    Van Jones says California isn't a failed state because (quote) "solutions are on the way" ....Well Van why is there the need for "solutions" if you're arguing everything's fine? Why is this even up for debate if everything's fine? Where are debates on other states?

      Blazingg! Nice observation....why a solution if it's fine. This is CA logic that literally makes my brain seize if I am around it too much. I live here and it is prevalent. They reason things with their emotions, which are fickle. Facts exist separate from feelings-most of them do not really understand this. They think if they have strong feelings, then their view is right here. It's pretty nuts. I can't take much more here. It's like I am trapped in a foreign country even though it's my country. I come last. Whites are the enemy.

      Lke Mccl that's an outrageous statement here a link of several appartments in safe zines that are under 1000 per month and they are all 1000 square foot your completely unrealistic
      www.apartments.com/los-angeles-ca/under-1000/
      rent isn't 4k for a thousand sq foot appartment. Also minimawage jobs in California are 11.00 per hour and the average hours hold income in California is on the low end 60k and the median 97k this is lower to middle class. New York has the highest rent in the United States the median rent for a studio is 3,700 per month. In any city that you have the opportunity to succeed of course your going to spend more for living or everyone would move there. The people who want to be successful and who take things serious aren't the ones complaining about rent.
      You could live in a place such as Oklahoma where you can pay 500 for an 1000 sq foot appartment but minimawage is 7.25 per hour, where the public education is completely out dated. There are several other states that are aweful as well. But California isn't a failed state.

Her position is basically that the government is supposed to make everyone's life wonderful and CA hasn't been living up to her expectations. Rental apts for 1200$ per month that would be 300$ in any other state. CA likes to pay more for less. I just do not understand this form of weak constitutional ethics.

    I will be blunt. Socialist policies are terminal in all cases - the only question is the timescale. The more severe socialism, the more immediate and apparent the decline, if you go light socialism, you can push out the decay over decades and change course more harmlessly (rarely happens in practice) while sporadic injections of smaller waves of absence of socialism in key areas can prop up the system for a while and convince everybody things are fine due to localized growth. Democrat provinces are turning toxic and its not due to anything that's happened recently, it's simply the waves hitting the shore on what was set in motion and the final extinguishing of those future tiny areas where socialism was turned down a notch to keep the system alive while they flee to take root in more hospitable environments. Detroit is dead. Chicago and California are dying. There's not much more to say I'm sorry.

      I'm a little confused are you arguing California needs more socialism? If so that's moronic! They've literally taxed the middle class virtually out of existence. This debate sucked it's just 6 liberals arguing about how to expand even more government funded programs & public sector jobs. I want to see this debate redone with conservatives/libertarians arguing for this notion. Maybe Ben Shapiro, Peter Schiff, & Art Laffer who all live or have lived in this shity leftist failed state! This debate is pathetic!

    • @olanlevan8470

      . Socialism is not the answer and more socialism is even worse. Unfortunately without understanding what policies and laws offer it,.. is even harder. And to know where its coming from is even harder. And add to that state run capitalism as in globalism, adds to the gauntlet of mis-understanding of how it works. The basic understanding of what Cali represents, is a re-patriation of globalism through socialists sustainable development protocols. In order to understand the tools and techniques, and endgame, you must understand the relationships of globalism as it relates to SB32, SB375, CalEPA, CARB, SOCAL, SCAGS etc.
      Under globalism wealth is transfered to the top 1%, via cheap foreign labor, and domestic credit laden consumption.
      The model that allows the elite to model NAFTA, TPP, here in the states is being accomplished through sustainable development UN mandates, under the global warming guise. The only thing better to the elite, than producing in Asia and Mexico at cheap wages, is producing at home at those same cheap wages.
      For this reason things like, stack n pack live-work co-ops, bike lanes, carbon taxes, smart meters, wildland projects, land reclamations, exhausted tax sources, restrictions on movement, fees, and smart shoes all tied into an information grid are being implemented to make way for the state run model of production that the globalists want to duplicate here in the states.
      Add to this the ports that are offered on the west coast and in Cali, .....well a picture starts to form.
      The question is not about how much socialism we can endure. The question is will we move forward under the Constitution and Bill of Rights, or will we transfer our allegiance to the UN?
      If the choice is for freedom to choose, individual liberties, rights and capitalism, then we must choose the constitution and bill of rights.
      If the choice is for socialism fuedalism, restricted freedoms, and "rights" of the collective, then you must continue devotion to a foreign entity, the UN.

    I wonder if Korea has hundreds of thousands of white Europeans. I have a feeling they don't. So how can you expect to have a community of CA residents in your white country if you allow a bunch of other groups to pour into the state? Groups that are a completely different race and culture. Who speak a different language and practice a different religion. How do you expect them to become Americans as if they were white people? Dumb idea. Just importing a bunch of people from a different county isn't going to magically change them into Americans who speak English and take on our culture and values.

    • @JohnJones-cg2xm
      @JohnJones-cg2xm 6 років тому

      Well the people who settled this country where white English speaking Europeans. Being white and English speaking would be a start. Capitalism is obviously the only system that has ever worked to produce wealth and keep people from starving, so I would think Americans would embrace it. The hard working white people who built this country were never asked to vote on the immigration act of 1965, so now whites are 60 vs 90% of the population. The rest is mostly third worlders. Just curious, have you ever had hunger pains but couldn't afford to buy food to eat? Ever lived in a bad neighborhood? Give up capitalism and make white the minority and this will be your future life. To rap up, being an American, means you are a hard working white person with a good job or profitable business. Someone who has long established family roots that go back hundreds of years. Someone who speaks proper English and respects the constitution and laws. Also this person should be ambitious and look to make as much money as possible.

    Schwarzenegger was the governor and the leader. A leader takes credit, but he or she must take the blame, too. Ronald Reagan, a conservative, deserved credit pulling the country out of a major recession in the 1980s. But Bush Jr., a conservative, must take the blame for crashing the US econ and the global econ, resulting in those bankruptcies. If we didn't have the Great Recession, there would be no bankruptcies b/c those cities would get tax revenues as normal.

    Its a good debate which gives a good insight about California. California state has many achievements and some drawbacks. In my opinion California cannot be called as a complete failed state. It has been successful in many areas for many years but the points highlighted such as how well the state performs in supporting the weak against strong in education, pension, etc, neglecting key industries, accessibility to global institutions in the state. All these issues do need attention and have to be taken care of. Otherwise these issues do have the potential to take the state towards failure. These issues should be taken care for the achievements of the state to sustain long.

    "those bankruptcies" are not the sole reason for the cities going bankrupt. It's the liberal policies that controlled them for so long. In each one of the cites, including Detroit, what's the #1 expenditure?? Public worker pay, pensions, and healthcare!! Democrats are whored out to the unions, so they give them everything they want! Grey Davis (D) signed off on the largest pay, pension, and HC increase for public workers in the history of CA back in '99 & everybody else followed right along.

    Environmental protections are probably one of the only things that is keeping Texas from sinking even lower than it already is. Considering how little regulation keeps them drilling every other possible place, it's not harmful to the subsidies.

    Not only Bush Jr. was at fault, his conservative friends were also running congress, approving the tax cut that cost the federal gov't over $1 trillion in lost revenues and, at the same time, went on a spending spree, including the war in Iraq. Conservatives believed Bush's economic policy would stimulate the econ and increase tax revenues for the gov't but it was failure, affect the econ to this day. BTW, CA had a Republican governor for 8 years. His name? Schwarzenegger.

    The cost of living in Texas is very high in the long run. With the poor public education system, the lack of health care for its citizens, and the difficulty to get anything besides a low paying wage job, you have the perfect recipe for systematic poverty. That's the problem with Texas - extreme short sighted policy making.

    "People vote with their feet." This makes the huge assumption that people are fully informed and always make the best possible decision for themselves (they don't). There was a point during the early 30s where there were more people leaving the USA for the Soviet Union for work. Turns out it was a terrible decision.
    Texas also carries lots of hidden costs of living that are passed onto the common man like high property taxes for cheap land, or having a shitty public education system.

    Texas has a $27 Billion budget hole which will cost education about $9 Billion in cuts. It is expected to cost about 100,000 teachers their jobs, class sizes in high school will increase to 35, and that is just for this year alone. Two years from now, they will be faced with yet another $10B in the hole because of the "structural deficit" created by Governor Perry in 2006.

Don't come here ILLEGALLY. Keep buying oil from the middle east?? We have PLENTY of oil here!! Our dependency of foreign oil is fading, we just need to go get more of it. 5-25, 15, we're going with rough numbers. Semantics aside, 5-25 billion is not heavily subsidized? At the state level? What would be "heavily subsidized" according to your standards? For a guy that respects Texas for only taking money when they "really need it" you seem to have a really high standard for what constitutes "heavily subsidized."

    This debate should be held today and if it was the answer would be absolutely clear that California is a failed state. 8 years later the results are in and it is inarguably a failed state. I find it amusing that the people arguing in favor of California point out how increased bureaucracy taxes and red tape are somehow great solutions to the problems there. That is exactly what is the problem. Of course bureaucrats will never see bureaucracy red tape and brutal tax burdens as problems. Now 8 years later millions of people have left the state and anybody that can find a Walmart job in other states and can afford to rent a U-Haul truck is getting the fuck out of there. 😅😁

    I have new neighbors. In KANSAS from California. Very nice people, to be fair I was shocked at that as we all know California is the troublemaker of the U.S. and maybe the world by setting the worst example of a state ever conceived. They are thrilled to be out of that Shithole, as they call it and among people that still believe in freedom. This video is five years old now and still very relevant only the sad truth is California is even worse than it was then. Now there are Millions of people Leaving California in search of a better life. California is a perfect example of Socialism and how it can't work.

    You're missing something. Cities in CA aren't the only ones filing for bankruptcy. Detroit and other cities also filed or are facing bankruptcies. Also, CA did have a Republican governor for 8 years by the name Arnold Schwarzenegar (2003-2011).
    Keep in mind that this great recession has affected the global economy in Europe and Asia. That's why other countries are still in a depression (Greece) or a recession. Clearly, it falls under Republican's leadership in Washington, DC.

  • @PapaMagnum
    @PapaMagnum 12 років тому

    "The credit crisis hardly affected them at all." LOL. I needed that. "They don't take federal money unless they need to." And who determines what's needed and what's not? The extremely powerful Republican party? Your assertion that they're the "most independent" in this country doesn't really hold water considering that they need to get bailed out of their HUGE debt crisis by the feds.
    I didn't say you were out of line, I said it was irrelevant. Which it is.

  • @veramann

    The Koch brothers and corporations do the same thing. They give millions of $ to Republicans. Thanks to the help of the US Supreme Court, corporations are considered people and are allowed to donate unlimited amount of $ to RepubliCONS. Keep in mind that when a budget is passed, it's based on a normal economic cycle, not based on a major recession. But when the Great Recession occurred, not only those cities became bankrupted, Spain and Greece needed a bailout as well.

    California is a state where people go to create their own destiny and to chase their dreams. If your relying on the state or governments assistance then yes the isn't going to work for you. But if you go to California because your going to make the state work for you then the state of Califoria will not fail you.

  • @veramann
    @veramann 11 років тому

    The $300 billions were accumulated over many years. It didn't happen suddenly in one year. The decisions were determined during a solid econ, not during a bad econ. However, the state is reforming it due to the Great Recession.
    The illegals know employers need them to work in the farm fields and for low paying jobs that Americans don't want.

It's not perfect but you have to recognise it's the reason for the existence of James Bond, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games and Batman, not to mention HBO.
