Hi Robbie, Loved the vid mate. You are very modest regarding you're fly fishing abilities. I am in awe of your ability to cast fly's, lures and unweighted baits into such skinny creeks with overhanging branches and shrubs. Amazing casting skills. Love what you do mate.👏
I’ve always enjoyed your flyfishing videos! I live in the northeast United States and right now the weather is extremely cold and there snow. Looking at your countryside is most enjoyable and seeing the white lip snake was also wonderful thanks, Robbie.
Thanks so much Tom. Nothing could be further from my mind than snow at the moment. It was 39C here the day before yesterday. That's well over 100 in your scale. I'm a bit over the heat. 👍👍
The creek looks nice and clean, Robbie. That is some pretty gnarly scrub to be throwing flys around lol. You’ve done a great job, mate. And more snakes 🐍 lol
Hey Robbie I kept a cod for the first time yesterday and ate it with my nan and pa tonight, was amazing. Very fatty but because I cooked it on the bbq most of the fat dripped out. I used your dad's filleting technique apart from taking the head off because I didn't have a great tool for the job. It was 63cm and I caught it on cheese in the Murray River up near tintaldra. I also caught another 63cm cod on cheese that night but turned that one loose.
It looked so cool, watching you in that creek Robbie, we’re going through the heat here in WA and it’s shocking for us 🥵. But anyway a nice quiet wade in the creek and a couple of Snakes perfect day for a fisherman/ herpetologist like you mate! 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you picked up the fly rod. Peacock wooly buggers, chernobyl ants, renagades, caddis dries, choronamid (spelling?) Pupa, cp nymphs, all great flies to try! Remember trout have soft mouths. It's about being quick not striking hard. Different with yellow bellies and perch.
Robbie, you said you were out of form, but apart from the early misses, your casting in the narrow corridor with blackberry left and right of you was excellent. Was interesting to see the tree canopy hasn't recovered after the fires years ago. It'll take decades of regrowth.
Thanks so much mate. It's amazing how the bush recovers. I find it goes through stages. First the shrubs underneath grow back really densely, and then as the tree canopy slowly recovers, it chokes the light which thins out the underground. Nature is amazing.
Hello Robbie! My almost 7 year old is watching you at the moment which reminded me to contact you. I said we might be able to say hello to you here and he said “and maybe he could go fishing with me” 😊 I said I think he might be too busy for that. So we are saying hello in the hopes you might be able to say hello back (his name is Henry).
At least you brought a rod even if it wasn't the one you thought! Its probably worth going up there in summer to get away from the heat if nothing else
Good video mate. Can you show us a video using a live grasshopper or leaf-walker? There’s heaps at the front of Coles in the early morning. Can you also show us more of the action/physics of casting a fly? Cheers mate.
Hey Glen, thanks for the great suggestions. I've had a couple of people ask if I can film a grasshopper video. I will do my best, but I'm unsure how I will go catching them. I'm not as agile as I once was. LOL 😂
Wow, that is small water! Be nice to know what gear you are running. 3 wt or 4 wt? Line spec? Leader? I noticed on an earlier vid...Venom rods! Nice! I run a 3wt Sage for my little water fishing...but it still works in Tassie on those Browns! Just run a 4lb leader! Nothing like getting a Trout! Love em.
Thanks mate, I love trout too and am constantly blocking the "anti trout" brigade from using my platforms to push their green agendas. I was using a 4wt rod with 5wt line and 5lb Maxima leader.
Try a smaller dry fly. #10? Wow, that’s like whacking at a finish nail with a sledge. For these small fish I wouldn’t use much bigger than a #14, and 16-20 my go-to. Use a parachute version for better visibility. There wouldn’t be so many misses, because a young fish strikes at smaller prey with less caution and more confidence, rather than just swiping at it. My favored parachute dry after 60 years is the Purple Haze, basically a parachute Adam’s with a purple body. Also get some Orvis or Frog’s Fanny fly drying powder to quickly dry a well dunked fly. Then treat it with gel floatant. It saves the bugger of trying to cast air dry in tight creek environs. 😉
Nice session. Do u ever use bow’n’arrpw casts for those tighter spaces? Fwiw I have started striking on those tighter river smaller fish by pay pulling the line by hand, not lifting the rod. Also what size hook were you using?
Thanks mate. I have used the bow and arrow cast but I need to practice it. I'm not very good at it. Haha I call that Strip Striking, that's how I strike Murray cod when I'm fly fishing. I must try it on the trout. I'm not sure exactly what size the hooks were mate, but I'm pretty sure the Royal Stimulator was size 10.
@ strip striking, I’ll have to remember that. Size 10th is waaaaaay too big for that kinda stream; 16/18 is the go. Hard to tell by that video but it seemed like you were casting up the centre (armchair critic here) when it looked like hot mid day when the bigger ones would be hiding under those edges. Sorry to tell you how to suck eggs as I get how hard it is casting in a tight envelope like that (take that 2wt next time! Love the smaller creeks and use a 1wt or a 3wtglass rod. Loving your videos, and only just learnt you write in papers/mags etc? You should link those . Stay well.
Hey Robbie what's your thoughts on bfs fishing? Hahahha kidding I saw your comment on starlos post after watching that definitely not something for me I'll stick to spin lol Great session with the fly rod
Haha thanks mate. One day I will try it, but to be honest unless someone sends me an outfit to use I can't see myself spending a fortune on BFS gear solely to make a video that won't recover the cost. Then again... I've done that before. Haha 😂😂😂😂
Because we're fisherman and not Greenies. Trout were voted the most popular species of freshwater fish 2 years in a row. The more trout we have the better.
Hey Robbe, sooo frustrating watching you wet your hands and losing fish all the time lol. Can’t you take even your kayak net and touch it to your belt or something to keep the fish wet? Then you can pick it up and take a photo with your wet hand ha ha love your videos though mate.
Fish or no fish Robbie.
The scenery is spectacular Mate.
Good to see you doing some fly fishing Robbie, such a beautiful fish trout.
If I had the time and money, this is where I would be, to relax and enjoy life. You take us to our happy place Robbie. ✌
Thanks so much mate. I'm so thankful to live so close to such amazing areas.
Awesome mate 👍👍👍👍👍 white lipped snake was awesome too 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Cam. A new species for me, I was so happy to see it.

Take care mate
Thank you so much Catherine. Bless you. 🙏
Well done Catherine, i too like to fill my time on dialysis with UA-cam, Robbie definitely helps with that last hour of mine. 👍🏼👍🏼
Brings back great memories as always, thanks for taking us trout fishing mate, dunno what it is about them but trout are amazing
Thanks so much mate, I agree. I just love my time up in the hills chasing trout.

Thanks so much Wayne. I actually done OK, I only caught a handful trees. Some days are good and some are utter carnage. LOL 😂😂
That water is absolutely gin clear in the slow spots! No wonder it was tough going at the start. Well done Robbie cheers mate
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Awesome video Robbie! I've never seen a white lip snake. Beautiful animal. Have a good day mate. Cheers 👍
Thanks so much mate, that was a first for me also.
such pretty fish. i love me a small creek on the fly rod. Cheers. thanks for sharing your day.
Thanks mate, so do I. It's a wonderful form of fishing.
Pre covid used to go up to Perisher, amazing fly territory. Unfortunately no time for me this season but fingers crossed haha
Some beaut fish Robbie, just love the environment you have to fish in!
Thanks Frank, so do I mate. My heart is definitely in the high country.
Thank you Robbie
Excellent video love the colours of trout.
The snake was interesting never seen one before
Thanks Pete, neither had I. I have a full video coming out dedicated to that snake. 👍👍

Hi Sam, WOW that is so awesome. Well done mate. Murray cod are beautiful eating fish.
Beautiful waters again. Let's a person know they truly are blessed.
Thanks mate, you are not wrong. I really am blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world.
Once ya got your eye they came in think and fast nice mate cheers
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Bush looks great!
It sure does, thanks to the December rain. 👍👍
It looked so cool, watching you in that creek Robbie, we’re going through the heat here in WA and it’s shocking for us 🥵. But anyway a nice quiet wade in the creek and a couple of Snakes perfect day for a fisherman/ herpetologist like you mate! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much Kev. We haven't had an excessively hot summer for a few years now and that suits me fine. I don't handle the heat very well. 👍
Thanks for the great tips mate. 👍👍
Lookin' good!
Thanks UF.
Hey Robbie When fishing the other day I jumped off a log thinking my legs were steel springs. Turned out they were wet spaghetti.🤣
Oh no, that doesn't sound good. Are you OK?
Great Video Robbie 👍
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Ripper of a video Robbie, I was wondering what your pb brown trout is and what the biggest one you have seen in person is? Have a good week mate
Thanks mate. I'm honestly not sure what the biggest one that I have seen in person is, but the biggest I have caught is 68cm.
Wow, that’s a monster
I know exactly how you feel mate.. I’m September 1975
Still getting out there just a little slower & more cautious like yourself 👍
Haha this aging process is a bit overrated isn't it. LOL
Good video mate some nice fish
Thanks so much Catherine.

Hi mate, that is so cool. "Hello Henry, I hope you're enjoying your school holidays and doing lots of fishing mate". 👍👍
Thank you so much Robbie! Henry was ecstatic to receive your message! 😊
At least you brought a rod even if it wasn't the one you thought! Its probably worth going up there in summer to get away from the heat if nothing else
Thanks mate, you're not wrong. It's always cooler and a bit more refreshing up there.

Hey Robbie, lake Eppalock has been stocked with over 20000 Murray cod, lake Eppalock kayak fishing part 2 When ?
Hi mate, I must get over there again some day.
At least you remembered a fly rod Robbie
Haha even if it was the wrong one. LOL 😂
Great enjoyable video! But 1080p in this quality? Wish it would be more crisp!
Thanks mate. I would rather film at 4k/60 but I just don't have the editing power.
👍👍👍👍👍🫶.Cool Video
Thanks mate. 👍👍

Hey Robbie trout are introduced fish so not native so how come you are allowed to put them back?
Because we're fisherman and not Greenies. Trout were voted the most popular species of freshwater fish 2 years in a row. The more trout we have the better.
