      Thanks! Yeah, a missed opportunity indeed. I love their new cameras, but they should have either discontinued the old models or had them ready to go in the Google Home App, so the mix of old/new could be integrated flawlessly.

    I installed everything as you recommended, and everything has been running fine, but our doorbell had a bad halo I could not correct, so I purchased a replacement NEST wired doorbell. I removed the defective doorbell from our devices and proceeded to install the new doorbell, but it will not connect to the existing NEST network. It won't let me select the network and reaches out to the other devices to complete the setup but cannot do so. I followed your suggestions and set up the doorbell first and the cameras in proximity to the doorbell, and everything worked. The thermostats were installed fine and didn't need to be near the doorbell. Is there a trick to installing the replacement doorbell now that I removed the old doorbell? Everything is working fine except for the replacement doorbell. I am sure you have run into this before, and any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

    I just received a couple of nest hello doorbells a few days ago. I caught them on sale at $150 each and now learning about the Nest App is going away I believe will send them back since I will not be able to review past recordings. Too bad!

      They won’t let the Nest App go away without you being able to see past footage in The Google Home App. So if that’s why you’re returning them, I wouldn’t.

    You mentioned these cameras record 24 x 7 but several sources including CNET say this feature is not available with this line of cameras. Your videos are Fantastic, but I wanted to point this out.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 роки тому +7

      I’m not sure what you saw on CNET, but the only camera in this line that doesn’t do 24/7 is the battery doorbell. The wired doorbell & the indoor/outdoor cameras are completely capable of the 24/7 recording. The only caveat is the indoor/outdoor battery cameras need constant power for the 24/7 (using the optional power cables). The new Nest Floodlight Camera & the new Indoor Wired camera also are capable of the 24/7 recording with Nest Aware. So I’m not sure if you’re just talking about the doorbell or what, but if CNET said otherwise, they are wrong. I install these cameras everyday, trust me, it works.

    Biggest gripe I have experienced is that I utilize the battery power instead of constant power. When I plug the camera in to charge the app does not show me charging status just that it is plugged into power. Additionally the fact that the nest app was visually appealing and user friendly compared to the google home app needs work.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 роки тому

      I have noticed (at least with mine) that it says it’s not charging in the Google Home App, but it actually is. If I completely close the app it fixes it. I should say that happened to me when I first started testing them, but it seems Google fixed it. How long have you had yours? It might be fixed in an update.

    If one installs two of the battery cameras, one within range of a mesh router and one out of range of said router (but in range of the other camera), will the camera that's in range of the router act as a range extender (via either wifi or Bluetooth) between the router and the battery camera that's out of range of the router ?

    Why isn't anyone talking about the huge issue of having the power cable exposed on what is supposed to be a "security" camera? Let alone having the camera being attached by a magnet. What's the point of even having cameras when someone can just cut the power or remove the camera altogether?

    How do you compare the video quality of the new indoor/outdoor battery camera to the older nest IQ cameras? Personally I have 1 doorbell hello, 2 nest max hubs, 2 outdoor cameras (non IQ) and 6 indoor cameras (non IQ)
    I bought an indoor/outdoor battery camera yesterday. I tried everything and couldn't get it to connect. I even turned all my other cameras off and plugged it up about 5 feet from my router and it still wouldn't connect. A major, major, major complaint I have is the power cable. On the gen 1 cameras it was 15 - 20 feet long and has a USB type connector. With the new cameras the cord is 2 - 3 feet and has a propriety connection. They're forcing you to buy another cable from Google if you want 24/7 recording

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 роки тому +1

      Video quality of the two is about the same, minus that 4K zoom the IQ had. Sorry to hear you’re having such a rough time with it. They can be a real pain in the butt to set up if you only have the older cameras for it to connect to. Having to buy another power cable is a pain, but I understand they had to do it that way to make the $179.99 price point. I do find most of our customers want to plug them in, so they definitely are making some money on those cables.

    Nest’s new cameras are apparently so bad that people line up to buy older models at inflated prices. With the latest Nest Cams only working with the Google Home app, most people are turning to eBay to get older, discontinued models that still support the good old Nest app.
    PS: my local Lowe's had the older Nest Outdoor cam on clearance for $70.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t know about “most people”, but there definitely a few doing that. Unfortunately, they are going to be sorry when they pay those inflated prices just to have The Nest app go away completely. Because it will. I 100% agree the old IQs were better cameras (even though they were way more expensive), but these new cameras are much better than the original regular indoor & outdoor “Nest Cam” models. People just need to give the Google Home App a chance. It’s not as bad as they think. They are improving it constantly.
      The older Nest Outdoor Cam is crap & horribly designed. It’s not worth $70.

      All I know is, we’ve been installing these new Nest cameras on a daily basis & our customers have been very happy with them. I wouldn’t install them everyday if people didn’t like them. I wouldn’t be in business anymore. So I guess, just don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

      @@GeorgeLangabeer The Google Home app is so cumbersome and featureless as with the Nest app you can keep your home security products in one place and not mixed up with non-security products. The only issue I have with the older Nest cameras is the power cords and the size of the connections. Unlike the new Nest cameras the old nest cameras don't have a cool down period.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 роки тому +1

      1. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the Nest app too, but the old Nest App is going away, so that will unfortunately be a non-issue soon enough (whether we like it or not). 2. That one issue you have, is a pretty big issue in my book. Those cameras are very difficult to install (& make look good) if you don’t know what you’re doing. That power cable is horrible. As far as the “cool down” situation, I’ve had zero issues with that on these new cameras and we install them everyday.
