I have a jade bangle that has a crack and was once repaired with gold. The gold band needs to be replaced, but no jeweler here in AR knows how to do it. They are afraid that applying the gold would break the jade. What would you suggest
Hi Naomi! I see, we recently just did something like that for a customer! One of our customers purchased a really nice bangle, around 4000 dollars but it had a spot that is a little different color and she wanted to over the spot. So we made a a little piece of gold with design to go on the bangle! The new gold piece would have to be made specifically for the bangle! It's actually a pretty simple process! Jade does not like heat so we don't recommend using fire to solder the piece on, but it can be soldered on using a laser welder! But I understand the jewelers not wanting to perform the work because if they don't have too much experience with jade. So my best advise to you is to find a jeweler that have had experience working on jade!
A video about the differences between Jade, Jadeite and Nephrite would be great, cause the other stones are also sold as Jade.
