Air India should make the price cheaper than the Gulf air carriers. Thats the key. I fly from Usa and Canada to India every year. What i as a consumer need is cost effective ticket with good leg space and good food service. Hope Tata is listening.
I echo that. I fly between SE Asia and Europe regularly and my preferred choice is a Middle Eastern Airline because there is only 1 flight change, in a Gulf state, whereas European airlines often require me to go through at least two flight changes. If there were to be a good connecting hub in India served by an Indian airline I would love to stopover each time for a few days in India rather than anywhere else.
And in way.. There is the issue... Cheap. Indians travelling by air are price sensitive. They (we) won't pay extra for better service or product. That makes service to India very difficult. The gulf carriers are subsidized by their governments. Business class product doesn't attract as much traffic. I wish air India well, but it will be tough

Tata is not looking to break gulf carriers. May be the moment has arrived for more partnerships with gulf carriers. Aviation is changing and the globe is changing too. Direct flights are here to stay and more Indians are travelling to Europe and Americas. Still the future of gulf carriers are robust as their service etc. are superior to Air India. Money power of populous countries like China and India, ASEAN etc. are going to accelerate through GDP growth. More planes are absolutely required for these countries and new Airports too.
Air India was once the best airliner from 1950s to late 1980s. Many successful airliners today went to Air India to learn fron their ways. I think Emirates went to Air India too. Air India was the best because Tata was involved. Government took control over Air India in 1951 or something but with great management of the officials it had the most quality among airliners in the world. Now Tata, it's original owners have taken back. Just wait and watch. Palace on air is coming. It's quality and service will be equal to or better than the Gulf Airliners. Plus majority of Gulf airliners profit is from Indians. If they loose Indians their profits will decrease drastically unless they find new markets. Indians are pretty patriotic. So if Air India becomes great again then they will ditch Gulf airlines in a second.
I think over the long term it will because indians form a large pool of the customers for gulf based airlines and they may want to support thier national carrier, with the additional advantage of less connections.
First and foremost, Air India needs to improve the standard of service and on-board product before they can compete with the ME3, who are known to have industry leading service quality as well as on-board products
@@loney403 I know but the history of substandard product/service is still stuck in everyone’s mouths. Plus if the main goal is to put a dent in the ME3’s bottom line, all major airlines in the region (PIA, Biman, Vistara, SriLankan and even Maldivian) will have to undergo similar expansions. I’m surprised Maldivian has yet to go through a similar expansion as the 90% of the Maldivian economy relies on luxury tourism.

You don’t know about India and TATA. It’s not GCC. Air India will definitely be a big competitor to the Gulf Carriers. I will be flying only by Air India.
I think Andrew nailed this issue. It is the convenience of a non-stop carrier vs the quality of service from the gulf carriers. I suspect if the Air India service improves in the next year or so, they will take a lot of volume from the gulf carriers.
Most people criticizing Air India have no clue. Previous Indian government gifted away huge number of seats to Emirates, Etihad, Qatar and Lufthansa, far in excess of bilateral flying rights. These airlines got big at our expense. Now this arrangement will be terminated and excess seats will be clawed back.
Air India has been rated world’s third least safe airline according to a report that monitors plane crashes around the world. India’s national carrier is ranked 58th among 60 listed airlines by Hamburg based Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC).
The Gulf based carriers will be the first victims of the India based carriers. *And Al Jazeera knows it* too, which is exactly why there is so much attention devoted to it here, when even Western media didn't even though Western companies are going to be the biggest beneficiaries of thus deal. The Indian carriers have access to a giant domestic market that is out of bounds for the Gulf carriers, giving them economies of scale that the Gulf carriers cannot match. A lot of the Gulf carriers benefit massively today from Indians transiting through the Gulf towards America and Europe, because of lack of direct connections to those destinations because of: lack of scale of traffic today. And scale is the exact thing that will change. Ergo, that traffic will go directly in future to North America/Europe on Indian carriers.

They should easily be able to, most travellers are Indians going to and from India these days, why do they need to hop through middle East for no reason at all ? They have just gotten lucky because the Indian government was lazy all these decades. India has to stop using the Middle East as a hop, unnecessarily making them richer only to be treated like second class travellers in return. Totally unnecessary. People can fly in and out of India directly and keep money spending within Indiaaand improve Indian airlines.
In order for Air India to succeed, it might need to fire most if its cabin crew and management people who had been tainted for well too long working under the previous management and hire fresh new candidates and bring back those experienced Indian who are working for the Gulf carriers. Air India can easily dominate air travel as long as it is not affected by Government interference and corruption.
Tata will revive its glorious history in aviation industry. In the past it ruled the industry. Then the govt overtook it and destroyed it. Again its back to the Tata and ready to rock!!
Air India should make the price cheaper than the Gulf air carriers. Thats the key. I fly from Usa and Canada to India every year. What i as a consumer need is cost effective ticket with good leg space and good food service. Hope Tata is listening.
They will certainly do what you've mentioned , it's gonna be difficult for gulf airlines to cope with that!

Oh also flights attendants whose arms pit smell would send you to ER
Did you get atta today?
First and foremost, Air India needs to improve the standard of service and on-board product before they can compete with the ME3, who are known to have industry leading service quality as well as on-board products
Air India has recently changed hands from Indian Government to TATAs. Things will change slowly...

They have just gotten lucky because the Indian government was lazy all these decades.
