😮 co-wrote Sugar Sugar in the Archies, he kinda has a Neil Diamond feel in this one😮
A lot of people think Neil Diamond things this, but they are mistaken.
I definitely agree.
That went to NUMBER 1 in 1970 more 70s GOLD
Andy Kim also sang on Sugar Sugar along with lead singer Ron Dante.
@@theodoreritola7641 Sept. 20th, 1969 on the BIllboard Charts. The first of four weeks at number one.
Still haven’t done any 70’s British Disco era hit makers, ‘Hot Chocolate’!
Big Hits
‘You Sexy Thing’
‘Everybody’s A Winner’
‘Emma’
‘So You Win Again’
They would really like "You Sexy Thing" I think - & THEN they will have to watch "The Full Monty" on their movie channel. 😉
After 50 years, I still love this song!
Great song!!!!!
Really?
For Beach Boys vibes, try Beach Baby by The First Class. Great horns...
Automatic - Pointer Sisters
Too Late To Turn Back Now - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose
My Love is Free - Double Exposure 4:41
Oh so good!!!
Yeah some 70’s Bubble Gum Music. Need to do Simon Says, Little Bit Of Soul, Bubble Gum Music, and Chewy Chewy. These are the song titles by other bands of the time. Silly but catchy. Some early Sweet would slide in nicely also. I know you guys have a couple of early Sweet songs but check out CoCo, Poppa Joe, and Alexander Graham Bell. Please also check out Moviestar by Harpo. I know Amber in particular will dig it and I’ve mentioned it before that it has Frida from ABBA doing some background vocals.
I believe the instrument you are hearing is a Moog synthesizer.
Gaby Moreno-Dancing The Night Away
We need to hear more Alabama with "youll love in the first degree "
If you don't think of Neil Diamond when you hear this song, get your hearing checked. 😂 to this day, every time this songs comes on and he starts singing I think oh Neil Diamond, no wait....!! lol
@gypsyrocker ... yes, he TOTALLY sounds like Neil D.!
I remember when this came out & I found out it WASN'T N.D.
Same here 😂
Never heard of Andy Kim... and first thing I thought was: a Neil Diamond kind of singer.
Interesting.. Never heard of this guy, I always thought this WAS Neil Diamond! 🤷🏼♀️
lol yes me too 😊
Andy Kim was born and raised right here in Montreal. He holds an annual Christmas Show to raise funds for The Montreal Children's Hospital. He was also one of the musicians that recorded Sugar Sugar as The Archies.
I believe he wrote Sugar Sugar.
@@maggynewtown3500 He did among many others.
Derek, he went to Malcolm Campbell High School.
@@MrGG1959 I don't know where that is or was. I grew up in Verdun and don't remember ever hearing of it before.
@@maggynewtown3500 He also sang the song as "Archie".
The Canadian Neil Diamond!
Ditto!
He’s always reminded of Neil Diamond. Didn’t know he’s Canadian. I was so little when this came out.
I always thought this was Neil Diamond. I learned something today.
I always forget that this ISN'T Neil! Ha!
I was just thinking I remember this song back in the day but I never got Neil Diamond vibes until just now.
Lee Michaels =“DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?!”
great song!!
Jonathan Edwards =“ SUNSHINE (GO AWAY TODAY)”
another great song!!!
both from the 70s!!
Great choices!👍
😅😅😅😅
Do You Know What I Mean? Is 🔥!! One of my playlist songs for decades!! 😊
Last Song by Edward Bear would be another great song to hear
Jonathan Edwards "Shanty."
Another Canadian to react to again is Gino Vanelli and his 70s ballad, I Just Want To Stop.
What a great, powerful voice on Mr. V👍
Black Car too
I am in my bed after lights out. I have my transistor radio closed to my ear tuned into the local AM radio station. And I am singing along...... The windows are open and it is a warm summer night.
Good good memories of AM radio
Lol...story of my younger self in the 70s❤
Mine was one of those round ones, light blue ❤️🐝🤗
right there with ya....had to keep the radio down though so dad didn't walk by the bedroom door and hear it and take it away till the next day to make me go to sleep lol
I was 12 when this was popular, and I still remember the words. If y’all haven’t reacted to Gino Vannelli , he’s another great artist from Canada.
omigosh Gino Vannelli would be AWESOME! So many great songs if they do a deep dive.
I was only almost 10 but I remember singing to it with the radio.
And he had great hair, too, back in the day .
I was 5 when this came out, and to my surprise I was singing along with it as soon as the video began. I feel like it would be impossible to not like this song!
I don’t remember if they have reacted to any Gino yet. I have heard lots of other reactions to him on other channels. If they haven’t, they will love his music.
10 to one, dollars to donuts, they will label him “blue-eyed soul”. Why not? But he also was so much more.
According to Kim, he shopped this to every label in Canada and the US, and none of them wanted anything to do with it. So he went ahead and self-produced it himself.
He apparantly got Don Kirshner's interest. Don was let go from being The Monkee's song producer, so he created Calendar Records which became The Archies U.S. label.
@amb2745 the Archies was 1969. Rock Me Gently was 5 years later, having just celebrated it's 50th anniversary.
A radio classic from the 70’s!
Amber's smile captures the vibe of the song. Glad you all got around to this song.
Rock Me Gently just makes you feel good!
“Rock Me Gently" is a song by Andy Kim, released as a single on June 22, 1974. “Rock Me Gently" debuted on the Hot 100 on June 22, 1974, and took 14 weeks to reach No. 1 on September 28.
“Rock Me Gently” was the #39 song on NYC Radio’s 77 WABC’s Top 100 of 1974.

Gary Coleman on percussion ? Is there nothing that kid couldn’t do?
@@StephenMcDowell-nd5jgwhatcha talk in’ bout Willis?
Michael Omartian is very famous
So the song will be celebrating the 50th. Anniversary of it having been released in 10 days.
Hit #1 on my 11th birthday 👍✌️❤️🤘
The 70s were such a carefree and happy decade in so many ways and the music really reflected it!
That's the 70's for you guys. Music back then always put a smile on your face.
Jay and Amber, Love that you finally got around to Andy Kim, whom you heard in the Archies’ Sugar Sugar. You asked about all the instruments in Rock Me Gently. Here you go:
Backing Vocals - Carol Carmichael And Group
Bass - Max Bennett
Drums - Ed Greene
Guitars - Andy Kim, Ben Benay, Dean Parks, Larry Carlton
Keyboards - Michael Omartian
Percussion - Gary Coleman
Rock Me Gently hit #1 in September 28 1974. Another top 5 tune from that week was by a one-hit wonder, First Class, and their retro classic, Beach Baby. Take a listen; I think you’ll enjoy.
Yes, Andy Kim along with Jeff Berry wrote Sugar Sugar for the Archies, featuring Ron Dante on lead vocals.
Not "THAT" Gary Coleman....lol
Beach Baby is a fun song.
@@paulguthrie4857 LOL Definitely not the child actor!
I had the 45 of Beach Baby
This song brings me BACK! have not heard this tune in about 15 years!!! Thanks Guys!
One of the greatest pop rock songs of all time.
If you turned on your car radio in 1974, this was playing.
The smooth Andy Kim. A very cool dude. Also did the song Sugar, Sugar and Baby I Love You.
This was a MASSIVE hit in the mid 1970s in the UK. Strange how I still remember all the words even now!!!
I haven’t heard this in ages, thanks to whoever sent this suggestion 😊
Oh Canada!!! And speaking of Canada, you two, and first time artists on your channel, it is far past time you reacted to Blue Rodeo with "Try", Chilliwack with "Fly At Night", Walk Off The Earth (featuring Myles and Isaac) with "Hello" and The Crash Test Dummies with "Superman's Song"!!!!! Go for it, eh?
Start with Max Webster, and nobody has even thought of mentioning Prism who essentially got me through sanding down my 64 Chevy one summer, really really loudly.
From Canada… a lot more by Chilliwack, like “My Girl”, anything from Trooper, starting with “Raise a Little Hell”, “Here for a good time (not a long time)”, “3 Dressed up as a 9”… Sweeney Todd “Juicy Loose” or “Roxy Roller”, Prism “Spaceship Superstar”, “Armageddon”, “Good to be Back”… and the list goes on….
The great funky keyboard sound was played on a Clavinet!
Yes. To be specific, the Hohner Clavinet. The Hohner Clavinet is basically a cross between a guitar and a keyboard. It plays much like a piano, but it uses a guitar-like pick-up to produce the sound. There is yarn (or now some other material) woven between the strings at one end to give it that funky, muted guitar sound.
Jay n Amber have you reacted to the 70s BAND The sweet thier Song FOX ON THE RUN ? U will dig 70s sweet Amber
The amazing Michael Omartian.
I haven't heard this song in forever! Great choice. What happened yesterday I didn't see any videos posted? 🤔
A popular Canadian artist. Hope you like a nice family story, "The Unicorn song" from the *Irish Rovers* is perfect for Sunday school or anyone on a Sunday listening.
Sugar sugar by the Archie’s was co written by Andy Kim.
They should react to sugar sugar if they haven’t already
Wow. Forgot about this one. Thanks!! Another feel good summer song try " Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the waves. It was all over the radio back in the day
It's an 80s hit J. - from Britain.
I always loved how upbeat & "sunny" it was!
When I was little I thought he sounded like Neil Diamond❤
Everybody thought it was Neil Diamond.
You were right, he does...
1990's songs.......
"SAVE TONIGHT" by
eagle-eye-cherry
🍒
Jay needs to hear some 1974 pop rap, "Life is a rock" by Reunion, might want to do lyrics.
This was his biggest U.S. hit. In his native Canada, Andy Kim had hits with covers of "Be My Baby", "Baby I Love You" as well as "Rainbow Ride" and "Fire". These are worthy songs for reaction.
I haven't heard this in ages, still so great. Thanks for the sweet fun memories this song brings.❤
Indeed.
Brings me back to my high school years and a school dance with my future and still wife.
Yeah this gives me starting 7th grade vibes of 1974😊
Awwwww❤
Good for you! 💝
Everything about that song is great and the background singers deserve some credit as well! They were awesome!
Woah, I lost track of how many times I suggested this song.
Great reaction.
Me too!!
..."Class of 76"...on jukeboxes everywhere...The 2 most important instruments in this song are the couple that's listening...
😁Shout out to you from a fellow CO 76er!!
Thats a ood VIBE
Right there with ya! Still rocking after all these years!
1974 not 1976
@@35jeydee pretty sure I know when I graduated high school!
Love this song❤! The background 🎶 singers are amazing as well! Great reaction Amber and Jay! 😎🌹
You guys are a gorgeous couple! I love seeing and hearing your reactions ❤️
The teenager me always thought Rock Me Gently was about dancing😂 I'm now 69 and think I got it wrong.😂 I've not heard this since its original release! Everybody got up and danced whenever the DJ played it. Great memories of fun times.
One of my favorites!!!
ANDY WROTE most of the Archie's songs and especially Sugar Sugar!!
Another Canadian Group to listen to is Edward Bear, the Last Song.
Check out the studio versions of "Cherry Cherry" and "Solitary Man" by Neil Diamond
"Baby I Love You" is my favorite song of his.
You’ve gotta take a listen to “It Never Rains In Southern California” by Albert Hammond (round same time as Andy Kim. This song will stay in your head for a long time! Like you guys said “that 70’s feeling” ✌️
(SORRY J & AMBER! You already did that reaction Last Year 👍🏽)
That Hammond song is amazing and so underrated....takes your soul back to the 70s
Like I said before this was 24/7 juke box hit. Glancing at Andy Kim's photo placed here does he not have a touch of Neil Diamond's appearance at least the hair plus his voice also has Neil's touch
Andy Kim is still with us and performing. He was very recently on a Canadian tour with fellow Canuck singer-songwriter Dan Hill (whom you two should also check out if you haven't)...
Yet another premium slice of pop perfection from the phenomenal 70’s.
The weird sounding instrument you hear is a synthesizer. The solo is a clavinet. It's also a keyboard instrument.
All right my babies... The chorus hook on This song reminds me of a ghost chasing the Scooby-Doo gang. Very cool song indeed 😁👍🏻
Great song! Takes me back to the 70s and my transistor radio. Great times.
GREAT SONG!! Loved it back then so much I had to buy the 45 and play it repeatedly. Became a #1 song on Billboard because it was an upbeat and fun song.
Love this song! Love your channel too!
Wish you would've reacted to the official video of this song. You get to see a new side of Andy Kim. For real you should check it out. 😉
I see from the comments below that others thought that he sounds like Neil Diamond as well... This was one of my faves from back in the day... Amber gave it her stamp of approval by her big smile and chair dancing...another great reaction, guys...Keep being awesome !!!...
I love this song so much!!! Thank you for covering it😘❤️🇨🇦
I remember when this came out and I heard it on the radio...loved it the very first time I heard it....still love it today!!
Still a great pop rock song 50 years later. Timeless.
I was in restaurant bathroom last year and they played this song. I was in the stall (pants up) just dancing away!
I have to say that BOTH of you are so cool together! You’re a compliment to one another! I enjoy watching your reactions to music. You’re just 2 nice AND cool people! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Great pic guys! a #1 in 1974! Another great song from Andy Kim (My Fave) is his cover of "Baby, I Love You" a top ten hit from 1969. React to that next. Thanks. 😎
Andy Kim had another AM Radio hit “Baby I Love You” released in 1969.
Reminds me of great times when troubles were few. I remember thinking it was Neil Diamond when I first heard it. Andy Kim co-wrote Sugar Sugar by The Archies.
ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME
This was our first dance song at our wedding August 3rd 1974, 50th anniversary this year
I so loved this song when I was a little girl!
Another Andy Kim song: Baby I love you
Amber has a beautiful smile ! You two have a great show ! Keep Up the great work!
This is one of the BEST reaction videos of yours that I have seen !!!
This is one of my forgotten favorites!!
I love this one!!!
Enjoy!
Yes their vocals, harmonies are fantastic. The drummer, (Sam Sneed? Has always been such a SMOOTH, consistant force with great nuance and feel!!
Excellent reaction. Such a great, feel good song.
OH YOU GUYS! Ya'll just come up with some great old tunes! This song came out when I was 14! Skateland! 😆
Definite Neil Diamond vibes!!! This song takes me back to the summertime in the 70’s!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
1974
When this song came out, there was also, "rocking chair"by Gwen McCray, rock the boat by the Hues Corporation ,"Rock your baby" by George McCray. And this song "rock me gently" by Andy Kim
2nd grade !! 1974. Playing on the radio all the time in the I.E. I come from musician stock so I remember music no matter how far back. Glad you found this one "Rob Squad".
Been trying 2 get someone -- anyone -- to react to this 0ne for a I0ng time now, and "Beach Baby" by First CIass -- thanks for making it happen Squad!
Oh. I love this song!💜👋🌞💕
This is one of the greatest hooks of all time, but y'all need a slow jam to dance to when the kids are asleep. I recommend the same song title, (totally different song,) by Erasure. I love that y'all reviewed this song. Its one of my favs.
I've got a recommendation for you. Gallery It's so nice to be with you. it was released in 1972. give it a listen.
I need to get some Roller Skates :-)
Hey guys, I hope all is OK? I didn't see any videos posted yesterday, and no updates on why. Which is not like you. Prayers! 🙏😇
I sent them an email hoping they were okay. I expected that they would have said something on this video about what happened. I hope everything is alright too, but the fact that they are back is a good sign.
It took awhile!! Finally
Excellent videos tonight. This one had me snapping my fingers. ❤
Amber and Jordan you may like Alabama (Forty Hour Week for a living). A thank you song to hard working people. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
The sound you're hearing (toward the end) is the sound of a keyboard, more accurately, the Clavinet, played by Michael Omartion. That was a pretty popular keyboard instrument of the 70s, particularly by Stevie Wonder.
This was the first single I ever bought. I was 9 years old. Bought it at Sam Goody's at Woodbridge Center Mall in NJ. My mom took me. I wore out that record. 50 years later I never get tired of hearing this song
Andy is a great singer who is still performing today. He went to the same high school as my late cousin in Montreal which had many great singers from the 70's and beyond attend including Gino Vanelli, Lisa Dal Bello and Myles Goodwin of the group April Wine.
Haven't heard Andy Kim in a very long time! Great Choice & Reaction, You Guys! :)
