Another tip for anyone running heaters in tank is to turn off the heater for a few days while doing water changes and feeding live/frozen foods. I used to do this when I used heaters in tank. It'll simulate a cold rain/weather situation and that's worked best for me.
Used to breed 20 species of Corydoras back 10 year ago. C.Aeneus and Brochis are the easiest to breed. But live food cost a fortune here. Using live bloodworm, tubifex and microworm here.
As a beginner fish keeper I bred my Emeralds with huge success, 50+ (January 2022). At almost two years old now, they are the fan favorite of visitors. They truly have the ability to brighten my mood. Watching them, I can’t help but smile. They develop little personalities.
An old time fish breeder told me he believes that the Cory fry need to build a gut bacteria to aid with digestion. That's the importance of plants, mulm, and or leaves in the grow-out tank. I use Oak leaves because they are FREE 😃. Many times you'll have a HUGE die off at the 2 week mark, the leaves, plants, etc. seem to help with this issue. One more thing, when I have stubborn breeders I'll stick a power head in the tank. This gives a nice water flow and it seems to push them in to spawning. Great Video!!! P.S. I hope you weren't talking about my Cory breeding videos when you said "Other breeding videos" LOL
Yes there's science that shows that leaves and mulm that have been colonized by bacteria are more digestible and more nutritious than fresh leaves, the fish actually gain a significant amount of nutrition from the bacterial films on breaking down botanicals.
I just had a batch of fertile eggs hatch and I have the fry in a little plastic container in the tank with it they are all about. 2 days old and I can see that they are developing their colors, it’s so cool to see them grow every single day
Works. When my father passed his fish came to me. I've done my best but I'm down to his last cory cat. Those fish survived everything. There tanks. I had no luck breeding them in the communiity tank I built. (or maybe I didn't see it). I swapped out to their orignal 29g tank followed your method. Just pulled off 30+ eggs off the glass. The line will live on ;)
An alternative that has been helpful for me has been to use the tannins from the almond leaves as a substitute for the methylene blue! Good for when its hard to get hold of methylene blue. Just relying on the leaves can take a while for the tannins to diffuse into the water so boiling the leaves can be a quick way to get a "tea" that u can dose into ur hatching tanks!
jus to add, u can choose either to add the whole entire thing of boiled “tea” almond leaves/oak leaves or add a precise amount with a turkey baster or small syringe, either way the tannin lookin mold is great for microorganisms for small fry
My panda Corys. Are laying 4 to 10 eggs a day for the last month or so. Until last night. I picked 100+. There are 4 females and 3 males. Thanks for all the info. You're video's are amazing.
hey, was at your store last saturday and tried your bug buffet! the rainbows i got absolutely love it and every other fish in my tank, you should be proud of that food. it inspired my sterbais to breed that night. always have to rush before the discus eat them ahaha
Hello Nick, I hope you are doing fine mate, I love your content, and I have spent hours watching your videos, my favorite one is the Hobbyist Keeping Fish for 45 Years | In Depth Tour I have watched that video like 20+ times, I subscribe to your channel after watching the breeding videos, I would like to watch an updated video of how to breed Apistos, greeting from Costa Rica mate, keep the good work up.
My cory fry love your food. Even my peppermints prefer it more than any store bought algae wafer. Can't wait for your new algae food! Your changing the scene day by day mate
I've had good success hatching them out by keeping it simple. Plastic shoe boxes with tank water and a bubbler set really low. Holds about 6 cups of water and I swap about 2 cups of tank water daily with it. No food, just make sure there is a bit of mulm in the initial tub setup. I let them grow in there until large enough to not get eaten then it's into a tank (or outdoor tub weather dependant, they grow huge outside) Of note: Substrate color will effect the darkness (at least peppered) of the fish. Dark substrate = dark fish. Tubs are clear and with nothing on the floor the fish will be much lighter
This video was very informative. Thank you so much! I didn't realize I have a male and female cory (one of each - what luck). She did her little dance on a bunch of my sword leaves and the tank wall. Now I have about 50 eggs and have no idea what I am getting into. My tank currently has guppies (who constantly breed) and limias with babies as well. I just placed an order and hoping they make it! :)
Love it. I need this video. I have only ever bred my panda cories accidentally when a surprise fry showed up in my community tank. For your cpd problem, you might try marbles in the bottom of the egg catcher or a false bottom they physically can't get through. Love the content.
You have the patience of a saint sir... I could not begin to imagine collecting hundreds of eggs one by one lol. My girls spread their eggs on the glass I have a great system of scraper with net that scrapes and collects at the same time. I collected about 150 a few days ago.
I miss having a tank. I don't, however, miss having to clean it. I love watching your videos anyway. It's very relaxing and I get to enjoy fish without the work of owning them myself.
I found the best time to trigger them is if possible do a water change the day it starts raining or the day before. Easy to do it the tropics but might be tough in other areas.
i used a mix of fluval bug bites flakes and frozen blood worms, i dont know what the difference is between the regular bug bites and the colour enhancing bug bites but ive only had success with the colour enhancing bug bites flakes and not the regular bug bites, ive had a lot of success tho with the colour enhancing stuff tho... bug bites in the morning blood worms at night for ten days and most fish will be ready to breed
Had no plans of even breeding mine yet. Just had two julies in with my shrimp and guppies ror cleaning purposes and here i am with around 150 eggs. :')
My corys started breeding 3 days ago, i saw the female sucking on the male in the T pose while shaking vigorously, now 3 days later i have over 10 cory babys that have hatched!! It was pretty easy moving them to another tank because the eggs are really tough and hard and then 2 to 3 days later they started getting darker and the infertile eggs went white and a little soft, so they were easy to separate. Also i only used melafix for an antifungal, and it worked. As well as keeping one neocaradina shrimp in with them. Cant wait to have them grow up😊
Another great informative video! Thanks for sharing, I love Cory's and they always look good in a little school like in the wild, great little busy fish to watch, I rather them to L numbers my self as they always seem to be out there.
Hi Nick Great video💥 I just got my first group of 7 Sterbais Can you please explain or is there a video out there on how to ship corydoras in bags? I heard that Sterbais must be shiped individually cause they can release poision in the bag kill each other? Please let me know if this is true and how would you ship them? Thanks
Merci pour cette super vidéo, effectivement il y en a peu sur ce sujet, merci d'avoir partagé vos astuces, c'était très intéressant ! Les Cory sont mes chouchous ❤
I had a group of Cory Aeneus in a tank with a lot of Java Moss, feeding them tetramin and frozen once a week, and they just bred, do you think that is typical?
I have a group of albino Cory 1 male 3 females they keep laying on the glass and I leave them in there as I’ve had success this way with my pandas but for some reason none of the eggs are fertile is there anything I can do? Oh and the videos are great!
I can't stop my peppered cory breeding. Doesn't matter what water temperature, what food I feed, how often I change the water, they keep producing eggs. Occasionally I'll pick some eggs out and bring them on , but have to be quick as they're in a community tank and can become snacks very quickly
firstly i will say i love your video & hoping one day, you grow that tash again lol it loocked like you went out hairy aping on the weekend (cockney slang)
Awesome phot Cory’s are my fav fish and I’d love to start breeding. One question about all breeding videos is how do you know When to breed or when they are ready to breed as I’ve got mollies as well and they are very hit a miss
Question, when you say you like to keep your water crystal clear for the baby fry, how would you go about keeping it crystal clear with little to no bacteria exposure to the baby’s?
Have you bred Sterbai Corys? Can you use this same process with Sterbai’s? I have an older female and have found some males and would love to try breeding them.
Can i use Ramshorn Snail instead of Mystery Snail? I use big Plastic Storage Container to keep baby fish. I love Corys but i haven't got success at past. Planning to give a try again. Bug buffet is not available in my country what are the alternatives if you can suggest.
my panda corys breed in my community tank. With angelfish, guppy, molly, platy, a betta and TONS of snails. Shouldn't be happening... but it is. 4 broods so far.
I'm gonna get "so much hate" for this :)))) i had 4 Panda in the tank for a year or so. Community tank with otos, neon tetra, glowlight tetra, one snow white male guppy (a rescue) shrimp and snails (rabbit and nerite). i feed them tetra flakes and pellets. A couple of days ago i was watching a shrimp eating a pellet when three small panda corry (third of an inch in size) popped out of the carpet (tank is heavily planted, it also has a S Repens carpet) and joined the shrimp. I guess i really got lucky :)))
having been out of the hobby for 15 years, ive noticed the price of even easy to breed fish is crazy in Australia, i kind of regret getting back into the hobby.
Being the other side of the planet to you I don't have access to Bug Buffet. I do have a lot of live food cultures, would micro worms and/or vinegar eels be a good first food?
I'm just a random viewer wandering through but I can answer that question. You should always avoid natural fibers like cotton with homemade spawning mops and instead look for synthetics like polyester as they resist aging and take a much longer time to break down compared to plant based, which... I haven't personally tested it but with attempting to breed fish that're scavengers that will eat decaying botanicals like old leaves, I could see them eating your spawning mop instead of laying on it ^^' Good luck though, I'm currently using some cheap, dark green polyester yard from the Dollar Store but there's a few other low priced options for mop spawning fish I'm sure you'll have better luck with

brochis you mean the big one wild or the green emerald ?
@@TriHard7cgreen emeralds we’re classified as a Brochis but was reclassified to corydoras somewhat recently.

Great advice. Our Albino female laid around 300 eggs yesterday, so here we go with our first Cory breeding :)
I have no plans to breed corys but I loved every minute if this video. You have seriously quality videos 👍

Damn corydoras are so f'in adorable. I never thought I'd be as attached to these little wierdos as I am. They ended up being among my favorites.

Love that overview you showed around 4:45 is there a link existing to a printable version of it?
I have 2 green corys and randomly saw a baby in my tank, it's been 3 weeks and it looks healthy so hoping he pulls through
How'd it turn out?

1. Can I put shrimp in to help with the fungus? If so what shrimp?
2. Can I just move the adult fish instead of the eggs?

hey man, can you do a video about breeding harlequin rasboras? would love to see your view and havent seen anything online that is KFS quality
I don't breed corydoras but those in my tank lay 100s of eggs (Which my other fish usually eat) but I'd love to try spawning
Curious what your hair line looks like. Does it ever see the sun sanchez ???

I’ve had some for around 4 years now and they randomly lay eggs every so often. I think I might hatch some
I have 2 for about a year, don't know if they are male or female but let's give it a go I suppose
Please make a video on gouramis, like three dotted or honey gourami please.
hi can you make a video on how to breed killifish i would love it

What are the water parameters that you recommend to breed corys?
What is a minimum fish tank size to keep a group of 14 cory for breeding?

love the breeding videos
Can they be kept with guppy fry ?

Are filters necessary? Don’t they breathe air ?
Has anyone heard him say the sizes of the breeding tanks? They look 20-30 gallons
