also, for people wondering why they don’t actually make anti-piracy screens scary or intimidating, it would actually encourage piracy as everyone would be pirating games in order to see the cool scary screens. i’ve seen so many people asking why no one actually uses these kind of scary screens so i figured i’d give an explanation from a functional standpoint

Your kids can finally play the game that they wanted to play so badly. Christmas morning, your kids are playing their game. You lay down in your bed, finally relieved that you got the game. An hour later, your young kids run to you screaming and crying, and you walk out into your living room just to see an absolutely cursed and horrifying version of the beloved Princess Peach.

fun fact: the whirring sound is the Wii, it happens if the disc stops spinning or the fans are making weird sounds. this causes the game to freeze until you restart your Wii.

It can't be the disc stopping or fans malfunctioning because it plays through the speakers. The real reason why the sound plays is due to the audio hardware repeating whatever chunk of audio it was going to play before the system crashed.
