- We started at the North Shore trailhead and headed up the Dawson Pass Trail in the Two Medicine area of Glacier National Park. The hike skirts Pray Lake and then takes hikers along the north shore of Two Medicine Lake. It is about 3,200 feet of elevation gain to Dawson Pass, but the lion's share of that gain is in the last 3 miles before the pass. We arrive at Dawson Pass and followed some goat trails to the south along the Continental Divide. Here we had excellent views of the Nyack drainage to the west of the divide and the Bighorn Basin to the east of the divide. The the peaks of Two Medicine were on full display on this day including the iconic Mount Saint Nicholas. We had a nice moose encounter at No Name Lake on the way down the pass. Our total hike was roughly 15 miles and 4,000 feet of elevation gain. It as a great day in Glacier National Park.
Fantastic. Love that walk along the divide. Fantastic south toward mt helen ans north to Pitamakan. Well done folks. 👍
Thanks 👍
Another awe inspiring hike. Thanks for taking us along.
Absolutely - thank you!
That Glacier is spectacular...no wonder there are so many people there. You guys sure show it off in a grand way by getting into the backcountry and skillfully presenting all that grandeur. Thanks for sharin!
Thank you for the kind words. Blessed to be able to put on some good miles in God’s country. Montana cheers!
God’s country for sure 👊🏻

Remarkable views from the Continental Divide ⛰ Rewarding views that don't expire on this climb up to Dawson Pass. Worthy of a repeat! 👍
Fo sho! ❤️👊🏻🤠🇺🇸
Cant hike this too many times.
We hiked to Dawson Pass just 2 days before this. Took the boat ride though to shave off a few miles. It was HOT when we did it.
Fantastic - Montana Cheers!
Heat is a game changer as far as fatigue goes for sure. Thank goodness the views are great distractions 👍⛰ Here's to enjoying the wilderness! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video. Always high quality content!
Glad you enjoy it!
Another fantastic video from Nolan Ventures! Your videos are enjoyable to watch and also informative. I’ve learned so much watching you, thank you for sharing.
Thank you!!
Thanks for your great videos!!! We enjoy watching them. Question - How much water do you typically take on a hike like this one? Electrolytes? We will be there in a couple of weeks, planning on the Pitamakan-Dawson loop amongst other hikes. Do you think it makes a difference whether going out the loop along the North Shore (clockwise from Pray lake) vs counter-clockwise (Pitamakan Pass trail)? Is it worth going counter so that Two Medicine Lake is in the foreground on the way down from Dawson Pass?
Let me start by saying great choice with Pitamakan Dawson loop, it’s fantastic! Our recommendation is to go counter clockwise to avoid some extra uphill if going the other direction, which isn’t super awesome at the end of an 18 mile hike. The north shore hike is mostly flat and views of Sinopah behind you as you walk out are easy to stop and admire.
We have finely tuned out electrolyte/fluid consumption and it is a game changer for us. I carry a liter of wate, 1 liter of green tea, and a body armor drink. Scott carries 3 liter of liquid and a water filter in case we get desperate. We would also recommend cliffbar energy blocks or something similar. The provide needed energy and don’t make you feel weighted down after consuming them.
Enjoy you hike!! Here’s to a shared enthusiasm for wilderness exploration. Thank you!!
What she said👍
Great video. How much weight in your packs for these day hikes? Do you do any overnight hikes?
Thank you. I’ve never weighed my pack. We do overnights but only film a small percentage of our adventures. Cheers.
I did Dawson Pass last year (scaled back from the full loop). The descent is freaking hard on the legs, but it's freaking gorgeous up there. Nearly got run over by a moose cow on the way up - turned a blind hairpin in the forest and it was 25 feet away.
Shooting for the full loop next time I'm there in 2-3 years.
It is hard on the legs on the way down Dawson for sure. The whole loop is not much harder than what you did. Enjoy the trail!
What an epic hike! I loved the Two Medicine area so much when I was there last month. Did the moose shake like a dog when it came out of the water? I saw one swimming in Colorado last year and that’s what it did when it came out of the water it was so cool.
He was slapping his paddles on the water but it was too far away to get good video of it. Two Medicine is a great area- Montana cheers!
