under a assumed name no one knew it was him until an award ceremomony The Two Ronnies were on the BBC on a Saturday Night and were Britains favourite comedians Barker was a comic genuis any sketch is gold,Try Catherine Tate Uncle Derek and Nan sketches you will be amazed
I'm 54 and i loved watching Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett as a kid. Guys if you do the Four Candles, the last gag is based on the word Bollocks. Isay this as most don't get it
2:04 So it seems quite normal to me. I am an old man and already drunk. In order to be able to remember the many drinks that I have to take away from the bar, this is how I identify the individual people for whom the drinks are by their appearance. . Is there anything else you didn't understand?😁
The barman always reminds me of Roger De Courcey He was a ventrilaqu, ventroque, I was better at spelling it than he was delivering it, he talked through his moustache and had Nookie Bear as his prop.
Oh My, new sub here, love the music but Micky Flanaghan, The Two Ronnies, so much great comedy from the UK, recommend two Ronnies musical routines esp. 'Slim Pickman and Polly Parton'
The Two Ronnies are fantastic, although dated in some of the attitudes expressed (it was the 1970s, 90+% of shows were). In fact, Ronnie Barker (the drunk guy here) later attempted to personally apologise to as many people as possible who he'd been offensive towards for the sake of a racist/sexist/homophobic joke. Which is praiseworthy, though of course it would have been even better not to make the jokes in the first place. Still, there are a huge number of very funny sketches where you don't have to make allowances!
were good days...before the nonsense. . . check out 'Dean Martin and Foster Brooks' they had some classic drunk in the bar Skits back in the day on the Dean Martin Show. . . .
So glad you have discovered The Two Ronnies. Their work is a comedy goldmine.
Ronnie Barker was amazing at delivering complex monologue in one take
The two ronnies were just superb comedians and writers. Their use of wordplay was as good as it gets. Every thing from the cockney sermon to four candles to my blackberry is broken. So many great skits.❤

"Four Candles" is the The Two Ronnies masterpiece.
"My blackberry is not working" It has an Apple too... 😄
You can’t go wrong with the Two Ronnies, four candles, mastermind and crossed lines are all worth watching
Fork Handles! 😂😂
Most important to continue watching after the sketch ends with its ‘punchline’ and the video transitions a into a brightly lit studio set. This, then shows the Two Ronnies years later, giving a much better ending to the ‘4 Candles’ sketch.
The Two Ronnies ‘Name Droppers’
If you like clever wordplay.
Also: ‘The Strange Case Of Mrs. Mace’.
Never saw that sketch before. Brilliant. Apparently both Ronnies practiced their lines all day every day before recording.
Yes but he said he'd get the waiter to bring out the drinks, that's why he's explaining which drink is for whom.

"If there's room in the glass" is my favourite line from the whole sketch and it can easily pass you by
Please do some more of thier stuff, you won't regret it, thier word play is world class
The Aldershot brass band skit shows the Two Ronnies true genius
One of my favourite sketches from them. Ronnie B must of had a crib board off camera. He probably wrote this himself (under Gerald Wiley) as well. "Is that mine?". Just brilliant!
The Two Ronnies are superb. The two telephone conversations is excellent.
The silver haired guy was Ronnie Barker, one half of The Two Ronnies who secretly wrote a lot of the sketches under a pseudonym. He finally announced it had been him all along!
Gerald Wiley
Loved Ronnie Barker in Porridge as well as open all hours.

The Two Ronnies were questionably THE BEST double act in England. Absolutely BRILLIANT
I've known Ronnie Barker from when he was an able seaman on HMS Troutbtidge
You guys reaction is so funny. When Jess starts laughing gets me going. Ronnie Barker is so brilliant
Classic British comedy ❤

Two Ronnies 'Racing Duck' and the 'Crossword' sketches are amazing as are all the otehrs mentioned below.

Priceless! After all these years! Oddly, not a comedian, more an actor
Regeneration, you both look like you are in the skit in the bar watching your reaction lol. It looked terrific 😊
Great review and a great laugh 👍
Ronnie Barker “ Mispronounciation “ for me was the best and funniest …… ❤
The difference between British and American humour is that in the UK we don’t do a post-mortem on the joke and try and explain it to other people. We just laugh.
lol about right
The difference between British and American comedy is that British comedy is funny.🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴

It's a reaction video ! It's meant to be analysed! 😅

Try Morcombe and Wise too, especially the breakfast. They are the same as the two Ronnie's absolutely brilliant 😂

The bar tender was on the Bisto family advert who served some sausages and shouts "bangers" apart from that he's not famous.
The magic of the "Two Ronnies" is that they took everyday things and stretched them.
The two Ronnies were geniuses - so funny
nobody does comedy quite like the British 🇬🇧 👍
This is my all time favourite!
The Two Ronnies "Accountant Bore" is a riot. ;}
By the way.. I saw you were a bit shocked at the "sack of coke" line,
so to explain;

Ronnie Barker was the best comedic wordsmith going.
The barman was in Bisto Gravy advertisements here in the UK.
I'm 54 and i loved watching Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett as a kid. Guys if you do the Four Candles, the last gag is based on the word Bollocks. Isay this as most don't get it
Ronnie Barker was great as Fletcher, a prisoner. Look for Porridge. That up for many laughs. And the late great Richard Bekinsdale
Ronny Barker, genius Comedian.
Plot twist - Robbie Williams has a 2 Ronnies tattoo
The “sack of coke” is BBQ fuel - I suspect you thought it might be something else.
Another great sketch is “swear box”

I like "I do exactly what I'm knowing" but it's so subtle many people miss it (as they did here).

I missed it. There are so many I miss every time
Don’t question the sense of logic in the build up during Two Ronnie sketches - it’s all a set up to the jokes. Classic Two Ronnie, they were geniuses.
The descriptions are so he remembers who wants what to drink
You have to watch “The swear box “ it is hilarious, also set in a pub.
Lovely to see Americans are reverting back to their roots and learning proper Humour!! 😂😂😂
Older generation???? That period of comedy was brilliant.
And don’t forget all our tv was live then 🇬🇧
The two Ronnies do a mastermind sketch that you will enjoy if it’s available.
Look at the two Ronnie's pronounciation problems a great sketch.
Four candles is brilliant
The 4 candles sketch is a classic

It's not about the bartenda, lots about trying to remember which drinks go to who!
Cant believe youve never done Tommy Cooper.
The descriptions are part of the joke it's not under cover boss..
Great video 👍 British comedy is about language and absurd and just stupid 😂😂
Watch btwo ronnies cross line. hilarious
This is comedy, not an exercise in logic!
