    4:14 - 7:00 Eino Leino's poem about the Birkarls [Pirkkalaiset/pirkkamiehet/pirkat/birckarlar]
    Orjan poika
    Puhui Pirkka puuhkalakki:
    ”Hoi miehet, ylös urohot,
    satanut on uutta lunta,
    läkkäme Lapin kylihin,
    Lapin lasta velkomahan!”
    Läksivät Lapin kävijät,
    veristivät uutta lunta,
    miehet miekoin surmasivat,
    naurattivat naiset kaikki;
    Lappi laajalta savusi,
    kylät jäivät kylmillensä,
    poikaset porossa itki,
    koirat vuorilla vaelti.
    Toip’ on Pirkka orjapiian.
    Vieri aikoa vähäisen,
    lauloi orja lapsellensa:
    ”Heleä emosi heimo,
    heleämpi nurmen heimo;
    suku suuri tuntureilla,
    suku suurempi Manalla;
    eivät pistä Pirkan piikit,
    yllä tapparat yröjen.”
    Ärjyi ilkeä isäntä:
    ”Lyhyestä virsi kaunis!”
    Miekan seinälta sivalti,
    tappoi naisen nauramansa. -
    Se oli Pirkka puuhkalakki.
    Kasvoi kaunis orjan poika.
    Lähtö Lappihin läheni,
    urhot tuota tuumimahan.
    ”Oisko orjasta apua
    retkellä re’ellisellä?”
    Otetahan orjan poika.
    Ajetahan ahkiossa,
    päivä suuren järven päitä,
    toinen hallaista rämettä,
    kolmas vuorta korkeata;
    oli outo orjan mieli,
    sydän rinnassa sykytti.
    Tultiin tunturin laelle;
    tulet tuikki laaksoloista,
    valkeat Lapin kylistä.
    Puhui Pirkka puuhkalakki:
    ”En usko penihin orjan,
    sen on silmässä välähdys
    revontulta tuikeampi;
    paras kun jälelle jääpi.”
    Poika puuhun kytketähän.
    Palasivat pirkkalaiset,
    pulkat täynnä turkiksia,
    vempelet verohelyjä.
    Muisti Pirkka puuhkalakki:
    ”Tais jäädä jälelle poika,
    kuka kurjan päästäntähän?”
    Sujahtivat suksillensa
    heimon sulhot.
    Heinäkenkä
    nukkui puuhun kytkettynä
    hangella hopehisella.
    Näki unta maammon maista.
    Puikoivat punaiset pulkat
    punaisilla kukkuloilla,
    siukoivat siniset petrat
    sinisillä virran-suilla,
    jolui joutsenet hopeiset,
    käet kukkui kultahiset,
    käet kukkui, linnut lauloi
    vihannoivat viidat kaikki
    Lapin suuressa suvessa,
    yössä päivän paistamassa.
    Hyrähti hymyhyn tuuli:
    ”Luoja kaitse maammon maita!”
    Jousen jäntehet helähti,
    suhahtivat sulkanuolet,
    kuoleman kantele kajahti
    polven päällä kaikkivallan.

    3:02 since 1136 Novgorod became a republic and the princes lost almost all of their power they could only lead the army. So, since 1136 it's incorrectly to show the Novgorod Republic as a possession of any foreign prince from other principality because Novgorod as a land and state had not already belonged to the princes. And despite Moscow's (and other) princes became princes of Novgorod, it was not a vassal of Muscovy or other principality

    Savonia (or the Savilahti Pogost, modern Mikkeli) was Novgorodian until 1323 too. Also there was a Karelian presence around the estuary of the Oulu river until the 1370s, I think.

    • @jokemon9547
      @jokemon9547 Рік тому +2

      Not exactly, as it seems that that the region had already been under Swedish occupation and partial administration since the 1290s and the 3rd "crusade" against Karelians. This is correlated by Eric's Chronicle, which mentions 14 "districts" being taken from the Karelians, Savilahti probably among them. And the border region before 1323 was more a frontier that both sides claimed and at times loosely controlled. The Savilahti pogost and others mentioned from around that time probably had little Novgorodian control overall and they were likely based on previous native land divisions in the form of "kihlakunta". The 1323 treaty just formalized and outlined what the border was.

      @jokemon9547 Рік тому +1

      Finland as it exists now has not existed since 806, but southwestern Finland, called "Finland Proper" as a region and probably a tribal kingdom inhabited by the Finns tribe before Swedish expansion, has existed since the Viking Age and was referred to as such by the Norse people in runic inscriptions and the later sagas. That southwestern portion of Finland is also where the rest of the country and Finns get their name from, although being regionally Finns Proper in a cultural and linguistic sense still exists to this day.

    • @jokemon9547
      @jokemon9547 Рік тому +1

      @@You-zo3in Lack of detailed records makes it hard to know exactly what it was, but archeology and native terms for land division and overall organization point to communities of varying sizes with their own largely independent rulers paying lip service to a ruler looking over all of them. There's also the possibility that the ruler looking over all of the communities in a given region was an elected position and was selected at certain times like during war. Interesting thing about that is that during Swedish rule of Finland, a number of peasant uprisings saw the peasants elect a leader among them who was called "king", probably reflecting the old meaning of the word as an elected position. Some information on how society operated can also be acquired through guesswork based on what we know about Estonian land organization during the 13th century Northern Crusades, because unlike Swedes, the crusaders and particularly scholars belonging to the church wrote a lot down on Estonians in comparison. And since Estonians and Finns are closely related and they share most vocabulary relating to societal organization, we can assume that Finland was similar to Estonia in that regard.

    Showing the annexations of all East Karelia in the Scond World War seems off. Those areas, while under military government, were different in legal status from Finland proper. This would seem, if I myself made a video on Germany, showed the German Reichskommissariats are integral German territory, which they were not.
    But this in turn outlines a larger problem from a time watching these videos, namely why bother? I can already find good enough videos on Finland, both pre-Napoloeon and post. Heck, the post-Napoleon videos are well better than this. At that point, you need to bend historical facts to compensate for the otherwise pointless nature of this video. In that vein your works on Poland, Romania and so on are genuine works and, probably, decisive enough to consider their respective territorial histories as complete. This foray on Finland has only taken away from the Balkan project I really look forward too, assuming it a great degree more in depth than Ollie Bye's video on the subject.
    But I digress.

    • @POGKPP

      Im always showing reichkomissariates as puppets, or temporary administration in occupied area as annexed, because border changes during wars works different. Finns annexed those territories illegally, but im showing de facto, the same as i would show mussolini annexing yugoslavia, and etc.
