The royal double trope with Romana in this story is because David Fisher is being true to his source material, Anthongy Hope's "The Prisoner of Zenda," one of my favorite stories of all time! This is Doctor Who's forary into "Ruritanian romance" (a largely forgotten genre that still pops up if generally unrecognized today when it does). The court scheming, the climatic sword fight, even the soldiers' uniforms are out of The Prisoner of Zenda. And Mary Tamm certainly had the royal looks to make it work! Since you enjoyed this so much, I think you'd enjoy either the short novel, or either the Ronald Coleman or Stewart Granger movie versions (I like both, but prefer the Granger remake). Not only is it a great, ripping yarn in itself, you'll enjoy seeing how it lines up with Tara. Thanx for this post!
Very nice review. I do not like this story very much though. It is my 2nd least favourite Key to Time (Armageddon Factor is much much worse). I think it is too much of a historical for me. Never really liked the historicals.

Just finished this one. Can't believe I've not heard more people hype it up before! Underrated.
Watched this just recently in my epic who marathon (every episode on season 19 now) I love this story to be honest I find it really fun!
Where is your Power of Kroll review? Interested in hearing your perspective on it.
Apologies for the delay across the channel, will be back in a big way later this year; Power of Kroll is on the horizon :)
Kroll! Kroll! Kroll! it's a really surreal one. Oh, ya gotta do Shada too.
@@wattsiswhat It will take time but I plan to discuss every Classic story, Shada included!
Great review. And good channel.
One of the best from that season
I love this story
