Thank you!👍
Top tip: Loosen the middle nut slightly also, so when you're removing the springs and the middle nut its a lot easier and wont spin the shaft
Man, y’all are awesome!!! I ordered my set from y’all, and with the help of this video took me 1 hour. My car feels like a cloud.
Really thought this was going to be much difficult but it seems simpler than I thought. Thanks! Gonna tackle this job myself.
Just replaced mine. Easy job, just make sure you have a good breaker bar and a good torque wrench. My driver’s side spring had given up and driving was unsafe. Car ride is now 100% better, just a little firmer than with OEM parts, but solved my problem. Shop wanted 1,100 dollars for the job. I paid under 170 for the parts and 30 minutes of my time
+dr bichat Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
What brand did u buy ?
@@dsanchez1113 Only use Monroe OEM. $170 for a pair coil over struts means they are junk.
Thank you for this tutorial. We just did this a few days ago and it wasn't too difficult. VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Jack up both sides of the front of the car and it will give you maximum clearance to remove the old and put in the new strut. It took us nearly 1.5 hours to get the first one but once we figured out that we had to jack up the front, the next one took only 15 mins.

Came here to find out how to access the top bolts. This is quality material! Great work!
Thank you for including all the torque specs for the strut assembly top hat and the knuckle. 👋🏼
Wow this looks surprisingly easy. And the camera angles are perfect for seeing everything. I’m gonna try it myself. Do I need to do a wheel alignment after this?
I ordered the TRQ front struts for the coupe and it was great and i had gotten then from AM auto For a little cheaper than the trq site. By $75 dollars , thanks for the kits, I already bought the rearward spring shock kit from trq and it works great , and oem control arms for the rear . everything is aced at trq i only shop here cause i know they know how to actually look at what they manufactured
Hello thank you for the awesome video! I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but I discovered you could rotate the the strut to align the lower bolts after you secure it in to the top portion of the job. I thought I was sold the wrong parts because it was not aligning initially. Hopefully this makes sense and helps someone out. THANKS AGAIN!!

I just did my struts today on my 06 Civic thanks to this video.
Pleas need a answer when doing these bolts for the strut do I all ways pull up to loosen it
Hi thank you so much for the video so well explain. Are you sure i don’t need an alignement after this job ? Thanks again
Thanks, just followed these directions for an easy swap on my civic!
This 9 minute video will take you hours 😂😂
Is it hard to do?
Front struts not a lot of work , the back shocks tho be lucky if the bolt that goes across doesn’t get stuck cause you’ll be struggling if you don’t have the tools or know people
No way, got it done in about 45- 50 minutes! Power tools are your friend!
The best video and includes torque value. 👍
Thanks for this very good quality video. Did the front brakes on my Civic today and noticed the boots on the struts were torn quite badly on both sides. (77,000 km.) Seems they are not very sturdy. Wouldn't this cause premature failure due to dirt entering the mechanism ? Are there better quality replacement boots available?
+Stan Coleshill Thanks for watching! The boot is what prevents dirt and debris from getting into the strut, so if it is torn up pretty good then yes it can cause failure. We do not carry the boots by themselves, but I would probably recommend you replace the struts if you are experiencing ride issues. 1aauto.com
Aren't you supposed to torque the top hat nuts once the wheel is back on the ground and the suspension is under load?
If you mean the 3 small bolts...yes, at least I do.
If you mean the center bolt...no.
Parts just came in, can’t wait to try this myself.
Really like your entire series of videos- have used many many many to fix replace parts on my 06 Civic with almost 290k miles!
1 question- how come you never apply an anti-seize product to help with future disassembly? Here in the rust belt (OH) I slather it on and still break bolts a year later!!
I have an 06 Civic coupe MT, bought it off the lot in December 2005, also in Ohio, also with high miles nearing 275k. I use anti-seize and thread lock on everything that won't negatively affect torque values (and some that might taking great care to be within +/- 5% factory spec).
I always start to treat bolts and nuts for an upcoming repair or part swap with PB blaster a week before on a daily basis. Haven't needed anything more than a breaker bar for a single thing in nearly 15 years working in it! This includes big chassis bolts for suspension work, exhaust, and many of the tight subframe bolts.
+yourfinaldecree Thanks for the feedback!
@@1AAuto I felt the need to augment my posted comment... The process of a week's worth of daily to multiple times daily treatment with penetrating oil/rust penetrant has worked for every single bolt in my car SANS THE LOWER REAR SHOCK BOLTS THAT SERIOUSLY POOP THE BED. I guess after having swapped out over $1650 in parts, including the complete front suspension inclusive (both sides for everything before and after), front pads and rotors, outer+inner tie rod ends, replaced boots on rack and inner tie rod end to rack interface area, rear hub and bearing, complete rear drum brakes replacement including all the hardware and shoes, special rust resistant drums, rear shocks (hatehatehatehate), upstream and downstream O2 (just upstream needed replaced, but downstream was only a little more to get both on sale so why not, NGK laser iridium plugs.
I did all of this myself, and the most complex thing I had ever done to a/my car before this episode was an exhaust and cold air intake many, many years ago. The videos helped along with a Chilton and the other one I have. Of I got stuck, seeing it done to the actual parts in real time was a great asset, but trying to figure it out first is the best way to learn your car, to learn why a part is the way it is!
I have a 2008 Honda Civic coupe and wanted to install KYB struts, will the KYB accommodate the original springs on the car?
You missed one step of aligning top mount Arrow to the front of the car to put shock properly aligned.
This would be the same on the coupe right?
+Parker Bronson The part in this video fits your application, and the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Hey yall, so im lowering my 2010 Honda insight with some eibach pro lowering springs. A few questions A) can I use wd-40? and B) will I need an alignment done after? Its gonna be about an 1 inch drop
Yes to both
Thank you I used this video I was able to get done quick. Great video
If i change both of these i have the same car a 8th gen civic will it affect the alignment ? I was kinda confused when he said if you change the bolts it wont mess with the alignment
All your videos are extremely well done
+Rob James Thank you!
Wait, why did you take the strut off in the first place?
The one in there came out by gravity the one I have I'm trying to pry it out cuz I assume all the bumps that my car ate through caused the housing to fold a bit
I'm guessing to replace the front top hats I would need to do this method and pull the entire assembly out?
Yes you do
Are struts and chamber the same ?y mechanic said the chamber is worn out
1a auto what brand is that torque wrench that you use on this video can you let me know thankzz just order the struts for my hinda says it should be here in 4 days
+Gerardo Diaz The same wrench in this video can be purchased here: www.1aauto.com/torque-wrench/i/1axaa00044
The dust boots are shot on my civic. Can I replace them or do I have to switch out the whole strut?
I’m about to order this part for my 2008 Honda Civic. Wish me luck.
How did it go?
Hey there, I am having trouble lining up the strut with the wheel housing, the cv joint doesn't allow me to move the housing into the strut. any ideas?
You don’t have to compress the control arm before tightening fully,?
YES. Lower the vehicle to the ground allowing it's full weight to press down before tightening or torquing the upper bolts. This video will get you in trouble. It is not correct.
I need new struts but they say after to do a alignment but you said not needed ?
meant ot say, in my previous post.. going to NEED.
you made this look easy, thanks, gota do it now on mine..........
Coupe setup same as sedan in front? Edit: yes just did it
Just a little tip: There's a little round cap on the plastic cowl that you can pop off to have easier access to that rear top nut, especially when reinstalling it. Just move the windshield wiper to get to the plastic cap.
What brand did you use for replacement?
+east los Thanks for checking us out. Shop for high quality auto parts on 1AAuto.com:

If those bolts don’t affect the wheel alignment why does it need realigned?
If you go to a lowering spring or coil overs it will but no standard struts.
Do you absolutely need a pivoting ratchet wrench to remove top strut bolts?
thaik56 not really, but it helps in general
Pull the cowl off, it takes minutes and allows easy access to the top bolts. Yes you need to pull the wipers off too.
This is the same for a coupe right?
+Nando El Barber We don't have a how-to video for the coupe specifically, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. This video was done on a sedan.
Do u need alignment after doing this?
+Patrick Gonzales You should get the vehicle aligned after performing the repair
@@1AAuto how soon after? I don’t think my mechanic is equipped for that. But I definitely can take it to the place where I got the wheels and tires at
Wow. That easy. Thank you!!
+Cons Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Excellent video.
Your doing your viewers a tremendous disservice with this video. NEVER, EVER tighten and torque those upper bolts until the vehicle is down on the ground with it's full weight pressing down on the tires. Also be very careful to Not allow the CV Joint to become disconnected. Wire it in place if needed.
Would a shop be willing to take your new strut and attach the spring to it after you have taken the old one out? What would they charge- like 1/2 hour to an hour in labor? This job looks pretty straightforward other than that part.
Not worth it. Buy a quickstrut which is complete. If your going to invest your time and money, do the job right. Your springs are worn out too if the struts are bad.
An FYI. If you buy aftermarket Strut Assembly, like a "KYB Strut-Plus Assembly", you're going to be an apparatus to retract the spring in order to align the two bolts. Was disappointed after all the work with removing the OEM part on the car. Good Luck!!
Thank you guys, great guidance 🤘🏼👊🏼👍🏼
the rubber boots on the struts of my son's '12 civic are all shreaded. I cannot see any oil seeping out. He has 105,000 miles on it and the front end seems stiff. When should I replace these struts?
What should we do if the top bolt is rusted?
What’s the torque the center strut nut ?
Does it matter which way nut goes in on bottom part of strut?
+TheSeriousBoy We would recommend the way shown in the video and/or how it was in on the old strut
Does this work for the coupe as well?
# TACO same thing yes
Sorry didn't buy the parts from 1A auto lol but thanks for the video!!
currently have Monroe struts on my 09 civic and they pop and make a terrible groaning/rubbing sound, trying the unity set. 🤞🤞
+deminybs Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
good vid quick and to the point
Would this work on a 06 civic si coupe ?
We currently do not have an auto repair video specific to your vehicle. You might be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. +Salomon Meza
Yes. Torque spec are different.
Looks good but video should have been shown without the lift that most people dont have
+java mochafrap Thanks for the feedback!
Why my hub is so low when trying to refit my front shock? Theres not enough room for it to fit cant get the 2 bolts back in
Jack up under brake
i am having the same issue, how did you take care of it?
@@breakfastenjoyer Place a floor jack under the knuckle on the control arm and adjust up or down to what you need.
After I replaced the strust, when I accelerate on the car the front starts vibrating pretty bad 😢 anyone had to do a wheel alignment?
Nice video, but you didn't mention anything about the arrow that is on top of the mount. Can you tell me in wich direction it should point? Hope you can tell me!
+peter hendriks The upper mounts will only install one way due to the bolt spacing, so the arrow will always point in the same direction, which is inboard for this vehicle.
Thanks for your answer, could it be that it is different on a 2010 civic hybrid? on my car the arrows are pointed towards the front. On the internet I hear also that they have to point towards the fender and some say that they have to point towards each other. I'm really confused!
@@1AAuto I checked the bolt spacing on the Monroe RoadMatic strut assemblies and the bolt spacing is all 3.75 inches. And the 8th gen civic forms are arguing about whether the arrow faces the fender or towards eachother. And since the bearing plate rotates freely I can't just assume one or the other. Help!
I came here to see the new one go in.
Whom ever that car belongs to is going to be in real shock when they find out nothing was done 🤣🤣😏😏
+marcin szalajko Thanks for watching. Luckily this is our own vehicle, so that's okay! 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto I figured it would be I just made a comment because I thought it was funny how a swap turned into a not but it was definitely educational for me. I am subscribed to your channel for a long time now and always refer to 1aauto vids if I don't know something. I also buy parts from you guys so don't take my smartass comment to the heart I was just being sarcastic. Keep up the good work 🤘🤘
Bwahaha!
You should mention why you should not remove the spring and instead just buy the whole assembly. Do not remove the spring. It's dangerous and can kill you if not done with the proper tools and should probably be done by a pro. Good video 👍
+Vicente Agama Thanks for the feedback!
Should also mention that most "whole assemblies" are trash unless you spend a lot of money on them.
Why is it that every UA-cam car is perfect, I can’t even fit a torque wrench in the top of the strut
Pull the cowl off. It takes minutes and makes the job much easier. Yes, you need to pull the wiper arms too.
Wait Where’s that lady?
Yeah what they don't tell you is that they've already loosened everything prior to the video
Why is every video on Honda Civic struts a driver's side only, is that because the r/f is more difficult, it seems odd to me that every one is driver's side only, what's up with that?
Lmaooooo I didn’t notice. Possible that one always wears out? Mine is shot. It’s completely leaking.
Good video except for the “ up talking”. Ended up just shutting the audio off.
If you live somewhere upstate where they salt your roads good luck doing this or ANYTHING on your car 😭
should i be concerned about the strut “blowing up”on me?
it's that easy?? damn now i wish they werent so expensive
+Q_Wreh They don't have to be! Please check our own struts that we sell for this application on our website: www.1aauto.com/2006-11-honda-civic-strut-and-spring-assembly-pair/i/1assp01193?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&Kj69Ac
Lol 200 bucks is expensive for a civic. Should be 120 for both tops
They really aren't expensive, even for quality, and this is especially the case considering the entire assembly doesn't require anything else to install. (Although I usually grab new m14x1.5 57mm flange bolts and lock nuts for the attachment locations to the knuckle. The addition of some cam bolts to allow your alignment shop to adjust camber if necessary is also a sub-$20 option.)
I'm a fan of Gabriel and Monroe personally, but a friend bought a set from 1aauto, forget the brand, and they appeared to be quality parts and fit as well as the more expensive gabriels I had just installed and possessed a ride that was only very slightly less quiet than my own. If I hadn't known where they came from, I probably wouldn't have noticed!
EASY.
Are you serious, it's that easy to replace a strut and spring assembly?
Im over here in shock myself haha
@@skatakid117 I’m about to STRUT down to the auto parts store!
U dint show spring assembly😡
33ft lbs Top
67ft lbs Bottom
Please speak more clearly and/or add captions of key details
that's not changing, that's just only showing how to removed 🤦🏼♂️
Rewatch the video with a little patience. He clearly reinstalled. Great video!
The video shows both the removal and re-installation. Thanks for watching! +M Sya

Is this the same proces as the SI sedan model?
