Requester here - thank you for the breakdown! You're definitely close on the sim city comparison. Not the type of game, but the role the track plays feels similar enough. it takes a backseat to the gameplay most of the time as you fight through and try to find the exit to the next level, but during downtime when there are no enemies it's very much the lead in holding your attention. I find it a great listen while working too for the same reason.
I thank you so much for this. For about 6 months last year I commented on every single post and video Atlus made saying something like "that's cool and all but it's not The Rain Formerly Known As Purple from the Risk of Rain 2 OST" and you have fulfilled my ambition
Dont forget how activating the boss fight increases the volume, and leaving the boss area drops off the bass and high notes and leaves you with a muted background track. Then stepping back into the boss area kicks the music back in at full force
For me goal of every run was to get to this stage and for the music. In some manner it signifies end better than the last round which is more about the end in ending. I could groove to this track forever. I love how this track has "talking instruments" where you can imagine the instruments as a voice, song. You can imagine it as a whimpering voice that grows to scream out and the feelibg of melancholy envelopes both. My comment about where this fits in the game: The game like said is about entering stage, emptying it of enemies and randomized loot so you can be as powerful as you can at end, if you even get there. There is more "expected" tracks for beginning but as gameplay goes it is same, but in very white and "heavenly" zone where backing by this track is striking, and with progression to last stage where the music also breaks convention for the "mellow" or strongly melancholic, it feels almost by purpose that your moment before the end is highlighted by strong energy that is brought down before the last boss. This is somewhat fitting as the game is about building yourself to be the best you can be, and depending on luck your "run" will have inverse difficulty curve, where the end is easier than start because you have essentially become a demigod, if luck has it. You can also essentially fly over the stage if you have enough speed, double jumps (sixtuple jump or whatnot) and other buffs. Other highlight to me when I played Risk of Rain 2 aside the rain is the fart. ...a glacier eventually farts is track in bonus stage that kills. Hearing the OST version is striking for it's usage of very known rain forest documentary as voice samples that are not in the game. "The nature here is vile and base"
the name of the song is a reference to Purple Rain by Prince. He changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol so people started calling him "the artist formerly known as prince"
@JinKay797 i think its just straight up a copy of purple rains riff. Which is awesome, since its so perfectly done, that even princes label doesnt seem to care. Im sure the artist formerly known as prince wouldve been flattered anyway.
It’s unreal how talented Chris is at making music, RoR 1/2 and Deadbolt are easily three of the best soundtracks I have ever heard from games. I would love to see more reactions to his music.
Nice seeing someone other than me acknowledging Deadbolt exist and is just as good as the Risk of Rain 1 & 2 OST (imo it's the best OST to any videogame)
Kinda had a feeling it would be rain formally known as purple I really would recommend con lentituda pedarosa along with your gonna need a bigger ukulele.
Lentitud poderosa. It means 'powerful slowness' in Spanish. I legit always thought the title was in Spanish cuz youtube tries to translate titles to phone settings quite often. So its actually titled in Spanish eh? Hmmm
@@supremebuffalo6322 I never knew that in Spanish in Latin it means "and thus it rained slowly" or something like that roughly but it is cool to know that
12:09 wow you got it bang on with the travel aspect, this song plays in the penultimate stage of the game where you find and activate a portal to get to the moon. I'm amazed, music truly is a language and yourself understood exactly what Chris Christodoulou set out to do with this track
The song itself is also a throwback to the first game's song 'Chanson d'Automne' which is used in the same level: the Sky Meadow. The little woodwind-sounding tune at 6:49 is a direct bit from it, and is referenced earlier in the track as well! Though in the first game the Sky Meadow is a second level variant, and the tune a bit more laid back and melancholy... While in Risk of Rain 2 it is the second-last main level before the final one!
It's also a throwback to the song "Purple Rain" by Prince, and the song title itself is a reference to both Purple Rain and the time Prince legally changed his name to The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.
The most beautiful thing about this song is that all this time Chris is preparing you for the climax of the song, adding each moving piece like a puzzles edge until we get to the explosive solo that ties up everything so beautifully. Even the back and forth between the Guitar and the Synth as well shifting the previously follow-up style of the guitar to the synths lead into the leading of the guitar with synth accents just makes this a wonderfully composed song.
the game is actually more of "survive an onslaught of alien creatures until you can find the teleporter that takes you to the next level". the level this track plays on is a large expansive meadow floating in the sky also the character in the image is holding a ukulele :)
Tonight I heard Purle Rain by Pierce. Immediately I tought about this soundtrack. RoR is not just a game, Its fricking art and the beat part is that you can experience it.
i love how the songs in this game have different sections with layers that get built up for all of them to come together in the end for a really amazing conclusion, it fits perfectly with the game it’s in where you’re on the clock at all times and the longer you take the harder the enemies you fight, there’s something amazing that happens when a piece of music perfectly displays the themes of the game it brings it to a whole different level
YOO! This whole OST is epic, Con Lentitud Poderosa was a daily listen for me a while back but this is amazing too, hope you like it. ...Anyway, day 83 of requesting House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Beautifully atmospheric track and one of my fave's from video games in general. It'd be awesome to hear what you think of it. It's the theme of a level set starting from a cathedral and ending in the crypts through lots of library areas, it's not a particularly significant or infamous level at all but I think the track really reflects the hallowed grounds housing sacred relics beautifully. The 4 minute upload from the Castlevania Sound Team is the one to listen to.
"This time I will not cry, this time I will not--" (6:35 happens) _starts crying_ (~7:20 mark) _cries even more_ (music's final, ~8:00) _sobbing_ Another great video Atlas, very insightful and interesting, making me appreciate these OSTs even more x)
The Expansion Pack for this game, Survivors Of The Void, has another hella groovy track called They Might As Well Be Dead. Despite the morbid name, it's another absolute banger with solid guitar lead in it. HIGHLY recommend.
Want to throw in a OST reaction recommendation. DRG (Deep Rock Galactic) has some real bangers! My two big track recommendations are "Attack of the Glyphids" and especially "Robot Getaway" Would be awesome if you could cover it someday^^
Chris has said he essentially copied and pasted the drums over and over because of the throwback to purple rain, where looping drum machines where used very frequently
he does not know about the electric guitars The joke is that there is an item in the game that is a direct reference to the prominent electric guitar usage in the whole soundtrack (ukelele - and his music was electric)
Can you react to Azhdaha's theme from genshin impact somewhere in the future? Its a pretty interesting blend of traditional chinese music and modern instruments.

@@AtlasBenighted Fun fact, the song's name is a reference to Purple Rain, and the song itself also has references to Purple Rain.
...And his music was electric.
...And so he left, with everything but his humanity.
..and so he left, with terrible power in shaking hands
..and so he left, more steel and circuit than man
...And so he left, grateful for his luck.
WHOS GONNA TELL him the guy is holding a ukulele
the name of the song is a reference to Purple Rain by Prince. He changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol so people started calling him "the artist formerly known as prince"
The pattern that starts from 5:08 itself is a reference to purple rain, very similar from what Prince does on his guitar
@JinKay797 i think its just straight up a copy of purple rains riff. Which is awesome, since its so perfectly done, that even princes label doesnt seem to care. Im sure the artist formerly known as prince wouldve been flattered anyway.

the dark souls ost holds a special place in my heart but ror easily has some of the best OSTs of all time

At $15 the dlc is just buying Chris's next album and then getting some awesome gameplay included.

To me, with gameplay, this song always feels like you're hopelessly lost on an adventure that'll never end, but not in a good way. Love it ^.^
Sounds like me accidently putting the teleporter on loop than to the moon
I recently got this game really loving it and it’s soundtrack
Tonight I heard Purle Rain by Pierce. Immediately I tought about this soundtrack. RoR is not just a game, Its fricking art and the beat part is that you can experience it.
