Any rugby player could play in the NFL but most NFL players wouldn’t handle rugby. You have to be fit to run 80min no stops in between plays. Rugby you play offence and defence. Football was made from rugby because rugby was too hard for the yanks back in the day.

There was a thing a while back where some NFL players came over to the UK and had 2 games against a team of Rugby players, the first game consisted of regular NFL rules, including the padding, and the second game consisted of the Rugby rules, where the NFL team pulled out halfway through because they were complaining that the Rugby players were tackling too hard
NFL and Rugby are 2 wildly different games based purely on the men that play them

Absolutely agree, run soft you make yourself a target for the big hits. At least if you’re running hard into the tackle you choose impact speed and for the most part the tacklers will slow down before the collision.

Rugby players are super athletes, they Sprint, tackle and do physical set-pieces for 2x45 minute halfs. No offensive or defnsive teams, just one team to do both jobs. No 2 minute gameplays separated by adverts, just constant gameplay. No time-out to discuss plays, its all preplaned plays done in practice and thinking on your feet. I watch football(soccer) religiously but Rugby, to me, is the greatest sport.

Loved your reaction, hope you get into rugby more and learn how it is played, it is one of the greatest games in the world. So many different running and tackling skills needed, ball skills, so strategic and tactical, hard and tough and fast. Got to be tough, fit, skillful and smart. And there is a position for every body type, big and small. Great game. Good reaction guys.

i don’t think NFL players would be fit enough to play rugby at first purely because in the NFL there is a lot of stops during play whereas things like football(soccor) and rugby require you to be running constantly for around 80/90 minutes with only small breaks for half time

  • @nox6885
    @nox6885 Рік тому +17

Great review. Most if not all international rugby players can make it in the NFL. They would have to be coached obviously, but in terms of tackling, awareness, (stamina, which is not really an American football prerequisite because of the amount of time NFL players are o the field and other skill sets, rugby players can play NFL and flourish.
American football as exciting as it is, plays come from the coaches, where is in rugby, you have moves you practice but generally all players are making split decisions

Couldn't agree more. NFL is more stop and start. 1 game, 4 quarters (1hr) can sometimes last 2hrs or more ... Rugby is just continuous pretty much (ofc there are stoppages)

I'm sorry, but this is a bit of a silly statement. NFL and Rugby are very very different games and the skills from one do not easily transfer to the other with the possible exceptions of kicking/punting. Two seconds on google will show you that very few have managed it, which given the multi-million dollar contracts NFL players can earn, if your statement was true - why are there only a handful of people who ever successfully switched over? Rugby players do NOT make good NFL players and vice versa - enjoy each for the sport they play but stop pretending that Rugby players have anything like the skills needed for NFL.. NFL players have extremely defined skill sets and if they get anything the tiniest bit wrong, there are an army of umpires and referees waiting to penalise the tiniest infraction losing your whole team yardage or possibly the match. Equally NFL players have neither the stamina or mental acuity to improvise a constantly evolving game such as Rugby. Let each play what they're good at and enjoy both sports for what they are.

  • @OfficialPVNI
    @OfficialPVNI Рік тому +2

The difference of skill is that NFL players train for one specific position, rugby players train to be able to adapt to every situation and every position. Their builds are versatile, being both fast and strong. And let’s not forget that they do it for 80 minutes straight with a 5-10 minute half time break.

played rugby15 years, along side and against a few internationals, also American football. Rugby way more fun, every player runs the ball, tackles, passes, kicks (though some shouldn't), no restrictive pads and helmet, so much more freedom of movement. basically a combination of keep away and kill the man with the ball. smashing a dude with no pads on is soooooo satisfying. you best be ready to run your ass off for 60-80 minutes as there are no timeouts or coming off after 5-6 runs 'cause you need a blow. play on. keep on watchin' gents. thanks.

South Africa (Springboks) vs New Zealand (All Blacks) is about as good as rugby gets. Hyper competitive, both teams hate losing to each other and are typically pretty evenly matched. The two best rugby playing nations in the world. All Blacks are historically slightly more tactical and cerebral in their approach, (imo) but you have to play that way to beat the Spingboks because the boks are the biggest, toughest and hardest players alive with speed and skill to match. These two nations play the hardest most committed rugby in the world against each other. I'd recommend doing some reactions to some of their games.

Im much better at Football (soccer) but I played Rugby at school too. I was a Fly Half, which is I guess kind of like the Quarter back in NFL, except its maybe more about kicking instead of long passing.
You pass/distribute possession of the ball with kicking if you are going for a long pass/play, and with more hand based passing at short/medium distances, and you tend to dictate the shape of the Play your team has with possession of the ball, the Fly half is the playmaker
I was a Back (a Fly Half is a "Back") which tend to be the faster more agile guys (Full back, Scrum Half, Fly half, Centers and Wingers are the backs). So my job on the pitch was less Tackling based than Forwards (the really big guys in the "Pack", like Blockers in NFL) and more about evading tackles and stringing play together.
I liked playing the game, but I much preferred and was better , at Football (I play WInger/Number10 in football, again play maker positions commonly, where Skill, Technicality, speed and agility are important, Strength and power less so)
    Rugby is organised chaos.
Its quite an all round game in many ways. All the Backs have to be strong as well as fast and skill full, and all the Forwards need to be fairly quick and agile enough in order to tackle fast agile players, as well as being man mountains that are so big when they tackle you , you stay tackled LMAO
I was not really built naturally so much for it. Although I am tall now (6'2") I was tiny for my age at school so was usually one of the smallest on the pitch. I was good at stepping and evading tackles, but I was not quick enough with reading play (like I am in Football) where I could improvise well on the fly. Its such a chaotic sport I really think if you play as a Flay Half , Scrum Half or Center, you HAVE to become ultra comfortable with the reading of the game because open play can be so dynamic.
I personally think I should have played Center , although I was a good kicker due to football, its not the same in Rugby and I think I played better at Center because the Kicking was less of a thing and I could concentrate far more on position and explosive running, making my reading better. But then I started kicking a Football when I was 2/3 years old and playing at school when I was 4/5 Years old, where as Rugby I played at 11 years old onwards. When you start something that young it feels very natural(football) and then start something later (rugby) it felt clunky for me by comparison.
    Both great games.
I would say Rugby is one of the best Sports to watch for people who have never watched it before. Although there are loads of rules, the general flow of the game is very simple, and pitch territory matters.
The teams meet in the middle and create a very defined focal point of the game and it is obvious even to people who have never watched it, when one team has clearly breached that line, and therefore have a scoring chance.
Football(soccer) is in a way a little more indirect in some ways to an untrained eye, as the Pitch territory is more zones than a clearly defined line of 2 teams, so in Football, dangerous positions are less obvious sometimes.
In Rugby the danger is about territory , and the cohesiveness of the attacking/defensive lines, these are VERY visual things

It's a great game and better than NFL plus Rugby is played all over the world, so when they say world Championship It's a world Championship, NFL is only a American Championship nothing else, most Players are over 6 foot and have 200 lbs plus, there are no time outs and only a halftime break, and everyone can score a TRY in the team, the TRY counts only when the ball is placed behind the line not just carried over does it count, some Players wear ear protection It's optional, you should watch the Ladys play Rugby It's just as hard as the men of course hair pulling is illegal but it happens, it's like pulling the guard on the helmet, so ENJOY a Real game ware they are always running, and just getting enough money to live.

My perspective: no criticism of NFL players but I think because they're padded up, wear helmets and stuff, they feel protected and are more willing to go for head to head clashes which can cause brain injury and neck and spine injuries. Don't get me wrong, rugby players suffer those too but you'll never see rugby players deliberatly smash heads together.

3:48 Thats a Try in Rugby, akin to a touchdown in the NFL. Main difference being the player in rugby has to Ground the ball while in control where as in the NFL the player merely has to cross the line while in control..... Different animals completely.

Awesome vid!!. Check out some of the legendary hard men of rugby "The original enforcer: Bakies Botha" or "Rugby's biggest thugs" with the likes of Eben Etzebeth, Martin Johnson etc. The kind of players everyone loves to hate but you love them if they play for your side!!

Rugby players can play NFL but to me it will be hard adjust to the playstyle and also NFL players have a specific role to play whereas in rugby they also have specific roles but you should be a well rounded player coz you play both defense and offense just my opinion

Regarding rugby players playing in NFL and vice versa. Not all rugby players could play NFL and not all NFL players could play rugby. I’d say every international rugby players would walk into an NFL team but this represents a very small group of the very large pool of rugby players. Beyond this there’s a lot of non-capped pro rugby players who could also make it in the NFL. My opinion is that more rugby players could make it in the NFL than NFL players in rugby for two reasons. Fitness and intelligence. Rugby players are 20 stone, fast as hell, and run for 80 minutes straight. Doubt many gridiron athletes could do that. Internationals are as fast and strong as NFL players, and the top NFL players would be fit enough to play rugby. Two very very different sports, which is why very few players swap to the other sport with any real success.

Why does the field (pitch) look so wide?
Because it is some 25 yards wider than a football field.
It's hard to find a stadium in the US that has enough room to put a decent pitch. Length is a problem in stadiums world wide too.
In Goals can be up to 22 meters deep (usually around 10). Why so deep?
What happens to an NFL team's medium passing game when they are close? A deep in goal allows attacking options when you're in close.

i grew up in New Zealand so yo uplayed rugby like when youa re 5 yrs old lol. You get injured some people know how to land and move better than otehrs and fall better than otehrs. Like theres certain peopel that get injured liek Dan Cartter non stop because of the way he runs is a bit awkward, that gets him injured. But then theres weird peopel that never get injured lol. when you are a forward you RUN...for 80 minutes ...literally thats all you do is RUN and tackle for 80 minutes every game lol.

What’s up bro! Ay aight soo I played for the first time and took my program from a no name to what it is today and teams be looking at the purple and black of gcu a bit different. Few went pro I chose to get my career going becuz you can’t make a high quality living like most pro athletes… it’s kinda wack. A few of the boys play pro 7s and it’s the best of the best (most of these clips are 7s) 7on7 the size of a football field. And the best steps and tackles reacting to the season wouldn’t be bad.. premier sevens and the HBSC. Which is the world sevens circuit and pro league for both! The highest level right now.

I too have played rugby tackles ar3 nothing if u get scared that's when you get hurt , I broke many bones and had to play on I was scrumhalf like when we have a scrum I try getting the ball 1 guy trapped on my hands both pinky fingers broke all my dad did was strap it with your ring finger and u go play on , because my dad played too so his generation played with injuries up until they retired my dad nose is skew to this day he broke it in the 80's and he refused to fix it I was forced to retire from the sport when I was 16 years old , but if given a chance I will go play again , unlike NFL rugby has no breaks you play until the whistle blows and the ref is the boss on the field . In cape town we have 9 leagues which has 15 teams in each league each team has hundreds of players ready to play , my dad say 80 minutes of rugby you go to war against your friends in rugby look after a game the honour 1 gets after playing the sport

  • @Morgana0x

I think you should ask whether NFL players could play rugby because I would say the answer is no. In American football they pause the game every few minutes and the players can catch a breath, but rugby is non-stop. American football players wouldn't have the stamina to be able to play like that.

Yeah the field is Big, but the 15 dudes in front of you make it seems really small.
As for injuries one of the most proeminents might be the good old ruptured acl and concussions, a fair share of freak bones breaking, dislocated joints and all that comes with contact sports. Worst year i can remember, might be 2014, we had a third of the 40 to 45 players benched for injuries, getting your two teams staffed for sunday play gets touchy.
