It’s a good rendition of this great song. But I prefer the Brel version in French and the one by Dusty Springfield in English. This doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the great talent on display here.
I heard this song for the first time the day I went to my mom's funeral. She loved Glen Campbell. The song randomly appeared on my radio as I was on my way to the cemetery. I still believe my mother sent this to me
There's a place deep inside my heart/my soul/my inner being that only Glen Campbell can touch. I never knew it before he passed because I didn't pay that close attention to him or his music. It's not that didn't like him. I could sing along with all his hits, but I, a collector of vinyl, never bought one. After his passing, I came here to UA-cam to pay my respects and found a treasure trove of Glen Campbell performances. Within a couple of days, I was changed. No one moves me like he does, whether it's a ballad that breaks your heart or a guitar solo that thrills every nerve ending in your body, whether it's fast or slow, serious or funny, his own hit or a cover -- Glen's my all-time favorite performer, and I didn't know it until August of 2017.
Just listened to all the performances of this song here on UA-cam … and we might as well just say it … NOBODY does it better than Glen! … He's SO underrated as a singer.
To me this is the best vocal delivery. Other artists contort their voices to put a fake emotion in it. Glen's voice comes thru like all his songs really, very sincerely. Mr. Cambell was a very talented man.
As a 15 year old boy I heard this song. Lay on my bed thinking of the girl that didn't want me anymore. but now at 43 the song the voice. Of the legendary Mr campbell and how the passion. Rings in my ears.
Similar story for me as well,"Take my hand for a While" would repeat it self over and over in my head .After hearing that song by Glen ,I bouhgt every album I could find of his.
I think that Glen was maybe the best interpreter of songs that America ever had. Unbelievable singer and accomplished guitarist. Arrangements by producer Al DeLory were also outstanding.
This is not an easy song to cover... and here's this guy who just takes the song and makes it his. Gosh. The more I hear Glen, the more I want to hear him.
This video encouraged me to buy this song on Amazon. And I only bought one other song before. Jerry reed's rendition of Early Morning Rain. He sang it the best. ua-cam.com/video/CRU65M_h-eI/v-deo.html
I remember hearing this song first when I was 5 in our old Honda van, and my dad had a large collection of cassette tapes because the car had a cassette player. One was a Glen Campbell tape. This song started playing and it suddenly woke me from a nap I was having in the car. I loved it so much. I never thought that 15 years later, I’d find the song again. It helped me get through a dark place that I was in a few years ago. I owe my thanks to Glen.
Donna Schnaath .....where have you been? He was among the best. I enjoyed his show with my family when the networks aired wonderful family shows. Not today’s crap we see on T.V.
Oh yes Donna, He was talented when he was 5 years old I believe learning to play the guitar. He is the best singer, best guitarist and has a great range in his vocals. He also sings them with such feeling it touched my soul and still does.
I think people recognized Glen Campbell’s versatility and skill with his guitar. What I think deserves as much credit is the richness and clear tones of his vocals, majestically showcased in this song.
Glen Campbell was so talented. His guitar playing was extraordinary!!! You add his wonderful voice to it all and you have quite a delivery. Yes, I was kissed afew times by Glen because I was in the 1st row at a county fair & kept running back & forth to Glen for harmless kisses, but he was such a good sport. ❤️I would do it again, but walk a bit slower now! RIP to Glen Campbell, who brought some of the best written (Jimmy Webb) music, but sang by a man who played his heart out for his fans. Gone way too soon.
I believe you are the first viewer in the comment section that has been that physically close to Glen, & to be kissed by him; what a nice memory for you to cherish!! He is sorely missed. Thanks so much for watching!
As famous as he was, he still was very underrated. He was self effacing & professionally humble. Many people have no idea how talented and amazing Glen Campbell was. He simply pursued his craft and love of music? This is my very favorite version from all the superlative versions of this song! The greatest song of melancholy longing and devoted love. Thank you Jacques Brell & Rod McKuen.
He was so much more than what people often categorize him as...a country singer, Bullshit. this man was an artist of the highest degree in all kinds of popular music. Jimmy Web was the other half of the genius in writing this and mnay other high class songs.
Simply stunning. Feels more and more like a/the golden age of music passed when Glen left this earth. Looking around me now doesn`t look like it`s ever coming back...
This beautiful song was originally written in French, and the translation has a different meaning. I absolutely love glen Campbell! He was a studio artist, playing guitar for a lot of the famous 60's bands before they let him sing and play for us. He earned every bit of his fame by hard work and pure talent. His expertise with a guitar is phenomenal, even now. LOVE*******
Sorry it is Jacques Brel who wrote and performed it first. The French version is actually quite close to the English in tone, but more morose, more supplicant and painful.
God bless him and his family. My heart breaks knowing how much joy he has brought to millions of people around the world, then knowing that he soon will no longer be with us in this life. A talent such as his is rare and that a choice few have known. I grew up listening to his music, watching the tv shows, movies...at a time when music was such an importance in my life. His music, still today triggers memories from long ago, and brings out feelings from deep inside, from a place that makes me shake my head in wonder at it's ability to rattle my soul. His music will always remain with me, and i know his passing will bring tears, but Glen Campbell will always be "Gentle on my mind."
It's hard to believe that nearly four years have elapsed since Glen passed away. The man could sing the New York City phone book and evoke a response from his listener.
I originally found this video on UA-cam posted by another user. I have searched for that user again, but they no longer have a channel here that I can find. So, I cannot take credit for originally posting this, though I am very glad I re-posted it (especially in light of Glen’s passing). Based on many of your comments, it seems that those who haven’t listened to Glen's voice in awhile, or those who have never heard him sing before, are coming to understand that he was very much underrated as a singer. He should be remembered as more than just a guitar virtuoso, because he was a man of many talents. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and I am so sad at his passing. I sincerely hope some day in the near future we can find a cure for this disease.
It's so incredible that this man could be so talented as a guitar performer and also such a 1-derful singer, he was the complete package as an artist, may you Rest In Peace, Glen Campbell, you brought us great moments with your music, Thank You !
Glen sang emotions like no other. He is truly feeling through his voice. No other artist can come close to this. I didn’t know about him until after he passed. But a few years ago I fell in love with him and his music, and wish every day he was still here with us. Someday in heaven I’ll meet him and I can’t wait for that day. No other artist speaks to my soul like he does. His music is my kindred spirit.❤️
Dad introduced your music to me Glen and I grew up with the sound of your voice filling our house. Now I pass it onto my son who is a gifted guitarist singer songwriter for the future. You and dad are both gone on your journeys and how will I ever forget...with tears in my eyes I send my love to you both XX
I just came across this clip. The death of Glen hits me just as hard today as it did then. We lost a true talent. I still miss him. I've always liked this song...thanks for posting...RIP Glen ♥
Glenn has left us today August8,2017! What can we all say but Goodbye Cowboy,Good Ride! Big ploppy, splashy tears I'm giving you! Thanks for posting this the music of all our great will never die!!!
The greatest singer and entertainer ever...this song has nearly torn my heart in two, too many times...but I play it for it makes me think of "her." So bitter-sweet! God bless this great mans work forever.
Timeless talent. His music lives on. I go back in time whenever I listen to his singing. He's as fresh in my memories now as when I was young. Pushing 81 years of age now. A perfect interpretation...
Never really listened much to Glenn Campbell but I love this song and found this version . I think he sings it better than anyone else. Surprised me. May he Rest In Peace
I can't believe he died it's so sad to see great talent and such passion die away and fade but u will be remembered in the hearts and minds of those who loved u and Ur music....RIP Glen Campbell
I didn't know he passed away three years ago. I bought this record more than thirty years ago in Melbourne Australia and I was enchanted. Now I cannot listen to my record, but thanks to you, I feel the same sentiment when I listen to him. Glen sings beautifully and I love his diction. Thank you for posting. RIP!
The loss of this great voice and a man that could sing in a style that was only his. Whether a love song or singing about a city like "Huston " he was in command of his audience. He will be sorely missed.
Every time I see another clip of Glen Campbell, my administration grows. He was and is a giant talent. His voice is pure, and his guitar playing is right up there with the best of the best. This was heavenly, thank you, I've liked and subscribed.
Glen was so much more than the label given him "Country singer/guitarist." He was the consummate musician and singer. The definition of all styles, superior singer and musicianship. He often said in interviews he never thought of himself strictly as a one genre musician. he did everything, even the Beach Boys.
A beautiful and romantic song. Glen Campbell was so talented. What wonderful musical expression bringing back the memories of long ago. Yet still freehly recalled since the memories live on forever.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I'm glad it showed up again in my suggestions. I discovered it two years when my dearest father departed this world. Gosh it's beautiful. What a genius.
I just saw this video for the first time. I'd never heard this song before. My god what a beautiful song and perfect voice for it. Always loved glens voice but wow. Thanks so much for posting. RIP glen. Thanks 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I have always loved Glen Campbell and his songs whether they be original or covers. What a talent, I loved hearing this, also his cover of The Last Time I Saw Her (my favourite Gordon Lightfoot song). His voice is recognisable, guitar playing amazing and his work timeless. Thanks for posting this classic beautiful song.
Who is listening in 2024. What a talent, gone far too soon.
He touches every heartstring
He’s still one of my all time favorites 👍🏻🙂
It’s a good rendition of this great song. But I prefer the Brel version in French and the one by Dusty Springfield in English. This doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the great talent on display here.
@@Tuxon86 Glen’s version is mellow and heartfelt. If you enjoy the dramatic try Eartha Kitt. Hers is WOW!
Glen Campbell was THE MAN, now I realize why my mom loved him so much!
I heard this song for the first time the day I went to my mom's funeral. She loved Glen Campbell. The song randomly appeared on my radio as I was on my way to the cemetery. I still believe my mother sent this to me
It was not random dear one. It was your Mom ❤
Who else but Glen Campbell could breath such life into this Jacques Brel classic. Wow man ! Glen was a master of his craft.
There's a place deep inside my heart/my soul/my inner being that only Glen Campbell can touch. I never knew it before he passed because I didn't pay that close attention to him or his music. It's not that didn't like him. I could sing along with all his hits, but I, a collector of vinyl, never bought one. You expressed my feelings..exactly. Thank you.
same thing happened to me and its August 2021
Same as me. I've recently known this brilliant artist one month ago. His musics hook me. I watch him every nights
that voice and those looks wow he was smooth!
I agree , Glen was astounding !
No one sing this song better than Glen Campbell he is the best .
He does a great job but I have say Terry Jacks version is pretty awesome ❤
I feel just like the following comments of 360 my experience of getting to know Glen was almost identical. I can’t believe it it took me so long!
'missing Glen in 2021!
And now in 2024.
Glen Campbell was the ultimate Ballard singer . I discovered how much I loved his music in the eighties .
And his last album was awesome .
Glen Campbell was Magic
I'm crying. I miss him. this song means so much to most of us.
@Rachel Krieger_Yes, yes, yes....The one and only Glen Campbell. 😊
Just listened to all the performances of this song here on UA-cam … and we might as well just say it … NOBODY does it better than Glen! … He's SO underrated as a singer.
How could anyone describe such a world-class and world-famous singer as "under-rated"? It must be the most over-used word on UA-cam.
My gosh ,,I agree ,but what a wonderful song. An honour for any one to work on this song by Brel
To me this is the best vocal delivery. Other artists contort their voices to put a fake emotion in it. Glen's voice comes thru like all his songs really, very sincerely. Mr. Cambell was a very talented man.
Matt Monro is the one who convey emotion in this song then i ever heard.
That he was!!!
As a 15 year old boy I heard this song. Lay on my bed thinking of the girl that didn't want me anymore. but now at 43 the song the voice. Of the legendary Mr campbell and how the passion. Rings in my ears.

Absolute Ledgend! Befor anyone there was Glen Campbell. R.I.P to a big part of my childhood.

@charliekucharski20, you absolutely nailed it all the way around! Interpreter‼️Thank you for all your heartfelt performances, Glen.
Thank goodness he left a great legacy of music. You cannot be forgotten, Glen Campbell....!
Fantastic, just fantastic. It's a very sad song and i have been there a time or two in my 75 years. I found my love and we have been married 40 years.
This is not an easy song to cover... and here's this guy who just takes the song and makes it his. Gosh. The more I hear Glen, the more I want to hear him.
It feels so personal and heartfelt when he sings-as if he speaks from his heart. A true soulful artist.
Awww Glen I wish you had not gone away. RIP 🕊🕊🕊💔💔😪
My father sang this song, sounded like glen.brought tears to my eyes.
Glen Campbell was my very first musical crush when I was 13. I learned this song on the piano and sang it at my middle school talent night.
There'll never be another Glen Campbell. R.I.P. Glen.
This is by FAR the best rendition of this song! This man made some BEAUTIFUL music;
This video encouraged me to buy this song on Amazon. And I only bought one other song before. Jerry reed's rendition of Early Morning Rain. He sang it the best.

Damned if I didn't forget how REALLY good this song is and how well Glen sang it. Made my eyes tear up.
I can listen to this song singing by him a thousand times

My mother and I would watch his tv show back in the day. We thought he was so handsome and of course that voice....miss him.
I love the way Glen sings this song so beautiful and so much feeling, God bless you Glen.
He always sang with feeling. That is what drew me to him and his beautiful voice as well. I always felt the songs deep in my soul.

Glen could sing everything excellently with heart and soul which is what made him special. You felt what he was singing.
I'm so glad I got to see Glen in concert. It was a great night.
The greatest singer and entertainer ever...this song has nearly torn my heart in two, too many times...but I play it for it makes me think of "her." So bitter-sweet! God bless this great mans work forever.
I love this song and all the songs on this album I used to listen to in 1970
What an absolutely beautiful song sung by the best! Thank you for being Glen Campbell.
Glen's vocal performance of this great classic is very moving. Rest his musical soul.
I have heard practically every version of this song and this is by far the best!!!
Timeless talent. His music lives on. I go back in time whenever I listen to his singing. He's as fresh in my memories now as when I was young. Pushing 81 years of age now. A perfect interpretation...
This Song was on my mind all night at work, good old UA-cam scores again! Great version of this tune I remembered from my childhood.
Glen could sing any song and this one makes me fall in love with him all over again.
Unbelievably good. Campbell at his best. What a wonderful heartfelt emotional rendition and my favorite of all the many singers who recorded this.

Such a beautiful rendition, second to none on our side, Mr. Brel should be very touched and wished that they meet in the other world.
RIP!
Bj Thomas and glen both sang together, r.I.p. to both really great national treasures, thanks for easing our troubles guys :)
Doesn't get any better than this ,a talent that will never be seen again RIP Glen
The loss of this great voice and a man that could sing in a style that was only his. Whether a love song or singing about a city like "Huston " he was in command of his audience. He will be sorely missed.
A Iconic & extraordinary Beautiful Voice ..Such as we will not know again....R.I.P ....

RIP Glen Campbell. Never got to appreciate any of your music until the last couple years. It is a treasure.
This is such a good version, the best thanks Glen a great talent RIP.
I am sure there people out there who troll beautiful music video's , just to vote them down, they must live in a dark depressing world....
Thanks for the memory. Gone but never forgotten.

Beautiful song - and so handsome Glen Campbell!! He was so talented.
Wonderful rendition! Always loved his voice and inflections...
Oh my goodness, I have loved his voice all my life and put it on this song......
It reminds me of his variety show. Thank you
Truly beautiful rendition from one of the most emotive, evocative voices in the business. Such a sad loss.

He was wonderful on the Lightfoot songs. Great renditions.
