    Imagine holding against a Vanduul swarm with the CDF when the UEE Navy jumps in with this and a full escort.

    I feel unreasonably proud of "our" Warhammer.
    Seriously, I've visited it twice and fought alongside it against two XenoThreat incursions, yet it feels as if it was "my" flagship somehow. 07

    I just hope my org is able to put together a big fleet with one of these spearheading the whole thing. A Javelin, a few hammerheads, and a bunch of vanguards and Gladiuses (Gladi?), redeemers, Sabres, retaliators, and maybe an Idris or two. It would take a hell of a lot of manpower, and probably very overkill for most things, but goddammit it would be epic to have it all flying in formation or something.

    Has CIG's writing team written anything to match the huge number of Javelin's sold to players, vs the small number of Javelin's we've seen in cinematics or on tour during Fleet Week?

    • @TheAstroHistorian
      @TheAstroHistorian  2 роки тому +1

      Javelins are super common in the verse and the ones sold to players are all mothballed ones. The one we have been touring is the same one every year, the UEES War Hammer. So I don't quite know what the question is, but yes the lore team accounts for the massive number of them out there. They are so common they are often the anchor of a battlegroup over the Bengal.

    I think designing the new generation of Javelin would make for a good contest, another "The next great starship design." Maybe the frame could be modified somewhat to distinguish military Javelin from those sold to civilians/citizens.
    I would've liked to see more stats on the gen 3 Javelin such as crew compliment and traveling capabilities.

      As a javelin owner, it seems only you guys are salty!
      I fully expect it being expensive to pull the ship out and it being an occassion that you have to save up for with other ships making you money. Perhaps something you do with an org for a specific mission, like a vanduul raid.
      I don't think many javelin owners expect to be able to just float around in the ship with no cost, in fact, I think the whole idea is that it's supposed to be a challenge!

      @@Tom--Ace You must not have ever gone on Spectrum, but that's a good thing. There is a VERY prevalent amount of people that demand to solo ships Connie sized and bigger, it's not an insignificant number of people. Yes, they're very ignorant of the game and where it is going, but that doesn't mean they are out there. I almost pity the people that bought these massive fleets yet aren't in orgs or have no friends, because they'll be very much sorry that they did

    The videos you make are really good, but I have to correct you on one thing. If you take a cruiser or battle cruiser (which is really just a cruiser that is more heavily armed) from the present or even past time. Whereby the areas of operation and armament has changed greatly over time, then they have one thing in common whereby earlier more important than today, they could fight any opponent who could catch up with you and drive away from all other types of ships. So for me it is wrong to say cruisers or battlecruisers are slow. Of course, these data, doctrines from seafaring and Star Citizen is something else again.

    • @TheAstroHistorian
      @TheAstroHistorian  2 роки тому +1

      Based on the star citizen lore cruisers are slow and large. If transposed to our current ships IRL the Javelin would be a Cruiser class but the UEE Cruiser and Battleship classes are massive sizes in comparison. Effectively Cruisers are designed as more flexible battleships bristling with guns and are faster but lack armor, while Battleships are heavy, big, slow, and devastating. AFAIK Cruisers and Battleships have been phased out of the UEE Navy because they were more vulnerable to faster hit and run attacks and weren't worth the upkeep cost when you could build and run a Javelin squadron for the same cost.

      you are basing this on ships in water vs ships in space, idk maybe a larger ships top speed in space would be higher than a fighter, but take more time to speed up.

    • @piedpiper1172
      @piedpiper1172 3 місяці тому

      I mean, even for wet navy ships-destroyers are routinely faster than cruisers. We also see ship size primarily constrained by efficient power plant sizes and corresponding weapons efficacy-we stop building ships bigger once the available power plants can’t be made sufficiently space efficient to justify the size increase for some weapon system that required the size. If your best cannon fits on a BB, you don’t make a Super Battleship, you make two battleships.
      The primary predator of cruisers and battle cruisers alike was battleships. The lore is simply stating that bulk proved insufficiently tactically viable in this era of weapons development-ships large enough to be cruisers and battleships were too slow (particularly between systems) to reach the field, and once there too lacking in maneuverability to be survivable.
      If your S15 cannon can’t come to bear, track, and hit a destroyer, but the Dessie’s S10 cannons don’t struggle to overcome your shields and armor, then it doesn’t matter how strong the S15 is because the platform isn’t viable.
      Had we not moved to AirPower, we likely would have continued seeing gunnery based navies moving to lighter and lighter armor to size ratios (the Iowa is pound for pound relatively lighter on armor than the Texas, for example) as speed and accuracy proved more and more important than bulk. The UEE have just gone so far down that road, only dessies and fleet carriers remain viable.
      Probably for the same reason we don’t build BC and BB anymore either: fighters and bombers. Even a Bengal needs it’s engines to move, and even those engines won’t enjoy S5 missile impacts.

    love the game and the ships but the lore saying that they keep using the same design for hundreds of years make no sense you would think a navy would design new ships every 50 years or so to meet demands or add in better tech. I would prefer to serve on a cruiser or battleship lol
