OK on engines. GE makes engines for 787 and B 777 X. International Engine Alliance is a JV between Pratt & Whitney and GE. They made the old Airbus 320 VR 2500 series engines and now make the PW 1000 G. CFM is an alliance between GE and Safran of france. They make the CFM 56 engine which powers A 320 as well as Boeing 737 right from 737-300 days in 1986. Rolls Royce manufactures engines for A 350 but they can also be powered by GE Trent. Sense and Sensibility. TATA Air India today has a pool of pilots that can fly a fleet of 50 A320 series Aircraft. A 320 Neo and A321 Neo and XLR. These are to be utilized for a 11 % per annum growing domestic and sub continental market. Cost of operations will be 2 % lower in fuel savings with both IEA PW 100 G and new CFM engines. Air India also has a team of trained pilots to operate 50 Boeing 737 Max low cost domestic and middle east operations from where money is to be made by tankering cheaper fuel. For International flights up to 8 hrs i e Delhi to London and Up to Australia the 787-9 and 10 will serve. Again trained crew available. For 777 200 and 300 trained crew available but the fleet is ageing. New 777s will save 8 % fuel. Here the aircraft will replace its own cost in 6 years. And fly for 6 more free. As the excess baggage of unproductive staff is eased out after their 12 month guarentee Air India will become a smooth well geared operation yeilding profits. Those to suffer will be Emirates and Qatar Airlines. Indians waste 4 hrs in Dubai or Qatar. Now we will save time and travel on our own world class airline.

Most critical technology of airplane design and production will be transferred to India as well, with the exception of aircraft engine technology. So, chances are India will start manufacturing its own airplanes in the next couple of years.

Modi and government should seriously consider making India a transit hub like Dubai and Istanbul. Why?
    1. Taj hotels is one of the most popular and high ranking luxury hotel chain in India and across the world! They can easily bring back the luxury and passenger satisfaction
    2. India has space! Tons of it! To build massive international airports! Glad government is focusing building world class airports. One such example is Jewar Airport
    3. We are in the right spot geographically. In between the ASEAN, Australia and the other half of the world - Africa and EU
    4. Delhi airport was actually well maintained before air travel boom in India! It was clean! Quiet. Good shops. Now, it is just another bus stand haha! We have capability to run busy airports!
    5. We have talent and labour to maintain these airports and aircrafts!
    6. We are the third largest refined exporter and we have started exporting aviation fuel recently too! Huge potential there for cheap fuel refill as well.

And how do you think they grow their industry in the first place? You can't force any other countries to build your industry for you. Take a look at how China modernized. Before the 90s they had almost no industry., most of what they did was accomplished in around 30 years. In the 90s they started by investing a lot on infrastructure, like roads, railways, and dams. This way they built a stable electricity grid, managed by the central and not regional government. They they made it easy for foreign businesses to do business in the country, they signaled reliability and stability by only changing policies after consulting business groups. They reformed their farming sector by making it capitalistic, without government control. They even made it trivial to seize land and drive out inhabitants so construction was easy (India shouldn't copy this part of course). Then they constructed greenfield cities for manufacturing. Then they laid off and eliminated big parts of the public sector. They also worked on lowering trade barriers and secured most favorable nation trading status with the US. This caused the textile industry first, then manufacturing to grow. Then only in the 2000s and 2010s did domestic Chinese firms start to compete, first by copying foreign tech exactly, only incrementally improving afterwards. Then by the 2010s and 2020s China has started to move up the value chain. You have to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run. This is how you modernize.
