    Thank you for watching our video! What questions do you have for the folks at Mason-Kay Jade?

      Has anyone lied about having them as a supplier?

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  Рік тому +1

      @@hahaja Hi there! I do believe there has been an instance of falsified jade id reports claiming to be Mason-Kay certified. To prevent getting swindled by this type of scam, you can always call the Mason-Kay office to confirm that they issued the report by providing the report number. This goes for any certifying gem lab as well, including GIA. Additionally, many Mason-Kay Jade bead necklaces (though not all) feature an “MK” signature clasp which can be an indication that Mason-Kay supplied the piece. When in doubt, you can always call the home office in Colorado!

      Can deeply flawed and opaque but genuine/natural jadeite bangles still sell for less than $100?

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  Рік тому

      @@melodine_ Yes! I actually bought a low-quality internally-fractured jade bangle on Amazon for $100 and had it tested. It turned out to be natural! We actually explain this in more detail in our Jade Bangle Testing video 😊 Hope that helps!

      @@JewelsoftheTradeThank you for clarifying that for me! I’ve bought 3 bangles in total from 2 sellers who sell flawed and low quality but “natural” jade. They both generally have a good reputation and are knowledgeable in the jade business, but the low price points threw me in a bit of a loop. But since jade isn’t always expensive, maybe it’s a good indicator that they could be real?

    Thank you for this extremely helpful and informative video. I do have several jadeite pendants I got years ago-I am sure they are A jadeite. Also, I knowingly bought disclosed nephrite bracelets & a type B+C jadeite multi-colored segment bracelet that I am ok with. I also have a chrysophrase tennis bracelet that I knew what it was when I bought it, & paid a very reasonable price for it. I love that "mint green" jade color, which is the reason I bought it. Thank you again.

    11:40. Yes! I recently bought a supposedly natural Grade A jadeite bangle on Etsy for $3K. It was a nice light apple green and quite translucent. Beautiful looking. But when I got it, I tried the “ping test”, as I always do with my real jadeite bangles. It made a rather dull clinking sound! I got very suspicious. Also, the entire bangle was extremely smooth, with no evidence of tiny pits or crystal lines. It looked too perfect. It had good weight to it, but for some reason it didn’t feel like real jadeite. The seller on Etsy kept reassuring me it was natural and totally untreated, but I had my doubts. It came with one of those Chinese card certificates too. Some of these certificates are legitimate, but some aren’t. For peace of mind, I returned the bangle and fortunately was able to get my money back.

      I have seen those certificates on Etsy (not in person). They are in Chinese & I would not be able to understand it if I got it. Do you happen to know if some of the Burmese jadeite green and translucent small stones in rings sold on Etsy are ever truly type A, as advertised? Thank you very much for any advice you could give me!!

    I’m happy with the way Jeff termed this, as I’ve seen nephrite being misrepresented as jadeite. Nothing can be more “real” jade than nephrite in a historical sense and since it is seldom treated, unlike jadeite, it should stand in a class of its own. I loathe the sad fact that we use the same term in English for these two and would prefer “jade” to be a girl’s name only from now on. I’ve met Kris and Jeff and worked with and bought from them for years and appreciate this video.

    Nice video, thanks! But what am I looking for with the UV lamp? I don't understand what's the tell-tale at 4:58 and 5:25?

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  10 місяців тому +1

      Great question! The UV test isn’t reliable. Many believe that if jade fluoresces it’s treated, and if it doesn’t it’s natural - this is not true. Some treated jade does not fluoresce, and some natural jade will fluoresce slightly. However, if the jade fluoresces vividly - that is a strong indicator that the jadeite jade has been dyed. As always, I recommend leaning on the expertise of a professional gemologist for jade testing :)

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  10 місяців тому +1

      Additionally, if nephrite jade is vividly fluorescent, it has probably been coated but not necessarily dyed. Green nephrite jade is rarely dyed.

    It should be a crime to treat or falsify this beautiful specimen collection of stone minerals : Jade 😢. May the perpetrators never get away with pushing these fakes into the market ❤ This was highly recommended and useful, thank you 😊

    so why do we even give a shit about Jade??? it just a stone yall, its like diamonds--we've given them their insanely high value, with little to no return on investment. it's a stone, pay for beautiful artistry, not a stone. my opinion anyhow.
