What makes this so impressive is this is live in 1970. There is no high tech equipment altering Ian's voice. He just can sing that amazing, not to mention the whole sound of the band.
Jon Lord: Classically trained keyboard player and composer: Durham Concerto,. Boom of the Tingling Strings [piano Concerto] Concerto for group and Orchestra etc.
Jon Lord is the organ player, sadly passed away too quickly. Ritchie blackmore was the guitarist and considered one of the best amongst his peers and fans alike. Ian Gillan the vocalist is amazing, possibly overlooked and underrated with a lot of classic rock fans. But for me he's definitely one of my favourite vocalists
Deep Purple is the greatest collection of talent in rock. The name Deep Purple comes from the old song Deep Purple, which was Ritchie Blackmore's grandmother's favorite song.
… Rock music is explained like this: There is a lead guitar, an organ, a bass, a singer, a drummer... and there is DEEP PURPLE!! … There is nothing more to say!! 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank You
Beautiful reaction, Deep Purple were at the top of the tree along with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath, they all had the talent and the creativity to make all the best sounds, I think that we had the best music in the 60's and 70's, it was a great time to be around...
Chances were back then that somebody would be blasting Deep Purple’s “Highway Star,” on their 8 track while driving near you on the road, whenever you were driving somewhere. Check that one out.
Just happened upon your channel..loved your reaction..deep purple are among the best.. some more gems by them are highway star - space Truckin - fireball and flight of the rat..
I love you for watching this one. They were my first concert I went to. I couldn't hear for 2 days afterwards. Have to tell you story. I was in Navy 1990 and was in Singapore went scuba diving during the day then went to see them play live. Best day of my life. Space Truckin is another great song.
I saw them in Concert in San Francisco in 1971, they were so loud my ears ached for a week! But it was worth it. I googled loudest band and got this: 1972. Deep Purple was recognised by The Guinness Book of World Records as the "globe's loudest band" for a concert at the London Rainbow Theatre, during which the sound reached 117 dB and three members of the audience fell unconscious.
Classic rock doesn't get much better than this!. Thanks for reviewing this masterpiece. Fire ball and speed king are also great tracks amongst others. Rip John lord.
This is one of my all time favorite rock songs, and in my opinion one of the most epic performances in the history of rock music. Just like millions of others, I'm also amazed at their individual talents, and how well they play together. The instrumentation and vocals fit together like a hand in a well fitting glove. No gimmicks, no auto tune, just pure greatness. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin once said of Richie Blackmore, "when it comes to improvisation in a live arena, I couldn't touch that guy." Since I started listening to your channel, I was hoping you would one day react to this song. Today I got my wish, and I your enjoyed reaction a lot. I like your 1 to 100 analogy when talking about the song, and the way you described the talent of each member of the band. If you react to more Deep Purple, I would recommend starting with Smoke On The Water because it has one of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock history.
Nice reaction, thanks! Deep Purple - in this formation, mark II - has Ian Gillan on vocals, and for me he is the voice of DP. Ritchie Blackmore is a monster playing guitar, Ian Paice killing drums, Jon Lord showing everything on hammond organ and the precision of Roger Glover on bass... so, all then are brilliant. It is a band that deserves more reactions, since - as Led Zeppelin - they have so different kind of songs and there is a big catalogue to explore. A good start would be listen to songs from the album Made in Japan or Deep Purple in Rock. Songs as Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Lazy, Perfect Strangers, and so go on.. . will make you "travel", i'm sure! .
Hello From Florida 🇺🇲🌅🌞☀️ This music Was Featured in the Movie Twister 🌀. It is An Epic Song indeed !!! As always the like button 🔘 has been Illuminated 😁👍👍😎🤗
Ian Gillan the singer was the voice of Jesus on the album for the Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar. Deep Purple has gone through several lineups from the 1960s right through today. This is the most successful lineup and known as the MK II lineup. Today, only the drummer remains as an original member and today's lineup does include the singer and the bass player who were not original members but were members of the MK II lineup. The guitarist has moved on and now plays Renaissance style rock music with his wife as the vocalist in the band Blackmore's Night (Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night). I recommend their bigges hit Smoke on the Water next and from their probably Highway Star, Hush or Perfect Strangers (a 1980s song when this lineup reunited).

Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin Were called the unholy trio of rock back in the late 60's to early 70's. The reason for this is they introduced the genre of hard rock which later became Heavy Metal. As for this song it is one of my favourites of theirs.
Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist here, did go on to create the group Rainbow, so you should have a listen to them! Unlike most of the old hard-core fans of Ritchie Blackmore's hard-rock groups, I really love his new career with Blackmore's Night! That's with his wife Candice Night, maybe because I just love this old-style music, and I can understand why he wants to go in this direction now!
Deep Purple is considered 1 of the 3 Godfathers of rock...along with Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. All 3 are considered to have influenced and inspired so many other bands. I think Led Zepplin should be considered one of the "godfathers" as well though! You are hitting all the greats... love it!
Not Pink Floyd, although they are phenomenal. Deep Purple (together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath) have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies".
Hi there! Deep Purple Machine Head was the very first rock album that I bought as a young teen, so they hold a special place in my memories. That being said, how about a reaction to the man that Deep Purple wanted to bring in to replace Ritchie Blackmore when he departed the group, the legendary Rory Gallagher? Rory was an incredible blues/rock multi-instrumentalist best known for his searing guitar work. Try checking out "Tattoo'd Lady" live at Rockpalast (1977) for an introduction to his amazing skills. You won't regret going down this rabbit hole! Thanks.
One thing to keep in mind, just following that early organ moment before two minutes have passed: Unlike the majority of today's "musicians", these guys actually ARE musicians! The average pop-star/hiphopper will have problems even knowing who Elvis Presley or the Beatles were, much less Mozart and Beethoven! So I'm very happy that you are looking at any of these musicians who were mostly active even before I was born (I'm 56 by now...).
Deep purple at their peak Prime time Best hard rock band ever Ian gillan - vocals Ritchie blackmore - lead guitar Ian paice - Drums John Lord - keyboard Roger glover - bass Special mention for Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin
Great reaction to Deep Purple, I grew up in the 70s and bought their albums and many other 70s groups albums on Vinyl at the time. Other good Deep Purple songs are, "Smoke On The Water" and "Highway Star" or "Lazy", please make a reaction to those songs as well. Good, that you learn to play the keyboard, I play the keyboard too. I use my Keyboard which is a MIDI Controller to compose all my music to my PC, which is my music studio. 🙂 Good luck playing Keyboard. Good job keep it up.❤
Deep Purple, for some odd reason is fairly forgotten of the big 3 : Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. After all, they were at some point in time the best selling hard rock band and are a massive inspiration for generations of rock & metal bands and musicians
my generation, my music, our parents thought we were crazy and screamed when we played these songs, our music was exceptional and these bands not only had messages to convey but their music and the musicians were at a level of perfection that few bands after them have matched, an era blessed by the gods, we are pleased that your generation appreciates our musical era 60s/70s, an italo-french fan
What could the band be possibly thinking while the audience sits there like deer in the headlights. How they (the band) managed to give a live concert performance is testament to their talent. Stellar.
It was a TV studio audience instructed to sit there like that so they wouldn’t interfere with the TV cameras. TV cameras back then were these enormous things that required a crew of two three for each one to manage the running the camera, moving the rig around, and managing the thick cables the cameras required. Then there were the people managing the ungainly studio Mike rigs for the filming.
@@stevious7278 I know. It looks really weird. It’s been commented on many times in this video in the past. I recall seeing the same thing back in the day watching the Austin City Limits show. I learned this from a previous answer from someone who worked as a camera man at one of the networks back in the day who replied to the same question.
The lead singer, Ian Gillan was the first star in the musical "Jesus Christ, Super Star" !! He told his mates after the "Live in Japan 1972" album that he had to stop singing this song in concert, because it was damaging his voice. He still does perform this song , but it's a more subdued version. Love Deep Purple !!
Hi Ola, the purple top was a nice touch. Check out "Smoke on the Water" by these guys. The lead singer is Ian Gillan. He was the voice of Jesus on the album "Jesus Christ Superstar". He was offered the role for the stage play, but turned it down due to his commitment to Deep Purple.
I love e his voice too. Lov e Deep Purple since I was a teen. My husband saw them many times in a nd around Germany during Vietnam war era. He was lucky and was sent to Europe instead of those godforbidden jungles. Around1970 I believe. Drafted.
Their album Machine Head is Iconic in rock music history. You can pretty much react to anything on it. I would suggest Highway Star. It's cool that you play keys. I do too, although I'm a multi-instrumentalist and a singer and a songwriter and a composer. But Jon Lord on Hammond organ for Deep Purple is such a treat. Such a treat. Their song Lazy from the Machine Head album features him a lot, but he's always a core part of the sound.
Great reaction !! I love it , so honest . Congratulations !! Check Highway Star from the album Made in Japan ( best Rock album recorded live ) Pure Rock 'n Roll Keep on rocking Lady❤ Greetings from Barcelona
Jesus Crist Superstar, Have I to say more. Ian Gillan was recording Getshemane, just 2 months after this performance. First ever singer to sang Jesus part for record releasing of that rockmusical
You should react to Highway Star by Deep Purple. They were way ahead of their time. Every musician was so talented. They were a super group. With Ian Gillan as their vocalist and Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar, no one could match them.
Check out "Smoke on the Water" live in Japan, or "Highway Star." They have plenty of other great songs, but overall, they weren't a band focused on singles.
Deep Purple, sung by Nino Tempo and April Stevens, was the guitarist Richie Blackmore’s grandmas favourite song. And it's a great name to a band. Altough they never played as Ritchie’s grandma wanted :-)
Ian Paice is my favorite member. From the start to the present day, the only original player to have performed on every track and in every live performance. A double Hall of Famer. Sadly, Ian Gillan should not be performing anymore (and should've stepped back after Perfect Strangers), but in his heyday, he was glorious. Love me some Roger Glover and he still plays just as brilliantly now as in the old days.
Yes indeed, what a performance! Deep Purple stands right next to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as the bands that had the most influence on all hard rock and heavy metal that came after. For more Live Deep Purple, do the great tune You Fool No One from their epic performance at the 1974 California Jam. That entire concert is worth a listen. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
This song and the album In Rock are masterpieces. Deep Purple has a lengthy library to delve into. Definitely check out the video of Mandrake Root live in London 1970. It's killer. Other songs off In Rock to check out are Speed King, Black Knight and Hard Lovin Man. Also, people will be requesting Burn, Smoke On The Water, Lazy, Woman From Tokyo, Strange Kind of Woman, Perfect Strangers, etc. Thanks for a great reaction.
Great observation on how the beginning made u pay attention. Someone once said, "If you want to be listened to, speak softly and slowly." Same principle here, I guess! The singer's hair was SO beautiful it got him the part of Jesus! Actually, it was his amazing voice. He was on the album/soundtrack for a movie called "Jesus Christ, Superstar." (1972, A dif. guy played Jesus) It's QUITE good, and the (rock) music is incredible! Just purely on sheer musical talent, this band was right up there with Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Great reaction!
Actually Ian Gillan’s was on the original 1970 Jesus Christ superstar album only..he was asked to play the part of Jesus in the 1973 movie, but he turned it down because of his commitment to deep purple.. the role went to Ted Neely for the movie..
@@ponytrekker8996 Oh that's right he DID turn it down, i had thought it was some sort of thing where the director wanted a "professional" actor or some such. I know Andrew Lloyd Webber heard this song and said "I've found my Jesus!" LOL.
@@joescott8877 yes, it is easy to be mistaken. It was a very long time ago by the way, Ted Neely went on to perform songs from the album until I think today, especially Gethsemane. he made a career out of it.
The legendary Purple guitarist, Richie Blackmore, later went on to form another iconic metal band called Blackmore's Rainbow and now is part of Blackmore's Night along with his wife Candice Knight
Keep in mind that they are still active today albeit with a different guitarist and keyboardist than the ones you see here and still continue to release good albums, especially Infinite, 2017.
You are really looking at some of the most influential bands ever existed. The Doors, Creedense Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Nazareth, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, T Rex and Status Quo - those bands were inventing the new ways that laid the ground to metal and heavy rock. I would recommend a ballad that is not mentioned yet - but it's one of Deep Purple's most iconic songs 'Soldier of Fortune' - it's a phenomenal piece of music! Nowadays only Nightwish can tell stories like these old bands.
There bass player is amazing also

1.8.24. “Smoke on the Water”©️…. up next from Deep Purple⚠️ and while you’re at it….”Woman from Tokyo”©️🎸
And then "Highway Star"!

"Deep Purple" Rockgötter ! 👍👍👍
