    Just a heads up you want as little valve overlap as possible on a turbo setup... you want them to open then slam shut to hold the boost pressure charge in not blow it out the exhaust port it wastes valuable duration on the camshaft blowing boost out the exhaust valve...

      @zxggwrt 5 років тому

    • @elesjuan
      @elesjuan 5 років тому +2

      Only n00bs run low compression with boost. With a good cylinder head, quality charge cooling, the proper timing, and a lot of octane you can easily run high compression, high boost, high power motors.
      This 212 motor though.. while they proved in the dyno episode the turbo is actually adding power, it's not really that much.

    That cam is not going to be ideal for a turbocharged application. Minimal overlap is what your lookin for. All of that captured energy coming from the turbo will get spit right back out the exhaust and the turbo will be all for nothing. This is especially true in your case, where you’ll be lucky to see 5 lbs

      Nicks backyardprojects...lol exactly. It doesn’t matter how many parts you can “bolt on” to this thing. You still actually have to know the why and the how of building boosted engines if you really want it to work. I applaud them giving it a try, but there is an enormous lack of knowledge behind this project... which almost always spells disaster. I wish you all the best though, I hope you succeed in whatever the hell you are trying to do here.

    Good job guys! Glad to hear you've decided to go the EFI route. Which system are you going to use and about how much will it set you back? I've been impatiently waiting on nanoefi myself.
    After you've tuned this and dyno'd it you should cut the drive portion off and run it belt or chain driven as a supercharger. Taking a WAG I'd think you should get 20%-40% more power and you'd definitely get boost over a wider RPM range.

    You can poboy balance the crankshaft use old bearings on the crank with the piston rod rings everything together on the crank as if it was in the engine. Use something to set the crank bearings in for the crankshaft to be able to spin in the bearings freely with the piston and rod hanging down spin the crank to see if the weights are heavier or the piston is heavier you will then know what is heavier to take material off of. If done correctly you will have a engine that will last! Not doing so results in bearing wear then rod nock then worse from then on. Not hating on the turbo build I think its sweet tbh. Also remember with force induction you'll always be taking timing out. I'd start with stock ignition timing and go from there 32 degrees i still think is to much.

    If you get the turbo working right, you'll have achieved something Cars & Cameras didn't. Not knocking them, because I like a lot of their stuff. But they just never got the turbo working in a way that was satisfactory. It'll be interesting to see how this progresses and if it can get dialed in on a small engine like this.

    I’d would have kept the stock compression and ran a MLS head gasket to drop compression to help prevent pre detonation. Also race gas

    You will "blow the jug" get that block welded and reinforced properly. Always needed when running over 20hp

    Your gonna kill all you boost with that cam. The boost will just flow straight out the exhaust with all that overlap. You want an love separation angle of about 115-112° with boost. Don't know the lsa it has now so please tell me what it is. Also don't want too much duration. Maybe 230 max. You really want high lift low duration amd a wide lsa with boost

      How are you gonna build boost like that with barely any exhaust flow

      That turbo is way too big for that engine anyways.

      @@fullmetaljacket7 yep, I have the same turbo on a 300cc water cooled scooter, and it just starts to make boost at 5500. 212 is never going to get enough heat to spool that turbo. They would be better off with EFI and a 10 shot of nitrous.

      @@traceanthony3588 if it makes any boost at all it'll just blow all the fresh charge out the exhaust and not make any more power with that cam.

    Kinda scary dinging a new cam against the crank. Big cam may get smaller and smaller. I figure with a build like this it wont last that long anyway. Suggest a quick hone before new rings. Im ready to see if its worth the $ or not.
