I show you how you can improve your TOEFL score in only 1 week of preparation. I scored 115 in the TOEFL test after 1 week. In this week I studied as effectively as I could to get the most out of my TOEFL preparation. When studying for the TOEFL test I realized that the key to getting a high TOEFL score is the right strategy. English language skills are not enough, you need to understand the test format! I talk about my strategies for each task in the TOEFL: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing - and I show you how you can improve your TOEFL score in only 1 week using these strategies.
CORRECTION: In the video I say that there are 4 task types in TOEFL Listening, but I wanted to say 2 task types, sorry! I corrected it in the summary.

TOEFL TEST FORMAT
If you want to improve your TOEFL score you must understand the TOEFL test format. Every task of the TOEFL test has its own format. The more you stick to this answer pattern, the higher will be your TOEFL score. You will also have more time because you will not need to think about how to answer the questions during the TOEFL. This means that you can focus on the task at hand which will automatically improve your TOEFL score.
1) READING
To improve your score in TOEFL Reading, you need a reading strategy to answer the questions quickly and correctly. First, scan the passage. You need to know what it is about and you must have a rough idea of where certain information is located in this passage of TOEFL Reading. After that go to the first question and understand what it asks you to do. Since you have scanned the passage before you will roughly know where you can find the information in the passage. Go there and read it again but now in detail. You must use this information to answer the TOEFL questions correctly. For this reason you must know the question types in TOEFL Reading.
2) LISTENING
You must know the types of tasks of TOEFL Listening because you will get specific questions. Therefore, knowing the task types in TOEFL Listening will improve your TOEFL score considerably. Further, you need to take good notes. You will not have much time, therefore only write down keywords, abbreviate them and use symbols. Moreover, you need to know the question types that can appear in TOEFL Listening. This will improve your TOEFL Listening score immediately.
3) SPEAKING
To improve your score in TOEFL Speaking you first need to know the types of speaking tasks. Second, you must use the right structure in your answers. If your answers are structured correctly, ETS will give you the points. There is an easy way to structure your answers correctly: use templates. If you like have a look at the template I created for TOEFL Speaking, you can find the link below. If you want to improve your TOEFL Speaking score considerably you should use linking words such as ‘further’ or ‘moreover’. They give you structure and make things you say clearer.
4) WRITING
To improve your score in TOEFL Writing you must know the two types of tasks: the integrated essay and the independent essay. For each essay in TOEFL Writing you must use a specific structure. The reader will only understand your ideas if you structure them correctly. If you want to improve your TOEFL Writing score massively you should use linking words. They help you structuring your essays, they make your writing clearer and they show that you know a lot of vocabulary.
FYI
The examples I use in the video and in the summary are made up by me.

So many thanks Yuva.youve been a great help to me
Thank you Juva, your classes are fantastic!
Hi Juva! Thank you so much for sharing great pieces of advices.
Hi Gustavo, you are so welcome! I'm so glad this is helpful to you :)
Hi Juva! Just coming back here after my TOEFL test to thank you for you classes! I started my 1 week prep for TOEFL with this video hahahaha and thanks to your guides, I was able to score 115 on TOEFL! I was lucky because I took the test 2 weeks before the new model so I had plenty of materials too! I was fairly confident on my English skills but after the test I was able to understand how important are the strategies and templates for each section, and without you probably my grade would be much lower! Thank you very much!!!
Hi, I am taking the test soon and I am very nervous! How hard did you find the test? And how much time was you studying before taking the test?
Hi! So, for me, the main concern was the speaking section, so in the preparation week I did around 17 speaking tests on yt hahaha, and 2 full simulation classes. The thing is that in this short time, it is really hard to learn more English, so focus on learning about test strategies and templates for the sections, which will leverage your grade in a much more significative way than trying to take grammar classes. Hope it is helpful! 😅
Congratulations! That's amazing, you can be so proud of yourself. I'm so glad I could help 😀.
Thank you for the tips! How was you feeling about the limited time in the test? Was it hard to do all the questions, write the essay and prepare an answer in speaking section in the short time?@@joaopedroalonsoalmeida3448

Can you please recommend where i can practice reading?
Glad it helped! I can highly recommend the free ETS Practice Test :)
Hi Juva! Thank you so much for the videos. This looks like a very well thought out plan. I will definitely use your videos while preparing for the TOEFL. I have a question though: How much time should I spend preparing for the exam? I have roughly two to three weeks to prepare and I was planning on spending approximately 3-4 hours/day studying (I would dedicate more but I am also preparing for a German language exam). Would this be a realistic scenario?
Hi Alexandru, I'm so glad you like it 😀. For how much time you need to prepare depends on your current level of English and the score you need. 3-4 hours day sounds realistic, it's a good amount of time to practice, but also not too much, which would be stressful in the end. Hope this helps!
Excellent as always ♥️
Thank you so much Ammoula
Added to watch it later. Love react so I will finish watching it sooner.

I registered for the TOEFL of August 28, and I am feeling as I don't have enough time to improve my score from an average of 85 to 100+,. I will now create a timetaable to see as many as possible of your videos, and I will comeback here after receiving my results :p
Hey Khaoula, so great that you are going to take the TOEFL! You can absolutely do this, you just need to figure out what you need to work on. If you have any questions while studying, just put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them. I'd love to hear about your results :).

You're so welcome! Are you referring to the TOEFL Essentials test?
thank you for you videos Juva, I’m taking Toefl in 3 weeks. I watched all of you videos and write notes and templates on the side. How do you recommend me exercise now? to dedicate days for specific topic or to solve all kind of topics (reading, speaking, etc…) daily?
So great that you're going to take the TOEFL! At the beginning I'd recommend focusing on each topic because it might take some time to understand everything. Once you get more familiar with the tasks, you may want to mix them. Hope this helps :).
My exam is next Sunday! That’s one week left! What coincident! Your videos are so useful, Wish me luck Please 🙏 🌸

I had two days to prepare for my TOEFL. All your tips and templates have been incredibly helpful. I kept hearing your voice in my head during the test haha! I actually just came back from my TOEFL and my score for reading was 27 and for listening 29. I am very excited for the results of speaking and writing because they went incredibly well. Again, if I didn't had your templates I couldn't have done it. Thank you very much and keep the good work going! :D

Heyy Juva, I am superr grateful and super excited to share my scoress !! The entire prep was from your channel, and the templates you provided with key words were the bestt :)
Moreover your confidence in teaching, tips and tricks along with how to approach a question is what made me achieve this score. Listening = 27/30
Speaking = 26/30

Thank you Juva, I am so nervous about the writing and speaking session. My exam is this Saturday and next week Monday. Please, what do you suggest I do? Thank you
Hi Asadu, being nervous is totally normal, so don't worry about that. Make sure that you are well-prepared and then go confidently into the TOEFL. You can do this!!
Hi Juva, I hope everything´s good. I had a question regarding to the hardware of TOEFL iBT (special home edition). The thing is that when u do the TOEFL iBT in an institution they make u use an American keyboard (which keep in mind that their symbols are placed in different parts of the keyboard compared to the Chilean keyboard for instance). So my question is that if you give the TOEFL home edition then you are free to choose any keyboard setting or you still have to use the American keyboard setting. Have a nice day and I hope u are able to read this comment and answer it. Thanks!
Hi Pizza, I'm fine thank you! I hope you are doing well too! As far as I remember you can use the keyboard layout of your country. They won't switch it to an American keyboard. But just to be sure I'd recommend contacting ETS and asking them. Hope this helps :)
My goodness, this is heaven!
Haha, I'm so glad you like it :).
Thank you so much Juva for the videos, I am really running on thin ice as I need to take the TOEFL in 10 days. I was wondering how much time should I devote each day to preparing for the exam, I know that the more the better but I was thinking as to how much would you recommend? Also, after how many days did you receive your results when you took the Home Edition?
Hi Mihai, I'm so glad you like it 😀. No worries, you can do this! I recommend this: First, figure out where your strengths and weaknesses are and focus on your weak areas. Then have a look at my TOEFL playlists and pick the videos you need. I recommend studying 1-2 hours per day for Reading/Listening and another 1-2 hours for Speaking/Writing. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them.
@@juva Hi again Juva! I literally just got my TOEFL results, 117/120 (R: 29, L:29, S:29, W:30). I didn't even manage to finish all of your TOEFL playlists. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your work
@@MihaiH-vu3zo Congratulations! That's amazing, you can be so proud of yourself. I'm so glad I could help 😀.
@@MihaiH-vu3zo I also need to take an exam in 10 days and your comment really motivated me. You should be proud of your score! I'm wondering if I can get 100+ score if my level is B1+/B2 (idk exactly). *What is your English level?*
Hi Juva. How many hours per day did you studied ? I need +100 to apply to Grad school, but in my training at home my highest score was 87. My reading score is ver low, the highest one was 19. However, I have been studies per months and I did not notice any improvement 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Brenda, I think your score does not depend so much on how many hours you study per day, but the way you study. Of course you have to put some time into studying, but you also need to make sure that you study effectively. Scoring 100+ is definitely a challenge, but don't worry, you can do this. I'd recommend the following:
1. Check whether you understand the test format.
2. Find your weak spots.
3. Focus on your weaknesses. If you like have a look at my playlists, you can find videos with tips for every part of the TOEFL there.
If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them. Does this help?
For the writing tasks in toefl home, do i write on Google document? Or is a specific app provided on the actual test? I was doing the practice test on ETS toefl website, and there's no place i can type my answer on screen.
In TOEFL Writing you type your answers in a specific app. If you take the TOEFL Home Edition it's the ETS Browser, if you take the TOEFL at a test center, it's a similar browser I guess.
For the reading task of the Toefl IBT (home edition), does the test point to the paragraph when the question refers to it, just like in the one practice test on the ETS website? Or do you have to go find it yourself?
Thanks for your videos! You've helped me tremendously for my preparations (I'm writing on Wednesday ahhhh)
Brandon, I'm so glad the videos were helpful to you! As far as I remember when I took the test the paragraphs were not pointed out, except for specific questions, such as vocabulary questions. Therefore it's important that you scan the passage first so that you know where the information is located in the passage. I wish you all the best for your test on Wednesday, you can do this!
@@juva Can I know when you have taken the test?

very interesting . Thank you, from Kinshasa
I'm so glad you like it 😀.
Hey juva,
I ‘m just wondering that, you said in reading section skim the paragraph and then after reading a qustn you will come to know about where the information is given in the passage BUT in TOEFL test, they already suggest you the paragraph and you just need to read that paragraph only right??
Hey Bansari, usually they do, so it won't take long to find the information. However, even if a passage is indicated it's good to know where exactly you can find the information in the passage and what it's generally about because then it will be a lot easier for you to figure out the answer quickly.
Thank you
I'm so glad you like it 😀.
okay juva i will do it
Awesome! :)
Hi Juva,
what was ur score in individual sections?
thanks Juva
I'm so glad you like it 😀.
Hey Juva. I have a small question. Whether we are allowed to have a headphone during the TOEFL home edition test for listening and speaking sections?
Hey Charlotte, you are not allowed to use headphones in the TOEFL Home Edition, you can use the speakers of your computer.
Hi Juva
Im preparing for Toefl. The difficulty of reading passages is the same with videos on UA-cam about reading section of Toefl?
Hi Elidjana, so great that you're going to take the TOEFL! I don't know which videos you were looking at, so I can't really say anything about them. I'd recommend checking out the free ETS practice test. This should give you a good impression of what the reading section in the TOEFL is like. Hope this helps :)
Hi Juva , I am really interested in your videos, they are amazing, please do not stop.
I have a question for you if you please could help me, I have taken the Toefl in 2016 and got 75. After a lot of efforts I did. Also I took toefl in 2019, and my score was 63. Now I need and must to take the toefl once more in one week( because i wants to apply for a scholarship and the deadline is 18 of December 2012) I am not well prepared what is your advice for me please
Hi Soroush, so great that you want to take the TOEFL! I'd recommend this: first, figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Have a look at my playlists for a general overview and then pick what you need. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them :).
Hi juva thank you so much for your support but I always try to focus on listing and all sections but my score are not improved could you please suggest me.
Hi Pratiksha, I'm so glad you like it here 😀. I recommend doing this: First, figure out where your weak spots are. Is it a particular task? Do you understand the question types? Then have a look at my TOEFL playlists and pick the videos you need. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them.
Thanks alot you are excellent
You are most welcome! :)
Hi Juva!!! Thank you so much for this video. I´m going to take the TOEFL IBT Test this month and your video is so helpful to me. However, I have a doubt about the scores. When I´m studying and practising the scores I can have in the reading section, for example, are 30 out of 45. But every section has a score range of 0-30. How can I deduce what score I have in that range? Or is it something that depends on the exam?
Hi Montse! I'm so glad you like the video :). So great that you are going to take the TOEFL! If you sum up your correct answers in TOEFL Reading you get your raw score. ETS then converts this raw score to a scaled score. ETS does not seem to have published their formula, so you can only guess your scaled score. I would do a rough estimate depending on whether you got only a few answers wrong or more. Hope this helps :)
@@juva Thank you so much for your answer, Juva. It helps me a lot. I will do my best to improve my raw score to have a good scaled score for ETS :)
@@montsecorral8590 I'm glad :). You can do this!
thank you ❤
I'm so glad you like it 😀.
Hi Juva. I have a question for you.
I took my TOEFL home edition a few months back and I got so surprised with my results. I had expected to score high on reading and low on speaking. But to my surprise, I scored 27 in speaking and just 16 in reading. Writing and listening I scored 22 and 23.
Now I am practising and plan to re-take the test late february, as I have already got conditional offers for three universities. Obviously, I need to get the reading score up especially :P ..
In this video, and others you've made, you mention this strategy you use on the reading section, whereas you want to scan the passage rather than reading them in detail. I did this, but in my test I also got questions where I had to choose sentences that best describe the WHOLE passage, those counted for two points. By doing this 'scanning' I simply ended up not having an understanding of the passage and probably chose wrong answers. Hope this make's sense.
So my question for you is, what would you recommend me focussing on and trying to do to improve my reading score for my next test?
Kind Regards.
Hi Dennis, congratulations for your scores, 27 in Speaking is amazing! TOEFL Reading is really hard, but you can definitely improve quickly if you know what to do. It's true that I recommend skimming the text, but only when you start with the passage. You need to read it in detail at some point because otherwise you cannot answer the questions. Therefore, I'd recommend the following:
1. Skim the passage to get a rough idea of where the information is located
2. Read the first question carefully
3. Go back to that part of the passage that is relevant for this question and read it in detail - since you skimmed the passage before you will know where you can find the information
4. Answer the question
5. Go on with the next question and repeat the whole procedure
If you do it like this, you should improve quickly. Hope this helps :)
@@juva Thank you for the reply, it sure helps. One thing I encountered as a big issue is that I have never studied biology, physics and history in English before. Only in Danish. And these subjects came up in the TOEFL reading section for me, which introduced words I have never seen or read before.. This probably made my general understanding even worse of the texts.. I now am in the situation where I feel like this is hard to improve.. But I've studied my bachelor in innovation and entrepreneurship partly in English, so to score 16/30 in reading really surprised me.. How would you recommend me to practise for the test further? I purchased the practise test for TOEFL but seems like It can only be 'done' one time. Kind regards!
Yeah same here... inform me if u find a solution...
Hi Juva. I am appearing for TOEFL for the second time in 10 days and I need a score of more than 100 this time as my first score was 86. Please If you give me some good peace of advise, I would be grateful to you 💕
Hi Mashal, I'd recommend this: Figure out where your strengths and weaknesses are. Ask yourself this: What did you find difficult when you took the TOEFL last time? Where do you think did you lose points? You already have a lot of experience with the TOEFL, so only focus on your weak spots. If it is TOEFL Reading, have a look at my videos about reading strategies and question types. If it is TOEFL Writing, practice writing essays and make sure that you include everything that gets you a high score. Have a look at my playlists and pick the videos you need. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them. Hope this helps :).
Hello Juva.
I would like to know how early should I register for the special home edition, and if adding the institution (university) I’m applying for is necessary since I am applying for different scholarships without knowing which institutions will accept me.
Thank you
Hello Jessica, I'd recommend registering as soon as possible because there may be more appointments available and you can pick the one you like. You can add an institution before taking the TOEFL or after that. If you do the latter, you have to pay extra to add an institution.
@@juva thank you for your helpful reply
I just registered for home edition as in my country the test center version isn’t available.
Since I don’t know the institutions yet I’m gonna have to add them later.
Thanks once again. 🤗
@@jessicabeca1234 You're most welcome Jessica! :)
For the reading section, Can I skip the process of scanning, and then read the question and then start answering?
I always end up by the time limit, and don`t have the chance to contemplate each question, that relates to the drop of my score. So basically, I need more time to answer my questions. Do you think I still need to scan the question before answering?
thank you for the tip videos. It helps me a lot.
Sure, you can go directly to the questions, read them, and then search for the information in the passage. Some people prefer scanning the passage first, others prefer starting with the questions. Do what makes you feel comfortable 😀
Hahaha I have been studying more than 3 months for toefl test and tomorrow is the day :) idk how people said that they got more than 80 😪 it’s not easy 😞
Good luck Martin! You can do this!
Hi juva, can you list us the types of questions?
Hi Salmane, have a look at my playlists, you can find videos about the different question types there :).
All throughout the video I was thinking 'where is the strategy (or strategies)'?
The idea is that every task in the TOEFL has a specific pattern. For example, in TOEFL Reading you always get the same question types. Thus, a good strategy to approach Reading is to study the question types and learn how to read efficiently. If you don't have much time to study, it's a good idea to focus on this for 1 or 2 days and then move on to the next task. Another example is TOEFL Writing. The structure and sentence starters of the integrated and independent essay are always the same. Hence, if you want to improve your score quickly, I recommend focusing on this for 1 or 2 days. Templates are very helpful here because they provide you with a broad range of vocabulary and the correct structure. I hope it's clear now 😀.
I have one week left for toefl which is on next Saturday. Wish me luck madam Juva ^^
Best of luck! You can do it :)
Hellow Juva now how can I make good practice for writing to sure that my spelling is good and speaking practice to confirm that my speaking skills is good ?
Hello Hassan, you should write several essays and check whether you satisfy all important points such as structure, vocabulary and so on. You may want to take my videos as an example. The same applies to speaking. Hope this helps :).
Ahhh I have 4 days left , and I didnt revise anything :( will this be good for someone who will start revising only 4 days before taking the test ?
Don't worry, you can do this! In this video I point out the most important points you need to know when you don't have much time for studying. Four days should be enough to understand the test format which is really important if you want to score high.
I am requested to take the TOFEL test within no more than 5 days. I am worried because it is my first time and I am a bit lost. Pray for me and advise me
So great that you want to take the TOEFL! No worries, you can do it! Have a look at my TOEFL playlists and pick the videos you need. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I'll be happy to answer them 😀.
@@juva Juva you are amazing. I have started watching your videos. They do help me and I can not thank you enough dear. Wish you all the best
hi jova , sorry if my questions are much, but i want to ask you when i listened to English movies or English interviews, i noticed there are a massive grammatical errors i mean i think there are didn't sticked to grammars when they speaks
Hi Marwa, don't worry! You can ask anything you like. When speaking English people often don't speak as they would write because it's much more informal. So sometimes you may think they didn't say a word because they abbreviated it in some way or simply spoke so fast that you couldn't hear it.
@@juva thank you juva for your kindness , well, it's hard to know what they say like word by word but i think i must get used with that . btw . again thanks for your time!

i started my Toefl preparation, i am not a native speaker, i am finding a lot of difficulty in integrated task, i cant take good notes from either passage and the lecturer claim. any tip to improve note taking, thanks
Hi 😀 The best way is to write down key words only. This saves time and allows you to concentrate on the lecture.
Hi Juva, can you make video about how to improve toefl score in 1 day? My exam is tomorrow 😭
Hi Rendy, I noted your wish, but I think it might be too late for you, if you are taking the exam today. I hope that the other videos were helpful to you and I wish you all the best for your TOEFL!
Hi,
What do you recommend for vocab?
I highly recommend using a linking word list and creating mind maps😀. Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/3D4wW-urIRs/v-deo.html
Many thanks for your quick reply ☺️
Gosh this videos are so helpful🥴🥴🥴
Glad you like them!
Does the passage still remain on the screen after the reading time elapse or are we allowed to go back to the passage?? Because in the pecatice test I have done the passage still remains on the screen.
I'm not sure which section you are referring to. Could you specify please?
@@juva sorry, I'm talking about the reading passage.
@@princessfreedah1908 No problem :).You have a certain amount of time to finish TOEFL Reading and during this time you can see the passage and you can also go back and forth between passages. Does this help?
