I work in producing high end jewellery and have a reasonable knowledge of Jadeite and the "speckling" you talk of is not only found in Jadietie i have seen it in Nephrite (not often) and it is quite common in minerals aften mistaken for Jade such as Aventurine, Serpentine. So the only real way to be certain you have good quality Jadeite is to have it properly tested by a reputable laboratory.
I know this is 2 years ago. But I am holding a piece of black nephrite that I recently polished and have seen it in other pieces. The crystals/glitter you talk about.

Roughly 130lbs total in various sizes..some have wierd gem like growth on them and some seem to be mottled with rich olivine i suspect.He made jewelry so sorting it has been fun but hard ..this video gave me a better insight on what to look for...thanks again..I hope to find a fair buyer for this collection.
Me too! I will be in Niigata this weekend for Mineral Marche, but can't get down to Itoigawa. If you go it's best to go after a typhoon because that will churn up the rocks on the beach. Also, I have found that South from Omi to Oyashirazu has the best material. I have been hunting Omi river for Benitoite too. Good luck and if I can be of help let me know.

Jadeite is fairly difficult to identify unless you are an experienced rockhound. Some key features are weight, hardness, color & texture(smooth unless fractured). Good luck!
