  • 4Pockets Surface Builder - Tutorial 1: Getting Started
    apps.apple.com...
    Surface Builder is a tool for creating control surfaces that send MIDI data to one or more audio components in order to simplify remote control tasks. You start by creating a surface of a given size, adding buttons, knobs, faders, etc. to the surface and configuring them to generate the required MIDI output. Surface Builder allows you to send note on/off, controller change and program change values as well as being able to emulate modulation wheel and pitch bend data. Buttons can also be configured to send bulk MIDI data using a single key press. You can build surfaces that span multiple scenes and link between them for large complex interfaces.
    Incoming MIDI data can also be used to control or trigger elements of the interface, giving a bi-directional stream of MIDI data.
    Surface Builder can be added as a pure MIDI plugin which allows processing of MIDI only, or as an instrument plugin, allowing you to process audio passing through it. You can even load it as an intrument and configure a surface to start and stop audio clips either manuall or remotelv.
    Surface Builder was designed to be used as an AUv3 plugin within your favourite DAW, but it can also be used in standalone to send
    MIDI directly to MIDI hardware using direct access to their MIDI ports
    Many different object types are supported including buttons, switches, lights, rotary knobs, faders, sliders, XY-Pad, keyboards, as well as text, image and box objects. Each object has many different styles and colours, so no two surfaces look the same.
    Drag and drop an audio file onto a button and that button becomes a clip player. Attach rotary knobs to control the clips volume and pan. Throw on top of that a LP/HP filter knob and you are cooking on gas. Drop PNG transparent image icons on buttons to customise the look and feel.
    A button can record and playback bulk MIDI commands, on both button press and release. So pressing a button could send the notes of a chord when pressed, and appropriate note offs on release.
    A surface can consist of up to 6 scenes for really complex designs. Buttons and switches can be used to switch scenes and also to show and hide other objects to make better use of screen space. Once your surface is complete switch to presentation mode to hide all the toolbars. Each surface can be saved with compressed audio and images all in a single surface file.

    This is just like what NuRack is, if I’m right but in midi form. 4pockets should do a drum sequencer or make DigiStix into midi. We do have our lives ahead of us so by that time 4pockets will have everything you could think of

    This looks epic. As a guitarist using an iPad live, this is a dream come true. And actually something I contacted Paul about, thank you for listening ❤ This will be a gamecharger for me and drastically lessen the need for any tap dancing to switch FX for songs and sections. Epic!!!

    Super Cool! Paul has provided a powerful toolkit for us to build what we need.. Genius..
    I’m sure everyone has wished that they had a specific layout of buttons, sliders etc… to help with performing their music.. this will definitely fill that need.. and once we’ve built something, it would be cool to share with others.. it would be extremely handy if surfaces could be shared on patchstorage.. all of a sudden this one app becomes many surfaces.. that’s exciting..
    Thanks for the intro tutorial Leo.. I’ll be watching to see what you end up building.. I would absolutely love to win this..

    Great demo. I grabbed this today and already tried a few things, and these are great examples. I'm very interested to see how a button can record bulk MIDI commands. It would be very helpful to record those from a session instead of having to program in each command on each button. Note: I don't see Chord Strip or Stepper object in my version.

    Cool demo, thanks! Looks very powerful. How do you feel this compares with Loopy Pro as a surface controller?

    • @soundformore
      @soundformore  Рік тому +1

      This gives you more control to the surface and midi for now… Loopy Pro is far ahead at controlling loops and audio clips but it was built for that… I have been pushing for a more advanced midi implementation for Loopy Pro and it is in the roadmap…

    • @chris6442
      @chris6442 Рік тому +1

    • @chris6442
      @chris6442 Рік тому +1

      @@soundformore As far as I know, the midi loop feature is first and more DAW functionality in general. So it could take a year or more until more OSC comes in.
