Bloody 💯 % agree.. one of my fave dances from them., I really liked one of their compulsories where they cut so deep on the corner with a knee bend,, I think it was a waltz but can’t be certain, I actually thought their skates were going to slip from Underneath them! Tess and Scott are incredible too but in an entirely different way., Torvill and Dean just changed ice skate ⛸ dancing !

I didn't realise this was on UA-cam, it's one of my all time favourite dances but haven't seen it since that night and thought it would remain forever a memory to watch in my mind. So amazing to see it again on screen. It is even better than I remember.
So beautiful to watch. This is when ice dancing was ice dancing in the skating sport. Now, ice dance skating is a bunch of lifts and circus performance. Ice dance skating needs to bring back the way ice dancing was originally configured.

they are just breathtaking amazingly great skaters!! I have honestly never seen better ice skaters than them. They share such an unbelievable chemistry on and of the ice. Just look at Chris gazing at Jayne before they go onto the ice. That is such a symbol of their amazing connection and bond and the trust they have in each other. They are just incredible. 100% in sync with each other.
Exquisite! Beauty and strength. Poetry on ice and unbeatable, even by today's standards. Torvill & Dean are a phenomenon, like a shooting comet, never to be repeated, not in this lifetime I remember watching them in their first Olympics, they took the world by storm and captured eveyone's imagination. Jayne is a Goddess on the ice and Chris is a Knight, like Lancelot ravishing us with his eloquent strength...and takes my breath away. Sigh..🔥
They came in 5th in their first Olympics in 1980 in Lake Placid, NY. That was an amazing feat for two people who had to work full time jobs, 8 hrs a day, six days a week. They barely had enough time to devote to Ice Dancing. They quit their jobs after the 1980 Olympics and luckily got a grant from the city of Nottingham that enabled them to devote full time to Ice Dancing. They won every National, European and World Championship after that, then the Gold Medal in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo with Bolero. You are so right about Chris as Jayne's Knight in Shining Armor. She is the Queen of his heart. He has put her on a pedestal. He is so unbelievably handsome and does take one's breath away! Yes indeed! You are so right.

When I think about these two, what I always wonder about is whether they can really ever comprehend how much they have contributed to human enjoyment, human aspirations, to the human condition in general, and appreciate the size of the audience that has and will continue to benefit from these two for a very long time to come. And, whatever else youtube does, the fact that youtube can make this available to us so easily is also a thing that I find amazing. In an interview, Betty Callaway, their onetime coach, once said something like "Of course I'm proud of them as skaters -- but I'm more proud of them as people." That comes through to me, whenever I watch them, and it is no small part of what I enjoy.
yes, I think it is the same with the greatest artists in any field. I had the very great pleasure of seeing Margot Fonteyn performances . She signed her autobiography for me after a performance, but I could not tell her how much she had given to everyone. Something I regret to this dah.

Ну именно на той олимпиаде победили Грищук И Платов ). Помнят ли их? Да помнят и хорошо помнят (хотя в россии о них возможно и забыли) . Хотя именно на той олимпиаде сама програма Грищук и Платова не была такой уж сильной. Но и то что показали Торвил и Дин было не то что от них ожидали (после их победного Болеро все ждали чего то революционного а показали они очень сложный но как раз очень не инновационный номер ). В общем и победа не безоговорочная и поражение спорное
Amen to everything that you said. I remember being so pissed off by the judging at this Olympics especially the men's and ice dancing. Torvill & Dean & Elvis Stojko were majorly robbed to the point where it was almost funny. By the way, the judging in '98 wasn't much better as I recall.
It's pretty rare in any pairs team for the man to be the one that catches your eye the most. He's usually acting more as a frame for the woman. But I always found the way Christopher moved to be so captivating. His lines were just as clean as Jayne's, if not even cleaner. He was a perfectionist and it really showed on the ice. Very powerful. Legend!
+CandyisAwesome86 You are absolutely right, Christopher is famous for his technique and presence. But, imho, exactly in this dance the way Jayne's looking at her partner is the most important moment. Bringing in an unspeakble tensity. The way he moves is fantastic, but her eyes - just here - are the strongest factor.
+CandyisAwesome86 Both were wonderful ice dancers. One of the reasons this pair was so good was because both of them were equal when it comes to skills. I can't imagine either of them skating with anybody else. Match made in heaven!

Like what I like, report what I had heard or read and never tried to judge what i did not understand. Compared this duo with soviet ones. Here the male partner could capture attention even better than the lady. Just emotionally in comparison to soviet experience it's quite unusual.

The whole dance was incredible, so sensual, real rumba. I loved both of them, and both of them grabbed my attention (Jayne even a bit more). I consider them as one unit, and not seperate skaters.
I rememeber seeing this live on TV, when I was 14 and being literally mesmerized by this wonderful performance... They obviously won the gold in everyone's heart but the judges...
I think there was an agenda among the judges to move on from them, especially as they turned pro after the 1984 world championships. It’s preposterous that after 10 years as professionals they weren’t considered good enough to beat the best amateurs in the world.
An absolute dream to watch. I'm no Skater, but I have watched the sport for the last 50 years and know class when I see it. In my opinion--as was often the case in ALL international sports--POLITICS raised it's ugly head here. The division caused by the usual -East--West divide was still present here , but even just old fashioned NATIONALISM prevails.

Amen to everything that you said. I remember being so pissed off by the judging at this Olympics especially the men's and ice dancing. Torvill & Dean & Elvis Stojko were majorly robbed to the point where it was almost funny. By the way, the judging in '98 wasn't much better as I recall.

It's pretty rare in any pairs team for the man to be the one that catches your eye the most. He's usually acting more as a frame for the woman. But I always found the way Christopher moved to be so captivating. His lines were just as clean as Jayne's, if not even cleaner. He was a perfectionist and it really showed on the ice. Very powerful. Legend!
+CandyisAwesome86 You are absolutely right, Christopher is famous for his technique and presence. But, imho, exactly in this dance the way Jayne's looking at her partner is the most important moment. Bringing in an unspeakble tensity. The way he moves is fantastic, but her eyes - just here - are the strongest factor.
+CandyisAwesome86 Both were wonderful ice dancers. One of the reasons this pair was so good was because both of them were equal when it comes to skills. I can't imagine either of them skating with anybody else. Match made in heaven!
+wombatman0 Jayne was an excellent skater with incredible technique (maybe even better than Chris's) and great presence. So saying it was Chris that had wonderful moves, and Jayne brought just smile (no matter how important it was) is so wrong.
+Jonatan Wildchild Didn't say that "Jayne brought just smile ", but pointed that here her emotions and her eyes (not smile exactly) were the crucial points to me. Don't mind being wrong, Sir. Like what I like, report what I had heard or read and never tried to judge what i did not understand. Compared this duo with soviet ones. Here the male partner could capture attention even better than the lady. Just emotionally in comparison to soviet experience it's quite unusual.
+wombatman0 Sorry about this smile. I don't know where I took it from. Indeed you wrote about her expression, her eyes. I agree it was important. The whole dance was incredible, so sensual, real rumba. I loved both of them, and both of them grabbed my attention (Jayne even a bit more). I consider them as one unit, and not seperate skaters.

They obviously won the gold in everyone's heart but the judges...
I remember seeing it as well. Even though they scored the highest for this particular dance it was a travesty that they did not capture gold.
I think there was an agenda among the judges to move on from them, especially as they turned pro after the 1984 world championships. It’s preposterous that after 10 years as professionals they weren’t considered good enough to beat the best amateurs in the world.
An absolute dream to watch. I'm no Skater, but I have watched the sport for the last 50 years and know class when I see it. In my opinion--as was often the case in ALL international sports--POLITICS raised it's ugly head here. The division caused by the usual -East--West divide was still present here , but even just old fashioned NATIONALISM prevails.
