Many years ago my husband took me to look at a XJ6 S1 manual O/D that he intended buying. Sitting beside the S1 was an immaculate, original condition S2 SWB auto in Turquoise with Cinnamon leather. We both prefer manuals but ended up buying the S2. Despite the poor reputation S2s have for reliability, that S2 was a delight to drive & completely reliable. We did many enjoyable interstate runs with the S2 pulling the trailer with our race bikes. We sold the S2 a year or so ago to finance the purchase of a XKR & X300. We recently met the new owners & they love the S2. We still believe the SWB S2 is the best looking XJ sedan.

I personally prefer to look of the front of the S2 but that is just my preference. I love the toggle switches lined up on the dash I the S1 better though. Both are quite gorgeous though.

You've got the patience of a saint. I'm an aging 90s straight 6 Jag owner of many. I had a couple of series 2's in my youth. Such lovely cars. I agree re the LED lights in the yellow car. I'm a traditionalist. They are already too beautiful to mess with.

I like most classic cars! The jag is no exception. Glad to see you’re getting it going again instead of going to the wreckers!

Enjoyed the episode. My Dad had his first Jag a XJ6 4.2 Series 2 in 1980 and then a series 3 again 4.2. followed by a couple of XJ40s I've loved Jags ever since and now I'm thinking I might look for a series 1 or 2 as a future project to go with my XK 😊

I love these old series Jags. My favourite is the series one. I had one in the 70's and I loved the traditioal dashboard and was very diaspointed when they changed it for the series 2.

Great job Brett...getting a lovely 4.2 engine back to life . Nothing beats these mechanical carburettor engine. The fuel tanks, hideously expensive post covid if buying new, are always a problem . Best to take a 2 liter container , hung off the bonnet when opened, tubed into the carburettors directly ie bypassing the fuel tanks altogether , to get clean fuel into the carbs. A gravity fed drip like this is plenty for the carbs to run as the system is All low pressure. All of offcourse to see the engine run temporarily withoit gunking up cleaned carbs.

Comp test the last couple of cylinders with a fresh battery or jump leads, surprisingly I have seen that make a big difference.

Those carbs look to me like they're off an earlier model (no AED either). Just a thought mate.
Also you might get better compression figures once the motor has warmed up. Also, open the carb butterflies when doing the check.
Great video, always look forward to your work. Pete in Canberra.

If it was a full resto sure, but it's a lot of work to replace the tanks. It won't be necessary and trying to save money. 😁
