Thanks for the review! I'm actually a part 107 looking to make a category 1 UAS that's legal to operate directly over people. The new DJI NEO ticks most of the boxes being sub 250gr, AND having shrouded props, but lacks the Remote ID that's a requirement for flying over "open-air assemblies." I think this little unit will tick that last box. Great video!
I got one of these for $34 on Amazon almost a month ago since there was no excuse of them being to expensive, it works great! Don't use the velcro for freestyle! Mine came off in a crash while doing some tree diving... The app sent me right to it luckily, i also spray painted mine with neon paint after that cuz i just got lucky it was getting late in the evening so i saw the flashing light, now im looking for 3d printed mount/protector, would be nice if someone made it right on top a gopro and rc50/session mount....
Thanks Pal, I really appreciate all your videos and I have been watching you for YEARS. This thing is cheap and you walked us through how to do it.. I got mine on order.. Hey, just for info, what did you do in real life, are you retired? I think you must have been in a tech field or a teacher.. anyway thanks.. you have as always been very informative and helpful.
Retired aerospace engineer. In my old age, I've gone back to my roots. Playing with flying toy aircraft. They're actually more fun to play with than the real stuff ;-)
@@Quadcopter101 I knew it.. me too! I retired 4 years ago as an electronics engineer at a large aerospace company with 42 years experience.. LOL you can have all that.. now i just want to have fun.. Great videos and they are all fun.. See ya, Pal, Mike
BTW, I had a friend that worked at my company that had patents on RC control circuits he had invented back in the late 50's.. He was recruited for a project that did some of the first pilot less drones back in the 80's.. He helped with their drone but quit that program then retired after he showed them how to do it because of all the red tape and politics..
It would be cool if they can make a plug to feed the gps into the drone (if thats even possible) so it can feed it for gps rescue ect. I know its bull that its a requirement but dual purpose wouldnt be bad
Enjoy your videos, and thanks for reviewing this gadget. I don't live in the US, so not concerned about the registration process, but would love to use this device just for the insurance of being able to find my model after an unexpected arrival other than back with me. So the question is ... can you use the device and its app for just that function without registration? Perhaps you can advise?
Yes, that is one of its main selling points. The battery lasts for up to 5 hours, and will be continuously transmitting its position during that time. Additionally, the app provides a mapped lined track of the entire flight leading up to its crashed position.
@@Quadcopter101 Wow, thank you for the info, and this thing is perfect. I have lost a couple of small quadcopters in the huge cornfield that this thing would have saved.
Hey QC, can you please do a video on how this works on your drone? Specifically how to find your drone using the app.. that's what really sold me on this ID.. Thanks Pal.
Not really needed as it's simple. The app has a Google maps page. Just open it, and it shows your location and your drone's location on the map. And this device doesn't need to be limited to drones. For example, if your dog has a tendency to wander away, you could attach it to your dogs collar to find him/her.
Worried to learn this uses bluetooth. Way back when I had a bluetooth device on my quad and it interfered with the radio signal. Greatly reduced the range in which I could fly.
Congratulations. You were first to say First (and who had not already previously won a shoutout). You win a shoutout in a future QC101 video. It's going to be fun trying to say your user name :-) Again, congratulations!
100% No!!! I live soooo far out from everyone that you don't even need a driver's license unless you go a lot of miles to town. Boy, do they ever want control!!!

Cool video but I have to loudly resist any efforts by the FCC to control and ultimately ground my drone devices.
I'll do it when they are free

@@Quadcopter101 Thanks and you can just say "Gabriel" than my username because I can't change it 😆
OK, Gabriel it is.
Does it need to be outside of your aircraft to function or will it work inside as long as it's facing up?
It should work inside if it's facing up, and there's no electrical or metal components in the way above it.
No to RID
So its just like ADS-B but for done?
Yes, very similar.
