  • This is the swing arm bearing replacement on a 1988 Honda FourTrax 300. This would be the same procedure for all models of the 300 fourtrax's. #ad

    I've watched a couple of your swingarm videos and was a bit intimidated removing one yesterday. But it was super easy!

      Yes they are pretty easy to get off. Getting the bearings out can be a little tougher

      @@FourwheelerDoctorI have the hex bolts back in. Tightened the left side and am trying to Tighten the right side evenly, there's still an 1/8th gap between the arm and frame. Any tips on evening it out to be flush on both sides? I don't have a lock nut tool and I didn't replace the bearings or anything. Just switched out a junkyard rear-end for the original because seals went bad in the differential

    Mine went bad and shifted the swing arm and broke the swing arm . Had to use a ratchet strap to hold it in its pivot to get out of the woods

    Your videos are very informative and detailed, which I truly appreciate! Thanks!!! ....but if a person doesn't have access to a welder, what would be the best alternative to pulling that bearing???

    • @FourwheelerDoctor
      @FourwheelerDoctor  Рік тому +2

      That's tough. I've always been curious how Honda says to replace these and it seems like one time I looked in the manual to see and there's not clear directions on how to do it. If you do not have a welder the only other option would be to cut it out with a small cutting wheel like one of the heavy duty wheels on a drimmel. It may be pretty time consuming since these races are hardened. But it will work and I have done it before.

    My bigbear the threads were backwards, are the TRX300 threads normal? Got a little loose, maybe I just need to tighten a little

  • @gabe5360
    @gabe5360 2 роки тому +1

    So as far as the locking collar goes, can you not just leave the collar on the pin while you have that side out, then re tighten both the pin and the collar at the same time? That way you don’t need that special tool?

    • @FourwheelerDoctor
      @FourwheelerDoctor  2 роки тому +2

      You could do that if you're using the same bearings but if you replace the swingarm bearings there's a chance that they may be different thicknesses or the races sit different than the original ones did which would require you to move the locking collar.

    • @jamesbowes6979
      @jamesbowes6979 2 роки тому +3

      You need to set the preload on the pin before you torque the lock nut. If you were to tighten the pin with the lock nut in the same position you wouldn’t be able to guarantee the pin was set to the correct torque.

    • @FourwheelerDoctor
      @FourwheelerDoctor  2 роки тому +1

      In my experience they are tighter than my impact would get off. Especially the left side bolt.

    • @FourwheelerDoctor
      @FourwheelerDoctor  3 роки тому

      I'm pretty sure those are different. I can't say I've ever pulled the swing arm off of one but considering the way the front suspension is on it, I would guess the rear is different than this 300 fourtrax.

      If you have a pipe or I take off my jack handle and use it as leverage over the ratchet. My 2-ft breaker bar would not crack these loose but with the jack handle on there it did.
