One of the best songs ever written. Love this song.
Tommy and Jack were meant to sing together. Their voices are almost like one. Jack has the lower register and Tommy has the higher. This was 90s but it is really late 80s that held over in the early 90s
A lot of people forget that Michael Carteleone has been the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd for 20 plus years now…

@@crusheverything4449 More likely they never knew. I saw DY in concert twice in 1991. I also saw, in 1988 or 1989, Tommy opened solo for Rush. Pretty sure Michael was the drummer for that, too. (But, I'm old enough to have been there, college age at the time...)

Their first album came out in 1990. I believe High Enough was the first single released. AMAZING group. I can't agree they sound 70s at all though. I saw Styx a couple of years ago when they came through town with Def Leppard and as much as I love Leppard, Styx blew them off the stage. Tommy Shaw still has his amazing voice!

The first release was Coming of Age which they first performed on David Letterman. YOu should check that out. Paul Shaeffer all over the keyboard lol.

I have watched several reaction vids of this song by different creators and she is the first to recognize that Uncle Ted is just having fun.

Tommy Shaw kind of "left" Styx because he was sick of DeYoung wanting him to write songs about robots...while he just wanted to rock out. That is how this was formed.

Dennis didn’t want Tommy to write songs about robots. Dennis wrote one song about robots. Tommy quit Styx because he didn’t want to be a theatrical actor doing Broadway musicals, like on the Kilroy Was Here tour.
These guys had a blast on stage. Really loved what they were doing.

I saw 'Damn Yankees' open for 'Bad Company' around August of 1990. Now I'm a 'Bad Company' fan, love their music, BUT....'Damn Yankees' just freakin' blew them away!!! I left after about a third of the way into 'Bad Company's' performance!!! That's how AMAZING 'Damn Yankees' were!!! Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades(Night Ranger) had perfect harmony AND Ted Nugent can shred a guitar!!!

Gotta love the '90s. Jack blades was a part of night ranger. Two other songs of this group: Silence is Broken and Where You Going Now. You will love them. Also Tommy Shaw and Jack blades did some albums under Shaw/Blades in the mid late 90s and play together recently on occasion

The “wrestling suit” is called a singlet, and they are pretty comfortable for playing drums in (I am both a wrestling coach and drummer/percussionist)

Most definitely. Late 90's Nugent was deafening in an outdoor amphithreatre and we were not even seated (standing) anywhere near the stage and system. The legitimately Loudest concert I have ever been to to this day. (AC/DC, Starset, and Avenged Sevenfold being various others in the running, for me)

Just finding this and I’m glad! Damn Yankees is called a super group although they only made two albums. This is probably one of their better songs but they have a few other good songs too.

Nugent was looking for a new band and Shaw got sent there during legal rangles with styx. Then some how Blades became involved as Night Ranger was on hiatus and Shaw pulled in the drummer, Michael Cartellone from his side band and boom! Damn Yankees was born. Now ur caught up.

Tommy sang lead on many Styx songs, man. Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself, Crystal Ball, Man In The Wilderness, Boat On The River, Lights, Sing For The Day, Too Much Time On My Hands, Love In The Midnight, Mademoiselle, Shooz… and more.

Shaw supposedly broke away from Styx and Dennis Deyoung(sp?) because he wanted to ROCK and Styx was headed into more artsy ballads and soft pop songs. He picked the right guys for sure.
I saw Styx about a year ago with Blue Oyster Cult. Surprisingly Styx had a better show.
I get it the 80's for me wasnt great musically either BUT....the 70's bands and 70's musicians were awesome and some bled over into the 80's. Thats definately worth hearing.

Styx is a 70s band and Nugent started in the late 60s with The Amboy Dukes. Night Ranger is an 80s band, though. Also, they didn’t “reunite” to form Damn Yankees. How the F do you reunite to form a new band?

Nugent all but fell off the map in the early 80s, until Damn Yankees’ debut in ‘89. Styx put out like ten albums in the 70s and only two in the 80s, one of which caused them to break up. Night Ranger is an 80s band, that’s clear. Styx and Nugent are 70s artists, however, although Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes have a bonafide classic in “Journey to the Center of the Mind” from 1968 and people definitely know it. Maybe you’re just too young.

I'm struggling to find the appropriate term to indicate that the members of Damn Yankees -- who had previously been members of different great bands and/or solo artists -- joined together to form a new supergroup. "Join," "form," and similar verbs seem inadequate in the attempt to describe their coming together. Perhaps somebody can suggest a verb that accurately describes the forming of a new group from the remnants of multiple past groups?

I have this album, it was 1990. Yeah, too bad they only put out 2 albums, but they were real good. I liked Styx, Night Ranger & Ted Nugent back in the day, so I knew I would like these guys. Mister Please is like my favorite from them :) ....and I just realized I don't think I ever saw this video :O so thanks! Looks like they spent like $500 on this video tho :P
I'm shocked how many reactors talk about Tommy Shaw, but never mention Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and Ted Nugent (The Motor City Madman himself) and Michael Carteleone...THey all have had big careers, and yet everybody just mentions Tommy.
For me, I'm not familiar with the others or their bands. I have heard of Ted Nugent, but didn't know who he was until this music video.
