    Given that regenerate tech was based in vanduul tech, we've only seen their men, they like fighting, their most brave wear nothing, and they scuttle ships besides capture. My best guess is vanduul already have regen tech and throw themselves constantly at us. The most brave becoming like that of a player who lust for battle but keeps dying, he takes less and less armor till he is just naked with a weapon, as it will only slow him down re-arming each time.

      That also makes a lot of sense with how they use their kingships; as a final blow once the battle is basically already won. They wont risk their point of regeneration needlessly because they probably dont have a backup location.

I hope they give us full freedom to do what we want and the universe will be impacted properly by players. like a trade guild crashes the ingame economy, pirates locking down a system for a time, player wars and stuff. maybe they've said yes to this? but id love to be able to own/ set up factories for ingame companies on arc corp and produce engines or something, but im not 100% sure if this is a thing they've said we''l be able to or not.

    I'm trying to sort out what it is about the Vanduul that actually makes them more successful in combat. It seems to be ramming.
    Lethality isn't something we're really seeing in its intended state yet, as the idea is there's no HP pool for the ship itself but components and perhaps hull. Most fights will require chewing through shields and damaging a major component to finally have the advantage and finish them off.
    The roughest metaphor might be two men in armor and shields fighting with swords. Unless they get lucky, it's going to be a slog wearing one another down until they can get past the shield and armor to hit something critical.
    Then the Vanduul comes in with a sledgehammer.
    And he can use it over and over again, even against enemies multiple times his size.

    • @TheAstroHistorian
      @TheAstroHistorian  10 місяців тому

      Outside of space combat the Vanduul are basically walking war machines. They have natural armor, are almost 9 feet tall, can survive in the vacuum of space for prolonged periods without a suit, and like to get into melee combat. It's difficult for standard weapons to take them down quickly.
      The key with the Vanduul is they aren't just brutes, they are skirmishers at heart so they pick fights they know they can win. Example is the battle of Orion, the battle only happened after the super carrier of the defending fleet was away, even then they waited until the defenders were exhausted before jumping in their kingship to shatter the backbone of the UEE fleet there. Then when things devolve into pitch battles generally the Vanduul always ensure they have numerical superiority. Combine that with a tendency to get in close and, as you said, ram their opponents you have the recipe for their success.
      The key to beating them is to absolutely crush their forces before getting too tired out and ensure no clan lives to tell the tale of their fight with the humans lest they bring more vanduul to the fight.

    My own thoughts and opinion tells me the the Current Vanduul are an Ancient remnant of once part of a Great Empire of the Great Vanduul Civilization with their past technologies and ships who far surpassed that of their current inferior form of tech and ship who is considered Superior, Advanced, and Sophisticated than that of the current Alien and Human Race in the verse.
    Scattered survivors who are living on ships all across the Milky Way Galaxy hoping to reclaim their past glory.
    They are now living as a Nomadic Tribe and Clans aboard their ships, even though their current tech is now a shadow of their former selves but still is far more superior and advanced than most current Races in the SC Verse.

    I don't see the Vanduul being too much of a threat in the long run. They are similar to the Covenant, in that they are very rigid in their tactics, and their main power is their numbers, but unlike the Covenant, they don't really have the technology advantage.
    That unwillingness to adapt their tactics will ultimately be their undoing.
    Humanity was losing the war against them, so long as they didn't take them seriously. As soon as we got an Admiral who took them seriously and convinced the UEE to properly go to war, we crushed them.

    I don't think it is ever officially stated that X12 is a Kingship. At 2700m, the Retribution-Class Dreadnought is the largest Human capital ship, while Kingships are said to be larger still (approximately 3000m). X12 was said to be the size of an Indefatigable-Class Battleship, which is an older ship that was rendered obsolete and are said to be no longer in use.
    The most likely candidate for X12 appears to be a Driller-Class Escort Carrier, which is still nearly twice the size of a Bengal, at 1700m.
    X12 was found with 300 Scythes on board, though it appears only 100 were combat ready, with the rest being below deck as spares. With the inclusion of the fact that it appears that four ace pilots were afforded private quarters, a luxury only shared with the captain and first officer, leads me to believe that this was a carrier focused ship, though this is pure speculation on my part, as we've yet to see if this is a common practice on other ship classes.

    • @TheAstroHistorian
      @TheAstroHistorian  9 місяців тому

      Yeah I realized that they never mentioned it was a kingship after I made the video. Hadn't heard about the Driller-Class comparison as I didn't think there are any reliable sources of information on the length of Vanduul ships yet, just comparison approximations

    • @PsydenIII
      @PsydenIII 9 місяців тому

      @@TheAstroHistorian The length of the Driller is given in the video 'Star Citizen: The Scale of Things to Come". The video is 6 years old, so there could have been some size changes, no doubt.
      Also, for X12 being a Driller, it is just speculation, since it is only one of two classes that we have the size for, the other being the Kingship. The reason people thinking X12 was a Kingship was basically because the Kingship was really the only known large class of Vanduul ship at the time. Since we now know of the Driller, that has become the most likely candidate, though it could also be a Harvester or even some as of yet unknown class.
      TL;DR: Current theory is that X12 is a Driller, but that is only a guess, since the Driller is the only other Vanduul capital ship we have information on.
      Also, don't think I'm calling you out, over all I think you made an excellent video that contains a lot of good info on a race that is hard to research, as is (probably only the Kr'Thak would be harder).

    Edit: also, great video!

  • @kyloben8537

    for humanity to win we need to go on the offensive. unfortunately that's not possible due to the nomadic nature of the Vanduul, if we could find the locations of their largest fleets and their kingships before they attacked system, and catch them off guard, we could pick them off with a fleet led by the retribution. pick off the larger fleets and the smaller ones will be easy to deal with. as for the Xi'an, I don't think they are working against humanity, they may be facilitating the vanduul war, but what better way to keep yourself safe than to divert your enemy onto someone else? the Xi'an don't want us dead, no more than they want the Vanduul dead, they probably see this war as either a way to eliminate one or the other of us so they are left with only one threat to face, or at least to keep both of us occupied fighting each other so they themselves can remain relatively safe. I doubt they will join the war on either side unless it becomes necessary.

    Is it confirmed we haven't seen a female Vaandul? Or is it just also likely that the Vaandul female/male differentiation isn't really that visually apparent (including in their genetics)? As well as just...there are plenty of species that neither have two genders or there are plenty of species with very little in the vein of aesthetic difference between genders. Not to mention have we understood their phisiology enough to understand how they are born.
    For all we know they have a hive of egg sacks grown from a symbiotic engagement with a different egg laying species...and don't use females or have a binary at all OR it's a hive structure and there is only 1 female and a bunch of offshoots. (which would likely come up in the genetic information so unlikely). Unless genetic differentiation is built into the way in which the birthing process happens, not by the source of the birth but by intentional differentiation within the process that mutates each member.
    I'd like to think the writing staff is intelligent enough to not make every race into a binary dichotomy given even on earth that's not the only way procreation happens. As it stands the Xi'an are just space elves. Humans, but different in shape aesthetically, and they live very long. Which is likely why their culture is just "han dynasty china"
    Changing the base physiological structure of the alien would allow for MORE variation in culture and structure and allow them to create more creative races through making logical sense of how their phisiology would manifest in culture.
    So far, the Vaandul seem to be the most interesting of the races so far, only because of their remaining mysteries. The Xi'an, while obviously still covetting secrets...seem pretty clear cut.

      They already have nonbinary species in the Banu so you are right in that they already have species that doesn't use binary reproduction, though Banu do require two separate Banu as far as we know.. With the Vanduul most of what we have comes from the bodies aboard the captured Kingship and as there has never been a sighting of a juvenile, and there were no juveniles on board the ship it basically breaks down to, we don't know enough at the moment to tell.
      As for the comment on the species I think you only have done a surface reading on the Xi'an. Their initial pitch was 'Space Han/Seleucid' in the same way as the Vanduul were 'Space Vandals/Goths' but they have undergone a deeper rewrite over the years. They are a really complex species in terms of their culture and understanding of the universe, to call them 'space elves' is reductive.
      As for a desire to see non humanoid aliens, I understand that but it is also important to remember that the process of making an alien not look familiar to us requires animation rigging and a lot of work which can't be duplicated as easily. Not to mention humans tend to see non-humanoid species as animals so it would much harder to get a player to empathize with them.

      While there are some other forms of procreation the overwhelming vast majority is sexual dimorphoric. They captured and studied their DNA as the mention of mitochondrial DNA. DNA that is only passed from female. Considering the most likely had dozens if not hundreds of corpses to study we probably know quite a bit.

      In case you're still wondering a year later, I'm pretty sure we've only seen the males. I saw somewhere that specifically the males did the raids and manned the ships, so the females are presumably off in some vanduul hub worlds somewhere. Maybe they have a life cycle where at a certain age they go and do the raiding and stuff, and eventually they return and mate with the females or something. Or maybe they're a hive-like species and in areas that have a huge vanduul presence we might find vanduul 'queens'

      @@evildude2135 Yeah I just hope it's the latter and not the former. So far it feels very "we haven't seen a dwarven woman but supposedly they just look like dwarven men"
      Last thing I want from Aliens is something as mundane as pre-modern human behavior.
      I'd like them to experiment more with how physiological structure might actually affect behavior and societal structure.
      My only issue with the "Vaandul Queen" swarm thing is that it's VERY overdone with this style of species in media, but I guess if Star Citizen is just going to be an assemblage of space genre tropes in the most cohesive package possible (which is basically all it has achieved in its lore)...I guess they had to check off the swarm predator aliens born from a hive.
      I'd rather something more novel and new-sci-fi in the sense of taking on more modern ideas of species diversity and applying that.
      Really tired of every alien species being a male-female binary where the woman is the caregiver and the man is the provider/warrior.
      Like I'm sorry, how many times do we need to recreate pre-modern humans over and over in different visual aesthetics?

    Why does the Vanduul remind me of the Elites from the HALO Franchise and the fighters remind me of the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica?
    Sounds like a Copyright issues to me.
