French Bread (makes 2 large loaves)
Dissolve 1 Tbsp. dry active yeast and 1-1/2 cups warm water together in a small bowl.
Meanwhile, combine in a large bowl:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. oil
Then, pour in yeast/water blend and mix well. The dough will be very stiff, but that's ok. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes, then stir it up again using a big, wooden spoon in a pulling motion. Repeat this process 5 more times until one complete hour has passed.
Grease two baking sheets and set aside. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and divide into two equal pieces. Roll each piece out into an oval shape using a rolling pin and additional flour if needed. Beginning on the longest side, roll the dough into a loaf. Then, pinch the seam and the tapered ends. Place dough on the baking sheet, seam side down. Slice 1/4" to 1/2" long diagonal slashes 4 times on the top of each loaf. Set loaves aside in a warm place and allow to rise for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for 25 minutes until loaves are a golden brown. Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, slice, and enjoy!!!
Note: You can also make 12 rolls instead of the loaves!!

BREAD LOOKS DELICIOUS WATCHED
love recipe I myself would one mix the yeast sugar and water in big bowl ( the main bowl you will mix the bread dough ) =reason i hate dishes lol ... and I find feeding my yeast with sugar helps me make better product . let sit till yeast proofs meanwhile mix the flour salt oil etc in another bowl slowly incorporate flour into proofed yeast then after rolling up and sealing dough i would take and dip my finger tip make dough slightly damp and pinch seal it .. just like one would do with homemade pie crust I Was taught this by my granny I am one who ends up having trouble with my pie crust at times tearing so the water trick really helps !
I love making homemade bread . I make bread at Christmas and give it and jam that I canned as Christmas gifts. People love that better than store bought gifts .
Thank you for doing these videos. I know they're a lot of work and probably a pain in the neck to your family, but they are very helpful to some of us. We appreciate you and your family's hard work!
Thank you for that, Cheri! I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment something sweet. :)

I always wanted to know how to make French bread. Thank you for sharing this with us.
As I said before, you make me think so much of my Southern Iowa and Missouri cousins. Of course, that makes me feel like you're a cousin too. Love you and your videos.
I would love to be an honorary cousin!! Thanks for the super-sweet comment! 💕
Abigail is so adorable
She is such a joy! 💕
Hi Ozark family My husband and I are attempting to make this meal of the homemade French bread and the lasagna soup I'm trying to make a half batch of the lasagna soup so I'm hoping it turns out because I know even a half batch will be eating leftovers for quite a while with it and then with the French bread I'm planning on making a hole recipe and then freezing some of it like you said because we'll never be able to eat a whole loaf let alone too in one sitting. We really enjoy watching you and think your kids are very well-mannered and helpful and it's refreshing because they seem to not have the attitude that most kids their age have today so I hope you guys are having a good day and hopefully Sean is feeling better from his kidney stones Love from Monica and Heath
Hi Monica! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a kind comment. I hope your meal turned out amazing! I bet you did have a decent amount of leftovers if you're just feeding the two of you. Please know that your sweet words about my children were appreciated. You definitely made me smile! :)
Wonderful bread, wonderful video!😊
Thank you so much, Sheila!! :)
She did a great job yummy to the tummy
Had to made your bread again.. Glad the post is still up. Great recipe!! I just misplaced it!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video! I absolutely love the way you explain and demonstrate so simply and SLOWLY! You make me think for the first time in my life I might actually be able to bake homemade bread! Thank you so much and it looks delicious!
Oh, I believe you can do it, Bonnie! :)
Abigail’s smile, lights up,the room!
Shawn loves history. You and your daughters are fast learners on baking breads. I have French HUGUENOT in my family. A family, not related to me as far as I know at this time has a very important history. They baked their Bible in the homemade bread. It will be interesting for your family to know that. God Bless.
They had to hide it.
Very neat story, Mae! Thanks for sharing it! :)
Great tip about using a plastic lid for the salt jar! I bet a lot of people wouldn't have thought about the salt corroding the metal lids. The French bread looks wonderful!
You make bread like I do, the old fashioned way too. Simple recipe, Janice be blessed from VA 🙏
I'm always drawn to the old-fashioned ways, Deborah. Maybe I'm just nostalgic...😁
I have never tried making bread, other than using the bread machine. I will have to try this recipe.
Im gonna keep sharing ur videos, hopefully you will get more subscribers. Love from AZ-US ❤😊
Thank you. ❤❤❤
Love how organized and structured you are. I look forward to trying the recipe this weekend.
Thank you Janice for that tutorial on your French bread. I’m definitely going to try it. We just may have the lazagna soup along with the French bread. It looked really good!
Loving this family and their family dynamics.
Cannot wait to try this recipe!😊
I've never seen a back of the sink set up like your amazing ! I love it 😍
Thanks! I know most people have a lovely window over their kitchen sink, but mine doesn't. It felt wrong just looking at a blank wall while doing dishes, so this was the best solution I could come up with! :)
It's extremely inspiring.... Mine is at an angle window to the left cupboards above dish washer on the right the catty corner sink with big voided space behind it is bugging me a lot I love the straight look... We deal with what we have ...
Nice recipe I've not seen this process before either.
Can't wait to try this! ❤ love from Maine
🎶🎵Janice 🎵🎶I’m 🤓DEFINITELY Making 🥖👈🏻This Bread Recipe ,,, Along With 🎶🎵Sarah’s Lasagna 🥣Soup ,,, I’m 🤓EXCITED 2 Make Both Recipes ❕THANKYOU 📣
Yay!!! I just know you're going to love them both! 😁
I used to make French bread several times a year. I always used an egg white glaze on the tops before baking. It makes the loaves a bit browner with a shiny crust.
Yummy. I love making bread. My husband likes to eat it right out of the oven. I like it cooled. Plus it slices better when it has cooled down. Im not really a bread eater but once in a while I dive in. Lol
The bread looks so delicious ! It is wonderful that it makes enough for two meals!
I mix and knead all of my breads with my hands and without the aid of mixer or bread machine. I love hand kneading as it is so therapeutic to me. I make regular bread, Italian bread and sourdough but I have never made French. Some days, I literally mix the dry and wet ingredients with my bare hands and other days I use a wooden spoon.
Actually have not gotten to watch the actual video but I will later today.
Thank you for sharing.
Looks so yummy!
Can't wait to try this thank you
