    The average layman can't even comprehend 1080p yet. Heck, most "HD" TV channels only do 720p or 1080i or worse.
    Even knuckle-dragging "next-gen" console players haven't experienced 1080p.

    • @TheSimsterC
      @TheSimsterC 9 років тому +3

      recently got a proper ips 1080p monitor to replace my not great tn 900p monitor that was giving me headaches. while I was setting it up I noticed the 1080i option and I thought 'haven't I seen that resolution somewhere? didn't my ps3 use to run at that res in some games?' clicked it on and OH GOD THE BLUR. Immediete headache and switching back to 1080P

      @jedixo 9 років тому

      BumpahCarz the ps3 will only display 1080i if it is connected to a tv that supports 1080i as it's highest resolution. otherwise it would output 1080p to a full HD display, no game will default back to 1080i, a lot of games default back to 720p though. almost no games for the ps3 render at 1920x1080 anyway they are all upscaled after they have been renderd

    • @HazewinDog
      @HazewinDog 9 років тому

      Tomskii5 well isn't TV as we know it going to disappear soon? I mean TV through internet cable is already common, we already have insane flexibility in how we set up, connect, and use our devices alone and combined, and as internet is only getting faster and cheaper, with some countries even offering 1000mb/s internet for a mere 20 bucks a month... I just can't imagine TV as we know it will still be popular 5 years from now, at least not in the more technologically advanced countries.

      It's about progression and getting forward dawg. They can do nice things now,but a very small percentage of people can use them or pay for them. The more time you give it the better the chances of the technology improving/getting optimized and people being able to pay for it so it can become a standard.
      It's better this way than companies sitting on their asses eating chips all day.

    I never used anything other than LG monitors. I can't judge any other monitor brand I can definitely tell that LG monitors are great and I never had any problems with them. I never replaced one LG monitor with other because previous one broke down, I replaced them just for higher specifications (I am talking about at least 4 years of hard work before replacement and also after 4 years they are in pretty good shape). When it comes to displays (monitors or TVs) LG surely knows what they are doing.

    8k QLED tvs (not OLED) are the future, but don't expect them to hit stores until 2021. You get the all the benefits of OLED (with potentially even better color and HDR) without the flaws like screen burn in, low life expectancy, motion blur/judder, and high price. Granted OLEDs will continue to improve in those areas but I believe QLED will be the favored technology.

    This is approximately 359 PPI. So the TV has more pixels per square inch than Apple's retina display if I recall correctly. This dense PPI isn't only amazing for a TV but is pretty much standard in the handheld market as well.

      Looks like the intro was shot in a darker room, so the shutter speed was increased to make the video brighter, sacrificing framerate.

    • @AnActualApple
      @AnActualApple 9 років тому

      Shorty06 The shutter speed will have been decreased not increased... and when you increase the shutter speed the image would appear darker not brighter.
      If you were to use a phantom slow motion camera to capture a subject in slow motion, the huge frame rates would require higher shutter speeds - because the higher the frame rate, the more frames need to be captured per second. Which is why you'll find the subject of a slow motion shot very well lit because the camera has less time to capture light per frame.
      In this case to correctly expose the image they unknowingly reduced the shutter speed past the frame rate they were shooting at, therefore the video appears choppy as the camera is unable to capture the correct number of frames per second. If they were shooting at 30fps they will have decreased the shutter speed past 1/30s.
      Hope that helps.

    • @shorthouse06
      @shorthouse06 9 років тому

      AnActualApple Oh yeah, my bad, that's what I meant. I just confused myself because when you decrease the shutter speed the exposure time you see displayed increases.

    acutally linus displayport 1.3 is able to do 8k at 60 fps using 4:2:0 subsampling. sure it leads to 2 pixels of bleed but when you have 8k resultion you still endup with a much finer and better looking picture.

      Not everyone has the money to power a TV that consumes more energy than a fridge just to produce a visibly bright picture.

    • @TrollFaceTheMan
      @TrollFaceTheMan 8 років тому

      First off that is very incorrect my 65 Inch plasma use between 250-450Watts Max. A refrigerator on average uses 500-800 Watts...
      So no plasma's do not use "More than a Refrigerator..."
      And second off I wasn't talking about a "Visibly brighter Picture..." I was talking about pure blacks...
      Because plasma the way Plasmas work they are able to produce pure blacks by simple not lighting certain cells. This is unlike LED's which use a bright light to blanket the whole back of the screen and thereby when they Emulate blacks small amount of light seeps through a creates more of a gray effect.

    • @TrollFaceTheMan
      @TrollFaceTheMan 8 років тому

      The only reason I mentioned it is because while I was watching this on my Tv I thought to myself
      "Wow those Tv's really has a sharp picture and rich tone..."
      Ironically enough though I realized seconds later how stupid that thought was as I am watching it on my Tv and as such the "Impressiveness" of those Tv's are actually the Impressiveness of my Tv...
      I thought it was ironic because I never really even paid attention to the Black levels before but looking at my LED monitors the difference is astronomical...

    • @Katzelle3
      @Katzelle3 8 років тому +1

      TrollFaceTheMan
      Aha, ok, 450 Watts is still a considerable amount of power. You could power an entire high-end computer setup with that much.
      OLED TVs don't even need half of that and produce a way brighter picture.
      Also, they weigh much less.

Why would we sell Plasmas with native 5.000.000:1 contrast ratios anymore? Plasma is not sexy, not as much as "LED" (my friggin' god, it's just a backlight technique, not a panel type nor a new technology! but of course, the typical "i wan a good tv" mall shopper doesn't know that, so led, LED, LED!!!!). So please, PLEASE, OLED, come and save us from lacking screen technologies!

      ***** "terrible" is such a mean word. I can game pretty OK in a shitty LG low End plasma that i bought a couple of months ago. Yeah, it's not a monitor, but there werent any "gaming" PDP tv's, right? I can game much better in the plasma than in other TV i have, a two years old OKI LCD. Like, MUCH bettter, i'd say (and i'm talking about PC gaming). But OK, let's give you that, PDP's were not ideal for gaming. But for films, they were second to none. By a large margin, actually. Except if you watch films in fully lit rooms, wich most people dont do, anyway.

    • @ComandanteJ
      @ComandanteJ 9 років тому

      ***** Exactly, and normal TV's, even a lot of the super expensive ones, have total input lag times that are closer to 50-60ms. I'm not a competitive gamer, but i've been playing in this CHEAP ASS plasma i bought (1080p, 50 inches, all for 350€ brand new), i play Borderlands, I've re-played Metro 2033 (what an experience compared to my 22 inch tn monitor... .With all those dark colors, PDP's really shine... or NOT shine LOL). and many other games, even some BF3 online, and i've not noticed too much lag, to be honest. It might not be as instanteneous as a CRT, but good enough for me.

    • @ComandanteJ
      @ComandanteJ 9 років тому

      ***** C'mon, man, for gaming nothing beats a TN, but we all know how absolutely horrid they look. Well, you could play on a CRT, of course, but good luck finding a good one that still works well. But unless you are a Unreal/Quake/CS type of player, i think you can live with a little input lag, it's not the end of the world. I'd rather have a little more input lag, than blurring. And PDP's pixel response times are instantaneous, so blur is greatly reduced, sometimes, entirely eliminated.

      The thing with OLED is that it will absolutely decimate the current market because of it's possibilities.
      To give you some ideas, OLED can be literally printed onto almost any material. After modifications to the surface, it can be printed onto walls, furniture, houses, vehicles... in theory you should be able to get an OLED tatoo (there already is concept for under-the-skin OLED implants).
      After OLED comes into mass production, at which point it will soon be cheaper to manufacture than the cheapest of LCD panbels, the concept of a box with a display panel in it will slowly begin to die.

    Do you wonder what 8k looks like? Take a look at a 40 inch 4k tv. I'm writing this at 4k from a 40 inch tv and since 8k seems to come at only 80 inches or more, an 80 inch would be four 40 inch monitors at 4k. I do see the difference from my former 1080p monitor but then I'm sitting up close. Of course the grandness and impression of an 80 inch still has it's own wow factor apart from pixel peeping.

    8k almost 100 inch tv is impractical. We all know the future is in projecting an image on a wall.. much like jake sully's tv in his cramped apartment.. projecting a big ass tv on a wall only requiring a small box. Much like that laser projector. If they can make the thing cost less, produce higher quality images than solid tv panel AND cost less... thats a lot of things to improve on.

  • @Razor2048

    The issue is that 8K is still pretty low in the resolution department. They need to come out with a proper 16K TV. That would allow you closer viewing, in addition to proper detail. Also given how modern anime is made, it would be easier to scale anime to 16K, thus further enhancing the anime experience.

    This is how I always imagined ideal TVs/monitors. Little to no bezel with 21:9 aspect ratio & flexible enough to be curved with a push of a button (built-in electromotor) + high-res OLED panel on the inside. Since I believe OLEDs can be clocked to high refresh rates we could be finally getting something just as good for gaming purposes.
    Oh and by the way, how are whites when comparing high end OLEDs to LCDs?

    i think a lot o people still need to adapt to 4k... 8k can wait honestly i still think sony has the upper hand on 4k with their architecture and features along with how the tvs have gotten thinner and are running android os now. plus theres a lot of people still wondering how useful 4k is for a standard and not everyone is willing to spend 3-25k on a tv, so why even focus on 8k sonty is ahead of everyone in my opinion especially with how they already have oled tvs and triboluminescent color displays for better picture quality

    4K TVs will be mainstream by 2020. They'll start picking up quickly during 2016-2018 because of the Olympics, but it won't be until 2020 during *the* Olympics when they will be fairly common with a share of roughly 15%. Considering NHK will be broadcasting already in 8K by that time, it will give 4K the proper push it needs. However, I still think that 4K TVs (or at least 4K channels) won't really do it. Everybody's waiting for 8K, which will be the real deal and most likely the end of the finish line so to speak. 4K is just a transition to get there.

    It is so interesting .. Plasma was literally attacked by everyone who bought a LED. Plasma offered "true black" ages ago, but is now gone and not being developed further. Plasma also had the refresh even this OLED is not close too; which is ironic as sports is a main reason many buy these TVs .. or ACTION movies. No wonder people with LED usually watch them from a distance. Anyway, it is great to see the "plasma benefits" are finally coming to the LED.

    Just a question:
    Why is LG so good in TV's and then their phones are not adopting OLED which seems to be the reason why people prefer Samsung over LG.

    • @andresizarra2312
      @andresizarra2312 7 років тому

      because unlike samsung, the investment done to produce OLED Panels was in machinery for tv panels, and samsung did it for smartphone panels, that is the difference Daniel.

      @DanielEsimu 7 років тому

      Andres Izarra Thanks for the reply and clarification. But I read some where and it was mentioned that LG might supply the iPhone 8 with OLED panels and it was also rumoured that Xiaomi might get OLED panels from them. So I think they have the machinery but not the will to implement.

      they can produce them at prices were they dont lose as long as they are a few units. i dont know if they are doing investment in panels for smartphones, but right now today the only ones able to produces such panels are samsung. and others like lg who might be able to make them just doing few units.

    Am I the only one who remembers how in the NES era some games had as little as 100 vertical pixels, and it was enough to create an experience? If I'm not mistaken the gameboy color had 96 vertical pixels.
    Now we don't even have 1080p 60fps everywhere (consoles struggling, tv in 1080i or 1080p 30, etc); yet companies are pushing more and more pixeles that we will not even be able to see from a normal viewing distance.
