@@LetMeCook86 I agree it’s not great at long road trips, but it works well for 300-450 miles each way. A 20-30 minute top up to get you to the “pack and a half” distance. That’s my expectation, and for the price it can’t be beat.

I'm pretty impressed. However, I hope that GM addressed a heat pump instead of the heating element inside the Bolt. That is one detractor that would keep me from buying. My AC in my Bolt It's much more efficient than the heater, And I live in So Cal.

I have an Equinox AWD to test drive over the weekend, and it IS a very nice vehicle. Not as maneuverable as my Bolt, but it is significantly quicker in a straight line. Seats are better, and there is much more room in the back hatch area. Unfortunately, in order to get the features I want, I will have to move up to the RS or LT 3 speck level.

Man, your intro reads like one of the TSLA fan blogs. As an owner of two 25-year-old factory built Ford EVs, two 10+ year old Chevy Volts, and an 8-year-old Chevy Bolt EV, I can tell you that *all* of those "issues" were blown way out of proportion. People like to forget that out of nearly 150,000 Bolt EVs that were recalled, there were only about 20 documented fires. Still far too many, but for reference, that's actually *less* than the average number of EV fires per 100,000 vehicles and 75 times less than the average number of ICE fires per 100,000 vehicles. Ridiculous.

I don't like how far the headlights are tucked into the bumper. I bet they can't shine upwards very well. I ran into that problem with a 2005 Mustang. Driving at night sucked on the interstate, by the time I was close enough to overhead signs to read them, the headlights stopped illuminating them. You had to hope someone was behind you keeping the sign lit up for you. It's a small gripe, but one I remember well.

I'm concerned those low embedded headlights will accumulate snow in a snowstorm. They are basically a cavity just above the leading edge of the car, and those LED headlights are unlikely to generate enough heat to melt any snow that finds its way in there. If you happen to be driving in a blizzard at night, you might just find you have two reasons why you can't see where you're going... 😳😬

One thing you can do for all the cars you review -
Instead of just giving the cubic footage of storage space, why not get enough check-in sized bags to fill up the trunk/frunk with those bags? They give us viewers a more imaginable idea of the trunk.

Love this suggestion. Our Mach-E turned out to not have as useful of a cargo space as we originally thought, because of the low roofline. We still love the car, though. But I'd also like to see reviewers throw a few big 30" checked bags in the back to see how it works.
My wife is from another continent and when we fly over there to visit the in-laws, we have at least 3 big checked bags and 3 carryons plus a couple of backpacks, every time. This crap will all fit in my parents ID.4 but not in our Mach-E.

30 years ago, I was working at a startup that was doing the wireless communication in the charging paddle for the fast charger. There was no connector on the EV1. It was like your iPhone and charged when the paddle was inserted into a slot. GM was so far ahead and spent a ton of money in the early 90s. Then they crushed everything, and we drove gas SUVs for the next 25 years, and forgot that we knew anything about EVs.

  • @newscoulomb3705
    @newscoulomb3705 8 днів тому

The biggest "unfinished" aspect I can see for the Equinox EV right now is that the DC fast charging profile needs to be finalized. It is still too erratic/inconsistent, and it has a significant dip in charging speed between 40% and 60% battery. If Equinox EV owners want to travel as quickly as possible right now, they are priced into driving it like a Tesla (making about twice as many stops as reasonable and only charging for 15 to 20 minutes at a time). Ideally, these Ultium batteries should be charging from 10% to 80% in 30 to 35 minutes instead of the 40 to 45 minutes we're currently seeing, giving drivers the option to travel 600 to 700 miles with just a couple of stops.

To me, this appears to be an archaic design. You are right in that Chevy has indeed had a rough electric journey - one that they can clearly blame on themselves for their lack of consistent effort and non-devotion to the EV auto space. This changes nothing for them, and the people that want them to stay in business. Reminds me of a science magazine's render from the year 1999, of what the future electric car will look like in 2024.

Thankfully they didn't try and fill the ICE grille area with garbage cladding, coloring, etc. Just let the EVs be smooth.

3:30 Why cant door handles be like on some of the corvettes, Honda CRZ, or the back door on the hyundai veloster.
Sure its not quite as efficient as being flush but it is going to be more user friendly.
When i see this handle i am already dreading the dash. I would not be surprized if there were only a hazard button and maybe MAYBE a knob for volume and temperature..
Listen, GM, i understand touch screens are cheaper and more reliable than physical switches and buttons, but do you know whats even more reliable? Having both.
I dont want to be driving down the road trying to change the song, or HVAC and press the ejecto seat or pop the trailer, this is why i like buttons because i dont drive on the autobahn, i drive on bumpy north american roads, i also dont like having to take my eyes off the road to see a touch icon, i'd rather have the muscle memory and tactility of buttons, with the backup of touch for when i'm stopped and thats more elegant.
Also, with the level of data collection on modern cars, any car that doesnt have USB for music, no way for me to add or, or cant have an after market stereo is a no-go for me. The car, my insurance company, and the governments around the world dont need to know who i'm texting/calling, and dont need a copy of my messages.

My Philly Boys Hall & Oates represent!!! That's a shame Chevrolet Equinox EV doesn't have Apple Car Play. Does it have Android Auto or not? I would get an EV but I have not seen any charging stations in my neighborhood to use. No spare tire? What happens if you have a tire that doesn't hold air because it has two holes on the inside wall of the tire? A Fix-A-Flat isnt' going to work for that.

A lot of cars gas and electric don't have spare tires now I have my stock tire kit also my own tire plug kit and a AAA membership. There is very little or no signage for EV charging, you have to search it, ideally check out the station to to make sure it's active & legit

@@markjoppru8015 If you can charge at home and you are okay with not getting the highest trim leasing an EV seems like a no brainer to me. In some places like Colorado you can stack the deals so well that the car pays for itself when taking into consideration the fuel costs. I think there is kind of an irony going on here in the all of the anti EV FUD is making EV’s in less demand and therefore cheaper. Who knows, maybe all of these people getting great lease deals will get hooked on EVs. I don’t think EVs are for everyone, but I’m not sure if people know how affordable they’ve gotten compared to a couple of years ago.

@@dewdew34 I was concerned about that so I called my insurance company and it was not a huge difference between the EV I’m looking at and the one I own, but it went up gradually, and I think the Tesla was the most expensive for some reason. It’s definitely something worth shopping around for and taking into consideration.
